    AASL Standards

    4.1.1 Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth.

    4.1.3 Respond to literature and creative expressions of ideas in various formatsand genres.

    4.2.4 Show an appreciation for literature by electing to read for pleasure andexpressing an interest in various literary genres.

    Target Audience: The target audience of the video is the 4 th and 5th grades atWalker Middle School in Long County, Georgia. These grade levels are

    comprised of 421 students. Out of these students 230 are male, and 191arefemale. The ethnicities of these students are as follows: 5 identified as

    Asian/Pacific Islands, 111 as black (non-Hispanic), 61 as Hispanic, 2 asAmerican Indian/Alaskan Native, 35 as multiracial, and 207 students as white(non-Hispanic).

    Educational Level: The educational levels of these students represent a broadrange of abilities. Fifty-seven students out of these grade levels are identified ashaving higher-ability levels and exceeded all areas of the prior years CRCT.These students consistently perform above average. In addition, 42 studentsfailed the CRCT in the areas of math, ELA, and/or reading. Forty-eight students

    receive special education services.

    Specific Entry Skills: Students will require good listening skills as they enjoy thevideo and analyze whether they would be interested in specific booksrecommended in the video. The students will need to understand genresmentioned in the video.

    Learning Styles:At the beginning of the year, the students participated in theCAPSULE Learning Styles Inventory. According to this learning stylesassessment, 212 are primarily visual learners, 117 are kinesthetic learners, and48 are auditory learners. Several students scored equally as having strengths in

    more than one area. Thirty-one students are equally visual and kinestheticlearners. Seven are equally kinesthetic and auditory learners, and six is equally avisual learner and auditory learner.
