This is the Galician Baixo Miño region, which lies along the low course of the Miño River.

TUITUIThe city of Tui, at the top of a rocky hill, was declared the World’s Heritage in 1967. It is, as a whole, a historical monument crowned by a cathedral church with a peculiar appearance of a fortress. All this monumental environment is surrounded by the green landscape in the low course of the Miño river and the Portuguese town-in-a-fortress of Valença do Minho, called Old Tui in ancient times.

The city is said to have been founded by Diomedess, an Aechean hero in the Trojan War who founded Tyde in honor of his father Tydeo. Documents claim that it was included in the Antonine Itinerary (the Roman Empire map of roads), it was an Epicospal See in the Roman period; it was the capital of the Galician subkingdom under Wittiza; and in the Middle Ages, scene of dynastic fights and the city of Urraca of Castile, Queen of Portugal, depicted on the statues on the cathedral portico.

The cathedralThis cathedral is very peculiar because it looks like a fortress with its towers and battlements. It was a witness of plundering by the Andalusians, the Vikings and the Normands.

Trekkers and nature fans should enjoy a whole day here. You can have amazing views of the Miñor and Louriña valleys.

O RosalO RosalO Rosal is a municipality on the South West of the Galician province of Pontevedra. In the last population census, in 2009, there were 6.570 inhabitants, called rosaleiros.

The economy is based on farming (crops and pastures) and forests. There is also some coastal fishing.

Its well-known wines belong to the Rías Baixas region, a reputated certificate of origin.

OiaOia (sometimes wrongly spelt in Spanish Oya) is a municipality on the South sea coast of Pontevedra.

It is a part of the Baixo Miño region. Its population is 3038 (2005).

It is bounded by Baiona to the North, by Tomiño to the East and by O Rosal to the South.

Muíños do FolónMuíños do Folón

O Folón and O Picón are two rivers whose courses come together in O Rosal. Their 60 traditional mills are famous and really amazing. They were declared Galician Heritage and are mentioned in documents in the 17th century.

They are spread downhill along both rivers on a hill called Monte Campo do Couto, between Martin and Fornelos. From the top you can see the whole valley of O Rosal, the estuary of the Miño River and the Tegra Hill where the pre-Roman fort village is.

Rapa das Bestas –mane cropping- is the name of a Galician ancient tradition in many places throughout spring and summer. The wild horses which live in the woods are gathered and their manes are cut. The colts are branded by their owners. It is a great celebration for all the people.

A GUARDA: HISTORY AND ARTISTIC HERITAGE

The pre-Roman village on top of the hill, Santa Tegra, is one of many in the Iberian NW. Its round shaped houses surrounded by walls, were inhabitated by up to 3000-5000 people (c. II-I BC).
