Director's MessageNarsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Hyderabad
the newest member of the brand NMIMS University, aspires to
imbibe these human values across its various stakeholders
through creation and spreading of knowledge in the field of
management.
Established in 2010, it is located in the most happening city of
Hyderabad. The city which is known as the Education hub and
the second largest city of IT exports of India, provides us a
unique opportunity to understand the technical nuances of the
organizations.
Entering its fifth year, the Institute remains deeply rooted to its
commitment on building a legacy of impacting quality of life in
this region.
As Innovation is essential to achieve progress in the modern
world, we enjoy the flexibility to quickly respond to these rapidly
changing global socio-economic conditions and can efficiently
adapt the best practices of leading business schools, as we go
beyond the regular academic curricula with emphasis on
practice.
NMAT by GMAC enables Bschools to recruit top talent to the
comfort that the test measures the skills needed to succeed in
their programs. It gives the prospective students the confidence
and edge to perform their best.
After successful International Student Exchange programs and
conducting National Research conclaves, we are in verge of
achieving AMBA accreditation in the current year.
Having said that, NMIMS Hyderabad is immensely grateful to
corporates for the faith reposed in us throughout the years,
looking forward building long term sustained relationship with
you all. Warmly welcome you for the placement process which
is scheduled to start from September 2016.

NMIMS University offers the Post Graduate Diploma in Management
(PGDM) Programme, approved by AICTE, Govt. of India, one of the
most recognised programmes. PGDM is a two-year full-time
programme, spread over six trimesters. The most notable feature is its
visionary objectives to provide the students with an all-round broad
perspective in all streams of management education.
The programme is to train the students to become decision makers
along with exercising social sensitivity, keeping in mind a broad
strategic vision and an ability to assume a higher corporate
responsibility. All this is enhanced through a superior degree of skill in
interpersonal relationships. A great deal of emphasis is also placed on
experiential learning. The students are required to work on a number
of corporate and academic research projects during their two years
on campus, which also includes eight weeks of Summer Internship.
Post Graduate Diplomain Management
The PGDM programme has been designed with the following
objectives:
• Critical Analytical Thinking – An ability to construct and
recognise solid logical arguments, their underlying assumptions
and limitations.
• Personal Leadership – A deep self-awareness of their own
strengths, weaknesses, and even identity, coupled with an
understanding of diverse influence styles and the best way to
use them.
• Industry Ready and Result Oriented – A vision to transform the
students into responsible managers.
• Community – A platform to work and learn most effectively
through teamwork with the help of a supportive community.
The most notable features of the programme are its broad general
management base and the flexibility offered to students in selection
of electives from five functional areas of management. A student can
deepen knowledge and skills in any two areas of functional
specialisation along with a strong general management foundation.
Many integrative courses are also included in the curriculum. Besides
the regular curriculum students have opportunities to opt from about
six value added courses and foreign language courses. Students
choose from among the above options suiting one’s individual
preferences.

Value-added Workshops
Workshops are aimed to help the students add value to
their academic growth through practical methods. One of
the highlights is the emphasis placed on conducting
workshops specifically in the fields of Analytics and Project
Management. Experts from the industry are invited to
conduct these workshops to help the students better
understand the academic concepts from the viewpoint of
the industry, thereby enhancing the overall understanding
of the subject.
Workshop Themes
• Business Analytics and Simulation
• Project Management
• Financial Analytics
• Financial Modelling using SAS
• Econometrics
• News Analytics
• Social Media Implication
• Indian Values - Challenges in Management
• Transformational Leadership
Certifications
• Spanish language
• Six Sigma Green Belt
The emphasis on value-added workshops and certification
courses is aimed at preparing the students to cater to the
growing needs of the industry, along with gaining
knowledge beyond the curriculum.
Industry aligned pedagogy
To further augment the principle of industry-aligned
growth, emphasis is laid on guest lectures from industry
experts as part of the course curriculum. This ensures a
continuous industry interaction process that aims to
provide students with an insight into current global trends
and future business opportunities.
Academic and Corporate Projects
An integral part of the curriculum is the Term Projects which
the student prepares for each subject during the trimester,
in addition to the corporate or live projects which stresses
the insightful research and analytical thinking.
Business Simulation and Case Study
The practice of putting students in the shoes of managers
and applying theoretical skills to real-life unstructured
problems has proved to be a successful approach to
learning over the years. NMIMS exposes the students to
case studies, covering an array of subjects, which are
discussed in the class by the faculty and also among the
student fraternity to enhance learning.
Industry Analysis
Industry analysis is the analysis of a specific branch of
manufacturing, service, or trade. Understanding the
industry in which a company operates provides an essential
framework for the analysis of the individual company.
Industry analysis is useful in a number of investment
applications that make use of fundamental analysis. Its uses
include the following:
• Understanding a company's business and business
environment- Industry analysis is often a critical early
step in stock selection and valuation because it
provides insights into the issuer's growth
opportunities, competitive dynamics, and business
risks. For a credit analyst, industry analysis provides
insights into the appropriateness of a company's use of
debt financing and into its ability to meet its promised
payments during economic contractions.
• Identifying active equity investment opportunities-
Investors taking a top-down investing approach use
industry analysis to identify industries with positive,
neutral, or negative outlooks for profitability and
growth. Generally, investors will then overweight,
market weight, or underweight those industries (as
appropriate to their outlooks) relative to the investor's
benchmark if the investor judges that the industry's
perceived prospects are not fully incorporated in
market prices. Apart from security selection, some
investors attempt to outperform their benchmarks by
industry or sector rotation—that is, timing
investments in industries in relation to an analysis of
industry fundamentals and/or business-cycle
conditions.
• Portfolio performance attribution- Performance
attribution, which addresses the sources of a
portfolio's returns, usually in relation to the portfolio's
benchmark, includes industry or sector selection.
Industry classification schemes play a role in such
performance attribution.

ACADEMIC COMMITTEEAcademia, the Academic Committee of NMIMS Hyderabad
works all year round to provide opportunities for the
wholesome development of an MBA student's personality.
It works towards all non-placement related industry
activities.
The committee connects NMIMS Hyderabad to the
Corporate World by bringing in various business magnates,
leaders and scholars to the campus to interact with the
students. Academia organizes guest lectures and conclaves
across various business verticals throughout the year to
maximize industry exposure and also forge a long term
relationship between the institution and the corporate
world.
Last year, the committee organized the first edition of
'Conventus', a stage where business leaders share their
insights on topics that are pertinent to today's times by
bringing together functional heads of different
organizations, students of management as well as the
corporate community to create a symposium of minds
deliberating and discussing a multitude of management
Student Committees and Clubsissues. The committee also organizes events across
business domains such as finance, marketing, HR, etc.
“Finance Week”, which was elegantly organized by the
Academic Committee had industry experts come and
address the students on a plethora of subjects pertaining to
Banking, Financial Services and Insurance. Through such
initiatives, NMIMS Hyderabad has witnessed the presence
of eminent business personalities from companies like Yes
Bank, KPMG, S&P Capital IQ, ADP, Google, D E Shaw,
Deloitte, Mars India, GE, ITC, Dr Reddy's and many more.

hone the skills of budding managers.
NEXUSNexus, the cultural committee at NMIMS Hyderabad has

The various facets of the Indian culture and traditions have
been brought forth by Nexus through its association with
SPICMACAY, be it any form of classical music, dance or
colorful theatrical performances. Realizing the utter
importance of the rich Indian tradition of festivals has also
been a core purpose of this committee. The grand
celebration of events of national import such as the
Independence Day or the musical DJ nights during the
annual management fest, Nirvahana that made all dance
away till the last fiber of their being- all such events, have
brought out the fact how recreation and joyful celebration
bind communities and thus how Nexus has been an asset to
the institution.
Nexus was proved worthy too when it achieved the second
best committee award for the academic year 2013-14. All
said, Nexus aims to conduct more cultural events in the
coming years and keep its flag flying high.

tomorrow with tools and ideals that disrupt everything that
we have today, we being a small part, which is going to drive
and fuel this change, present a pedestal themed “RESTART”.
Based on the theme “RESTART”, TEDx NMIMSH yderabad

community, Ideas which have the potential to RESTART and
build life on a positive note.

discoveries that have happened which are worth spreading,
discoveries that can give life a new meaning, possibly
change directions.

NirvahanaNMIMS Hyderabad organized the second edition of its Annual
Management Fest- Nirvahana 2016 which went on from 5th
February to 7th February, 2016. Mr. Jaywanth Naidu and Mr. Viiveck
Verma, who were invited as the Chief Guest, graced the inaugural
ceremony with their presence.
Nirvahana through its theme of identifying potential aces in the
field of marketing, finance, operations and human resources aimed
to explore the dire need and ways to continually raise the bar by the
incumbents through the plethora of competitive events, leadership
lectures and panel discussions. The mega event saw brilliant minds
from country's top business schools and corporate houses vying for
the top slot in diverse events. The college was buzzing with activity
as students competed in events that tested their technical and
marketing skills.
A total of 22 events were held over a span of 3 days, 16 being on
campus. Apart from the competitions, Nirvahana '16 was filled with
cultural events. The first night of the fest was filled by laughter as
stand-up comedian Kenny Sebastian, who is lovingly called 'the
middle class Indian's comedian', had everyone rolling on the floor
laughing with his brand of brat jokes at Fly High pub. The second
night witnessed Battle of Bands where 6 rock bands from across the
nation competed for the top spot at the Houz of Blues. On the third
night we had DJ Joshi at Fly High.
