The Pittsburgh Riverhounds (1-2-2) battled their way to a 1-1 draw against the Charlotte Independence (0-1-2) at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University. All the match’s scoring came within the first six minutes of play, with Kay Banjo registering a tally for the Hounds in the 2nd minute and Charlotte’s Jorge Herrera equalizing off a penalty kick in the 6th minute. Saturday’s match will be the third road game for Pittsburgh in two weeks, with the club defeating Charleston (2-1) and drawing with Charlotte (1-1) in the first two. Richmond has started the season considerably slow, dropping three of its first four, including two straight at home, and scoring only one goal so far. Despite the low scoring output, the Kickers defense has been stingy, allowing only three goals. Much like trips to Charleston and Charlotte, the Hounds will look to exorcise road demons against the Kickers this weekend. The Hounds were swept in the head-to-head series last season, including a 2-0 defeat on the road that featured two own goals, and haven’t defeated Richmond away since May 23, 2015 - a 2-1 victory. The Hounds have been stout defensively since allowing three goals in the season opener, ceding one goal in three of their last four played - all starts by goalkeeper Trey Mitchell. Additionally, the club has been outshot only once this season - down a man against FC Cincinnati on April 1. Continuing to excel since recording his first career pro start against Saint Louis on April 12, forward Kay Banjo currently holds a point streak of three games and has goals in two- straight. The UMBC product’s offensive contribution has been huge as his partner up top, Corey Hertzog, has been held scoreless the past two matches after scoring three times in the first three matches to start 2017. Center back next to Jamal Jack has been a revolving door for the club with five players logging time at the position so far this season. Recent loanee addition Joe Greenspan has provided much-needed stability, starting the past two matches to the tune of one assist and 16 clearances - second only to Jack (23). • Long-time Hounds Mike Green and Kevin Kerr will soon again be moving up the club’s all-time lists. For Green (120), he is currently three caps away from cracking the top-three for most appearances in club history. Kerr meanwhile is one appearance away from securing seventh (105) in club history to himself and three goals away (20) from moving into the top-five for most goals scored. With a win or draw this weekend, the Hounds will capture points in three-straight road matches for the first time since the 2015 season. Since the USL began play in 2011, Pittsburgh has never started the season unbeaten on the road in three- straight. 2017 SCHEDULE & RECORD Overall Record: 1-2-2 Home: 0-2-1 • Away: 1-0-1 • Non-League Play: 0-0-0 MARCH Sat. 25 NEW YORK RED BULLS II YouTube T, 3-3 APRIL Sat. 1 FC CINCINNATI YouTube L, 0-1 Sat. 8 @Charleston Battery YouTube W, 2-1 Wed. 12 SAINT LOUIS FC YouTube L, 1-2 Sat. 15 @Charlotte Independence YouTube T, 1-1 Sat. 22 @Richmond Kickers YouTube 5 pm Sat. 29 HARRISBURG CITY ISLANDERS YouTube 7 pm MAY Wed. 3 TORONTO FC II ESPN3 7 pm Sat. 13 @Ottawa Fury FC YouTube 2 pm Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round Two Sat. 17 TBD N/A TBD Sat. 20 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube 7 pm Wed. 24 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube 6:30 pm JUNE Sat. 3 ORLANDO CITY B YouTube 7 pm Sat. 10 @Toronto FC II YouTube 7:30 pm Sat. 17 @Louisville City FC YouTube 7:30 pm Thur. 22 TAMPA BAY ROWDIES YouTube 7 pm JULY Tue. 4 CHARLOTTE INDEPENDENCE YouTube 7 pm Sat. 8 @Orlando City B YouTube 7:30 pm Sat. 15 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 5 pm Sat. 22 @Rochester Rhinos YouTube 6:05 pm Wed. 26 CHARLESTON BATTERY YouTube 7 pm Sat. 29 @Tampa Bay Rowdies YouTube 7:30 pm AUGUST Sat. 5 RICHMOND KICKERS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 12 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube 7 pm Sat. 19 @Saint Louis FC YouTube 8:30 pm Sat. 26 BETHLEHEM STEEL FC YouTube 7 pm SEPTEMBER Sat. 2 @FC Cincinnati YouTube 4 pm Sat. 9 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube 7 pm Sat. 16 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sun. 24 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 3 pm Sat. 30 @New York Red Bulls II YouTube 4 pm OCTOBER Sat. 7 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 14 OTTAWA FURY FC YouTube 7 pm 2017 Pittsburgh Riverhounds > riverhounds.com > @PghRiverhounds > #RICvPGH LAST TIME OUT Last Game Summary Hounds, 1, Charlotte Independence, 1 Game 5 Eagle Field April 15, 2017 INDIVIDUAL Category Riverhounds Opponent Points 4 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Goals 2 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 2 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Assists 1 - five tied 2 - Wes Charpie, Saint Louis (4/12) Shots 6 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) 4 - Florian Valot, New York (3/25) SOG 4 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 3 - Florian Valot, New York (3/25) Saves 4 - Keasel Broome vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Mitch Hildebrandt, Cincinnati (4/1) TEAM Hounds High Hounds Low Category Opp High Opp Low 8 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Points 8 - vs. New York (3/25) 2 - at Charlotte (4/15) 3 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Goals 3 - vs. New York (3/25) 1 - three times 2 - twice 0 - twice Assists 2 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - at Charlotte (4/15) 14 - vs. New York (3/25) 9 - vs. Saint Louis (4/12) Shots 16 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) 9 - twice 6 - vs. New York (3/25) 3 - three times SOG 7 - vs. New York (3/25) 2 - vs. Saint Louis (4/12) 4 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - vs. Saint Louis (4/12) Saves 4 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) 2 - three times 14 - at Charleston (4/8) 9 - twice Fouls 17 - twice 12 - vs. Saint Louis (4/12) SUPERLATIVES CLUB NOTABLES All-Time Leading Goal Scorer ......................................................................
