Mary Audrey Paride Angel, 84, formerly of New Paltz, N.Y., died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

She was born to the late Ralph and Mary Scoz-zafava Paride.

Angel is survived by her husband of 66 years, Thomas J. Angel; and two daughters, Maria Cataldi and Jeannette Warms.

Funeral mass was held June 3 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Cremation followed services.

The Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Floy Tommie Walters Robinson, 90, of Lawrence-burg, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in Charleston, S.C.

She was born to the late William Edward and Margaret Jane Farris Walters.

Robinson is survived by four children, Donna Jane Woods, Charles Thomas Robinson, Sherry Ann Devlin and Carla Kay Timmis.

Funeral services were held June 4 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Law-renceburg Cemetery.

Frankfort Regionalreceives highest rating

Frankfort Regional Medical Center received an “A” rating for the second consecutive report on patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2013 report card - Hospital Safety Scores, according to a press release.

The score reflects Frankfort Regional’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from infec-tions, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Frankfort Regional also received an “A” rating in the previous report in November 2012, according to the press release.

There were 2,514 U.S. hospitals receiving grades, 45 in Kentucky. Frankfort Regional Medical Center was one of only four hospitals in Central Kentucky to receive an “A,” and one of only 13 in the state. Leapfrog does not grade specialty or pediatric hos-pitals, according to the press release.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national nonprofit organization that administers the Score, graded hospitals on an “A, B, C, D, or F” scale based on 26 measures of publicly available hospital safe-ty data to produce a single grade.

The Hospital Safety Score is the only publicly accessible standard of hospital safety available free to the public, according to the press release.

Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hos-pital Safety Score methodology has been analyzed in the peer-reviewed “Journal of Patient Safety.,” according to the press release.

When Karen Wooldridge first came to work at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, the emergency department only had six beds for patients.

Now, after completing the $8.4 million Emergency Department renovation, Frankfort Regional has increased its number of beds from 18 to 28 enclosed private rooms, added 2,600 square feet and a new $1 million 64-slice CT scanner.

Wooldridge, the director of emergency and cardiac services, thanked her staff for their work and patience during an emer-gency department grand open-ing held last Saturday.

The emergency department

officially opened for patients in September 2012 in the first-phase of Frankfort Regional’s renovation. Staff often worked in two separate facilities during the 18 months of construction as the three-phase project neared completion.

“They have continued to provide quality care to our patients,” Wooldridge said of emergency department staff.

According to Brad Wands, director of business develop-ment, Frankfort Regional’s emergency department saw about 31,416 patients last year.

Frankfort Regional Medical Center has averaged 5,685 visits from Lawrenceburg residents over the past four years, equal to about 18 percent of total ER vol-ume, Wands said via e-mail.

“We love it,” Lawrenceburg resident Amy Lewis, an emer-gency department technician at Frankfort Regional, said. “It’s been a long time coming. I think the community deserves it.”

Lewis and fellow Ander-son County resident Jennifer Shuttleworth, a registered nurse in the emergency department, were volunteering Saturday for the medical center’s second Kid’s Safety Day event.

Held in honor of the late Charlie Semones to increase child safety awareness, Kid’s Safety Day featured stations to check child safety seats, a bike safety course, pool safety and more.
