Visual Story Telling?

• A visual narrative is a story told primarily through the use of visual media.

• The story may be told using still photography, illustration, or video, and can be enhanced with graphics, music, voice and other audio.

• Any kind of a story told visually is a visual narrative.

• Distinguishing characteristics of the visual narrative include:– a persuasive story with a point of view– high quality images, still or moving– subject matter with pressing social, environmental, or spiritual value

Visual Story Telling?

• Good stories are “worth remembering and worth retelling”

• Show the world who you are• Show the world what your hotel has to offer• What is the value to the guest to stay with you? • How will are you going to be captivating?• What is visual appealing to you?

Visual Story Telling Ideas For Hotels

• Ask your guests to take a photograph or create a video highlighting their favorite part of their stay and uploaded it – “consumer generated context will be so much more

powerful and convincing”(Tnooz) – This simple act is made easier thanks to the camera

and video capabilities of today’s Smartphones and tablets and tools such as Vine.

• Form a team @ your hotel that combines

– Sales leaders

– Service leaders

– Social media superstars

VSN 2013 CONTEST

• Start date 5/6/13 ( you have two weeks to pick a team and devise a plan)

• Weekly results will be announced on Fridays

• Goal is to earn the most points

• Competition will end on Friday August 30

• Visual is more appealing to the eye

• Along with the visual appeal we need to network and communicate with everyone that responds back to us

WHAT WILL BE REQUIREDOF THE TEAM?

VSN Objective# 1-Your Story

– How is your hotel different?

– How is your staff different?

– Why is the choice clear that you are #1?

– WHAT IS YOUR STORY

• Lets get creative

• Use our tools we have –SOCIAL MEDIA

• Location story, staff story, guest story, make up story, get creative, get involved, and have fun) (HINT: YOU CAN HAVE MULTIPLE STORIES)

• Facebook- Revinate

• Twitter- Revinate

• Foursquare- Revinate

• Pinterest

• Youtube

VSN Objective # 2-Facebook

• Step one- set your post up on Revinate to save time … One post a day is required .

– (facebook and twitter should not have the same campaign running at the same time or you will loose followers retention)

• Step two- what is your story or stories you want to share on Facebook? Start sharing..

– More visual content the better– followers retention

VSN Objective # 3 Twitter Campaign

• Step one- set your tweets up on revinate to save time . At least one tweet a day is required– (facebook and twitter should not have the same

campaign running at the same time or you will loose followers retention)

• Step two- what is your story or stories you want to share on Tweets? Start sharing..

• Step 3- you must respond to all people who are talking to you!

BE CREATIVE!!!!!

VSN Objective #4- Video & YouTube

• You will create 1 video per month for the contest (May- August, 4 total videos)

• Video must be posted before the last day of the month to get points

• Video ideas-– Service– Guest’s videos– Local area attractions– Events you host or go to – Your charity events – Your videos must be approved by GM & Regional before

posting on ANY Social Next Work

VSN Objective #5-Pinterest

• Continue setting up your visual pin-board to tell your story

• Maintain you pinboard at least once a week

• Promote events, area, etc

VSN Objective #6-Four Square

• Link to revinate before May 6!!!

• Communication with all staff!

• Celebrate the Mayor- every time you get a new one

• Respond to all guest tips left

• Offer Specials

• Get Creative

BONUS: VSN @Mentions /Communications

• Are people talking about you?

• Are people saying awesome things about your staff on these sites?

• Are people saying bad things about your hotel on these sites?

• All comments and mentions need to be responded to

• All shout outs and good referrals are encourage

How will you earn points?

• Revinate- Facebook, Twitter, & Four square are they set up and linked?- Automatic 10 points once all set up

• Facebook- 1 point per post or 2 points for a compelling visual post that tells a story

• Twitter- (Can not be the same as facebook) 1 point per tweet or 2 points for a compelling visual tweet that tells a story

How will you earn points?

• Youtube & Video points- 20 points per video created (you can do more than 4) Points- 5 points for posting on youtube channel

• Pinterest- you will get 1 point for every new follower

• Four Square- you will get 1 point for every new check in2 points if you publicly respond to all tips left by guest5 points every time you celebrate a new mayor

• Creativity- you can earn up to 10 points

• EXTRA BONUS POINTS– Every time you get a guest or client to give you a visual (photo, video) referral must be posted

to one of the sites – 50 points per time– Every time a staff member gets mentioned on one of these sites (good review, kudos,

referrals, etc)- 10 points per time
