PONTIUS, BLAKE TO GO HEAD-TO-HEAD IN 2017 CONCA-CAF GOLD CUP FINALOn Wednesday evening, from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final will be played with two Union players involved ... Andre Blake (Jamaica) is set to face off against Chris Pontius (USA) for the title ... Blake has served as Jamaica's captain through-out the tournament, playing every minute of every match with three clean sheets (including two against Mexico) en route to the Final ... meanwhile, Pontius has appeared in three of the USA's matches along the way, including a start in the final Group Stage match against Nicaragua (July 15) ... Alejandro Bedoya also partook in the Group Stage with the United States before returning home to join his family ahead of the birth of his second child, while Bethlehem Steel FC's Cory Burke is also currently a mem-ber of Jamaica.

FONTANA SIGNS HOMEGROWN PLAYER CONTRACT, WILL JOIN UNION'S ACTIVE ROSTER ON JANUARY 1, 2018Last week, Philadelphia Union announced that midfielder Anthony Fontana has signed a professional contract with the club, becoming a Homegrown Player ... a 17-year-old midfielder from Newark, Delaware, Fontana is the sixth Homegrown Player in Union history ... the signing is for Fontana to officially join the Union as of January 1, 2018, at which time he will be added to the club’s active roster.

Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin

    On Saturday's match at Columbus...

"Overall, a tough night for the group. The guys put a lot into the game. It’s a tough time of the year to run into a tough stretch of kind of fluky injuries that have hit us, some inter-national call-ups with the guys on the field. We actually had a lot of possession, but there wasn’t a lot of purpose with the possession. We didn’t make Columbus backpedal or have any difficult situations to deal with. So from that standpoint, a frustrating night, credit to them. It’s always tough to lose on an own goal, but at the same time we’ll have to rebound quickly and go again against Columbus on Wednesday."

On playing Columbus again in this match...

"[Saturday] was a very tight game. They came out in a 3-4-3. We actually had their lineup and were prepared for them to play that way with [Federico] Higuain being out. Again, the guys started the game with a lot of possession but the chal-lenge now when we go back into our home stadium is to have more actions to goal, more crosses, more guys running hard in the box just to make it a lot harder on them."

    On Adam Najem's first start...

"I thought Adam was excellent. He was busy, he gave us a lot of time and possession on the ball. He was composed, he looked like he belonged. He did a great job. Now the chal-lenge is for guys, when he gets on the ball, to run off him and try to get more penetration into the box because we didn’t create enough tonight."
