and repairs are underway. More than a dozen tra ins were running behind schedule. Flood water has entered many places in Azamgarh.

Many rivers are in the spate after heavy rains in the state since Saturday. District administration of Hardoi held a meeting with local Army officials to alert them of an impending flood-like situation in the district.

As per reports from Flood Control unit of the irrigation and water resource department Sharda river was flowing 1.3 meter above the danger mark in LakhimpurKheri while Ghaghra crossed the danger mark in Barabanki. At least nine villages were submerged in flood waters in Barabanki district including Parsaul, Naipura, Manjha Raipur and Kanchanpur. District authorities feared a sharp increase in water level by Wednesday.

“Around 3 lakh cusec of water has been released from Sharda Barage in Lakhimpur which is expected to reach Barabanki from Wednesday,“ said sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Ram Nagar (Barabanki) Ashutosh Dubey. He said preparations were underway to evacuate residents of the villages on the banks of Ghaghra in the district.

The worst affected districts include Lakhimpur-Kheri, Bahraich, Sitapur and Deoria. In these places, flood waters have washed away several houses, damaged roads and inundated large farmlands

The eastern district's proneness to floods is attributed, among other things, to heavy rainfall, low and flat topography, high subsoil water level and the silting of beds which causes river levels to rise. The major flood-prone rivers are the Ghaghra and Saryu, Rapti and Sharda.

According to DHM, Nepal the flood water level trend in upstream side (Chisapani and Chepang) for the last 9 days are as given below:
