Mix tank provides a homogenous mix in a proper liquid to solids ratio prior to decanter for proper separation and maximum clean solids removal. It may also provide an opportunity to blend or heat (given heater coils) a heavier than water crude for proper oil / water separation.

This is a through-the-valve sludge extraction detail designed to lower the sludge level below a manway entry area or extract limited amounts of sludge without entry along a tank perimeter. It can be cold-cut onto a manway cover plate or placed on tank perimeter gate valves.
