Humanity

Humanity is essentially the same, give or take a few degrees of separation and our own personal kinks and twists. We share the same needs, desires and basic concerns whatever our colour, creed or culture. Homage to the craft of ceramics, this series ponders the infi-nite variations and random differences that occur through the ceramic creation process. Even though each individual tile, like ourselves is unique, the ques-tion remains: are we really so different from one another!

On each tile there is a unique test num-ber, which is the method ceramicists use to record their experiments. These numbers also act as an analogy for hu-man design / DNA of individuality.

This work is available to commission in different sizes, colours and formats. The materials used in this one are bone china, glaze and gold thread.

There are several different versions of Humanity, designed and created to work for varying spaces and budgets.

Humanity - White : Dimensions: 100 x 100 x 5 cm using a 16 x 16 tile grid (other sizes avaiable).

New Humanity

This piece has been especially devel-oped to create a work that is sizable and stunning visually, yet works with a smaller budget than other Humanity pieces at this kind of scale and finish.

This piece is black stained bone-china, glazed and gold lustred. The tiles are attached to a matt black canvas giving very effective contrast to the reflective gold/bronze tiles.

This work is available to commission in different sizes, colours and formats.

Humanity - black old gold : dimensions: 122 x 152 x 4 cm bone-china and gold lustre.

New Begginning

This work is a peaceful contemplation on new life and fresh starts. Caught in the drift of time and space, there is a sense of depth and movement of primal organisms straining towards the light. Their past is reflected in the mysterious darkness they are straining to leave behind. Delicate coloured hues tint the fissures and dance with shadows as the changing light of day plays out.

This work is available to commission in different sizes, colours and formats. The materials are bone-china on black acrylic with aluminum.

New Beginning : white on black : dimensions: 120 x 120 x 12 cm bone-china on black acrylic with aluminium. New Beginning : different colours and sizes avaiable for commission. The ones above are 60 x 60 x 8 cm.

City Living

It’s easy to live and work in a city but fail to notice its splendour, beauty or the tranquillity that can found within. This work presents us with the treas-ures that we catch out of the corner of our eyes whilst we are busy with life and work.

The cityscapes are influenced by ar-chitecture and layouts from a mixture of European cities. When commis-sioned its possible to capture a section of a particular city and its key archi-tecture. These works can also work in a sequence over a few pieces sitting together to fill the right space.

The material is hand cut bone china and can be mounted on varying bases to best suit location of placement.

City Living - white on red : dimensions: 104 x 104 x 4 cm hand cut bone-china (base varies). City Living - white on black : dimensions: 150 x 150 x 2.5 cm Bone china on acrylic with alluminium.

Contour

Topography and geometry meet in these dream-like maps. Imaginary riv-ers and valleys cut through the strata of polished concrete. The absence of colour enhances the smooth chiselled finish to create a powerful homage to natural structures.

These hand made and finished works are not like machine polished marble, they are more organic looking with some area’s more matt and some more reflective. This natural aesthetic is what makes up their appeal.

Contour comes in two pre-determined dimensions: Per singular panel: 43 x 70 x 4 cm and 60 x 100 x 4 cm. There is always an allowance for a 2cm gap between panels. When commissioned its possible to change the dimensions.

Contour - Plateau : dimensions: 122 x 100 x 4 cm hand polished concrete (other sizes avaiable). Example of how a number of panels can form a larger piece. Dimensions: 70 x 223 x 4 cm hand polished concrete

Page 10: Petr Weigl artists portfolio 2015

Contour

These contours are made from cold cast metals, like a kind of metal plating. A mould is made from a concrete original. Then real bronze powder is mixed with resin to form the first coat, which is then backed with fibreglass for strength.

The bronze oxidises with age leaving beautiful natural organic subtle colours whilst darkening uniquely based on the immediate environment. The dimensions of cold cast metals are based on the moulds we have all ready had made. We also make sheet metal contours which eliminates the need for a mould and can be designed to the desired size.

Dimensions: 69.5 x 220.5 x 2 cm

Contour - Canyon - Ravine - Valley : dimensions: 69.5 x 220.5 x 2 cm Contour - Alpha : dimensions: 69.5 x 220.5 x 2 cm cold cast bronze (avaiable in sheet bronze).

Erosion

The power of erosion captured in concrete. A slice of history discovered in a polished stone that has evolved through millennia.

The material is concrete mixed with varying degrees of concrete colour pigment.

These hand made and finished works are not like machine polished marble, they are more organic looking with some area’s more matt and some more reflective. This natural aesthetic is what makes up their appeal.

Erosion comes in two pre-determined dimensions: Per singular panel: 43 x 70 x 4 cm and 60 x 100 x 4 cm. There is always an allowance for a 2cm gap between pan-els. When commissioned its possible to change the dimensions.

Hydra - Horizons

Where the land or the sky meets the sea colours blur and the viewer is drawn in to these peaceful landscapes. The lines of the landscape are cloaked by diffuse, crepuscular light, slipping away with the fading hues of day.

The material is concrete mixed with varying degrees of concrete colour pig-ment. These come with my own cre-ated mountain ranges or can be a com-missioned as Barclay’s Wealth did for their offices in Geneva, asking for Mont Blanc & Mont Saleve.

These hand made and finished works are not like machine polished marble, they are more organic looking with some area’s more matt and some more reflective. This natural aesthetic is what makes up their appeal.

Fossil

Memories of change embedded in the earth. The essence of life is preserved in Cambrian stone. Shedding light on our origins, our existence and our future, the energy of a moment is captured forever. The material is concrete mixed with varying degree of concrete colour pigment.

The Way We Were

As modern life plays out we always seem to be short of time. But we adapt and get on - the past is forgotten and it’s traditions gradually abandoned. The 70s & 80s hold fond memories for me. It was a time when families would regularly gather to celebrate shared love, diversity and history. This piece is homage to the family - to coming together: to the playing, talking, laughing, eating, drinking, joking and stories being passed from one generation to the next. It’s a celebration of how were and are!

The Way We Are

Aesthetically the same but as the title sug-gests this piece is about capturing the now/current & immediate past.

These hand made and finished works are not like machine polished marble, they are more organic looking with some area’s more matt and some more reflective. This natural aesthetic is what makes up their appeal.

Flora & Fauna

Flora & Fauna represents a visual rearrangement of the grounds surface, covered in a blanket woven from the remains of summers bloom.

Organically scattered elements make up a transition between intense and loosely laid patterns which we have followed to capture and create the collection.

The materials are porcelain paper clay and can be mounted on varying bases to best suit location of placement.

Petr Weigl Petr Weigl is an artist specialising in remarkable contemporary art pieces created in concrete, glass and ceramics. Son of a Czech émigré born in England, Petr trained as a graphic designer before following his muse and dedicating himself to ceramics at Central St. Martin’s in 2001.

Petr finds inspiration from his past, the present, how he perceives himself in the world around him. This predominantly breaks down into a fascination of people and their inherent interactions. Also and equally weighted the allure of Mother Nature, boasting her plethora of mathematical patterns in imperfect perfection.

Each art piece transforms, magnifies and captures a complex blend of philosophy, emotion and self-reference. Petr’s striking works which are deceptively simple upon first glance, grow in complexity over time revealing visual narratives locked within.

The sublime impact of his bespoke works can be found the world over. Having ex-hibited on the international circuit, Petr’s works are collected by private collectors and commercial institutions, seeing a rapid increase of value in recent years.
