• Overall Trust performance improved to 67.2%.
• Attendances fell significantly as the public became aware of the risks relating to COVID-19.
• Overall, 10.1% of patients who attended in March had ‘COVID-19 like’ diagnoses.
• Ask A&E was used 1,294 times in March. Utilisation increased towards the end of the month and into April.
• 812 (62.8%) patients using Ask A&E were redirected to another service.
• Good Hope had one 12-hour trolley wait in March. The patient was awaiting a mental health bed.

• The overall percentage of NHS and joint delays deteriorated to 2.3%. • However, the total percentage delay remained static at 4.7%. • QEHB had an improvement in overall delayed transfer of care, whilst Heartlands and Solihull performance
deteriorated. Good Hope largely remained static at 5.5%. • Solihull performance deteriorated by 2.3pp to 8.1 %. The deterioration is partly due to an increase of 174% in
Birmingham City Council delays. The NHS and Joint delays performance also deteriorated at the site.

• 337 operations were cancelled on the day of surgery in February, compared to 344 in January. • There were ten breaches of the 28 day guarantee with seven of the breaches at QEHB and three at Heartlands. • QEHB had three breaches in Neurosurgery, two in Urology and one each in Neurology and ENT. • Heartlands had two of the breaches in Vascular Surgery with the third breach in General Surgery. • The majority of the breaches and cancellations were due to capacity issues and increased site pressures. • Eight of the patients have been treated whilst the remaining two have been removed from the waiting list.

• The Trust’s overall 62 day performance for GP referrals improved to 47.0%. Screening performance deteriorated by 13.8pp to 37.8%, against the monthly trajectory of 86.7%. All the screening breaches remain in Breast and Colorectal.
• Ongoing delays in diagnostic pathways due to capacity constraints are impacting on the treatment times for all patient groups, whether they have been referred via a GP or the screening service.
• Despite ongoing demand pressures, the Trust still delivered 233.5 accountable 62 day first treatments, an increase of nearly 20% compared to February 2019.
• Services retain close monitoring of shortfalls and backlog in order to mitigate risk and ensure patients remain safe.

• 31 day first treatment performance improved by 1.2pp to 89.7%, against a monthly trajectory of 96.2%. • The majority of breaches were in Urology, where there remain theatre capacity constraints. This is followed by
Head and Neck, Colorectal and Breast with delays in the diagnostic phase of the pathway continuing to impact on treatment times.
• Subsequent surgery performance for the Trust improved to 79.8%. Ongoing elevated urgent care demand continued to place excessive pressures on ward and ITU beds available for elective cases.

• 2 week waits for suspected cancer deteriorated to 84.5% against a monthly trajectory of 92.3%. • Breast symptomatic performance deteriorated by 17.6pp to 48.6%. • Ongoing capacity shortfalls continued to affect Breast and Colorectal pathways. • However, capacity shortfalls did show signs of reducing, with fewer patients waiting for a first appointment to be
booked. • In total the Trust still managed to ensure that 3,426 patient were seen within 14 days of referral in February.

Staff Flu Vaccinations • To achieve the 80% target, 12,008 frontline staff needed to be
vaccinated by 28 February 2020. • An extension to the deadline to 31 March for the purposes of the
associated CQUIN was agreed with Birmingham and Solihull CCG. • As of 31 March, in total 11,579 staff have been vaccinated, 429 short of
the target. • The Trust’s final performance was 77.1%.
