Pennant Hills Bowling Club Newsletter 30, 8 December 2016 News from the Men’s Club What happened? Novice Singles Final, sponsored by Kel Sullivan’s Pennant Hills Denture Clinic. On Saturday 26 November the Novice Singles Final was played between two very talented bowlers, Voytek Lasek and Michael Ryan. This was a much anticipated match - given the highly competitive and entertaining semi-finals that were on display the week before. After five ends, both players were only one shot the difference. By the 12 th end, Michael had broken away to a 14-7 lead. From the 15 th end on, Voytek amped up his draw bowls game; often holding two or three shots. And almost as often, Michael, with his final bowl, would retake the shot to win the end. After 24 ends, Michael achieved a convincing 25-12 victory. But those at the game will attest that it was not as easy as the score might suggest. Well done to both finalists and congratulations to Michael for winning the 2016 Novice Singles final. Russell McGarrity (Match Committee, Chairman etc.) Men’s Club Treasurer, Warren Phillips, congratulating the Novice Singles final winner, Michael Ryan. MIXED TRIPLES FINAL Sponsored by Laing and Simmons Real Estate Agents, Pennant Hills This match was played on Sunday, 20 November and was accidently omitted from the last newsletter. The opposing teams were: Phil Briggs, Graham Krempin and Roslyn Krempin verses Fred Foster, Cath Foster and John Archer. This was a grinding-away style of game. One team would be holding multiple shots, only to lose the end to an opposing skip’s bowl. It was 3 all on the fourth end; 9 all on the eleventh end; and 13 all on the fifteenth end. On the sixteenth end Roslyn’s team picked up 4 shots, to lead 17-13. Going into the eighteenth end, Roslyn’s team was ahead 17-15. With only a couple of bowls to be played, they were holding an additional 3 shots. Match over? Not quite! John killed the jack, forcing the teams to replay the end. John’s team did go on to win the replayed final end, but it was not enough to win the match. Congratulations to Phil, Graham and Roslyn for winning the inaugural Mixed Triples Final, 17 to 16. Well played, everyone. Russell McGarrity
