Im Abe Sutton, and this past year I served as AcademicAffairs director on the UA. In my term I brought up thenumber of syllabi posted on PennInTouch andpartnered with student groups to recommend ways toincrease faculty diversity such as grossing-up. Ive

worked with the Penn Publications Cooperative toimprove Adobe InDesign access, with the Penn Societyfor International Development to make Penn among thefirst Universities to adopt a conflict mineral-free policy,and with Penn MSA to condemn profiling on the basis of

religious affiliation. But the best part of working onthese projects was the opportunity to both mentor othermembers and interact with students groups to find outwhat their goals were. It is for this reason that I amrunning for UA vice president, to work with studentgroups to promote collaboration and to create strongerties between the UA and student groups.

There are many things that make Penn great. It wasbecause of the great possibilities this university hasoffered me that I decided to run for theUndergraduate Assembly to represent the College ofArts and Sciences. I did not come to this idea lightly. Iwanted to make sure that if I did this, I did it right.This past year I decided that I had to give back toPenn, a place that had given me so much. As a member of the UA, I will work to fix theproblems that I have noticed and those that havebeen pointed out to me. There is nowhere to get asnack while working late in the engineering

buildings, there is a lack of community within theengineering school, and the classes are weightedmore harshly in comparison to the other schools.While I have just listed these as problems, I alsolook at them as goals, things to fix. Some of these

goals are obviously more difficult to achieve thanothers, but none of them are unattainable, and allof them would greatly improve the academicenvironment of the engineering school. I want toleave my mark on SEAS by making these
