DC Public Library (DCPL) librarians Michele Casto and BobbieDougherty have dreamt of building an archival collection focusedon DC’s influential punk scene for years. Before joining the Library,Yvonne worked as a contractor andmanaged the digitization of 2.5M cardcatalog records of pre-1978 copyright assignments and transfers.This effort supported the Library’s strategic goals to preserve therecord of America’s creativity and sustain an effective nationalcopyright system.

Before moving to Maryland in 2009, she was a professionallibrarian in Texas in both academic and public library settings. Shewas a business reference librarian at Southern Methodist Universitywhere she supported researchers and taught workshops onspecialized topics and databases such as Bloomberg, among other

ALA President, CourtneyYoung, has released thisstatement regarding recentdevelopments in Indiana.

Students: Apply fora DCLA Ruth FineMemorial Loanby April 17 The Student FinancialAssistance Committee (SFAC) ispleased to announce the 2015competition for its Ruth FineMemorial Student Loan of$6,000 in support of ALA-accredited graduatelibrary/information scienceeducation. This interest-freeloan, which the SFAC canforgive upon an awardee’smaintaining a 3.0 or better GPAfor the twelve months followingthe award, has been made tostudents in the DC metro areasince 2002 thanks to a bequestfrom Ms. Fine (a past presidentof DCLA). The SFAC will acceptapplications, letters ofrecommendation, and othersupporting materials by mail oremail from now until April 17,2015. Applicants must be amember of DCLA.

Preference is given toWashington, DC residents orsomeone employed in theDistrict of Columbia. For

duties. At Carrollton and Frisco Public Libraries, she served as aresource to city officials, the public and the library as a whole withher specialized reference background. She also developed andmaintained the reference collection at both libraries and othercollections, as assigned, to meet community needs. She wasintroduced to librarianship by her grandmother who was both ahigh school and academic librarian.

Yvonne is the past president of the Library of Congress ProfessionalAssociation which serves library staff by providing professionaldevelopment through programs and events. As president, Yvonneincreased the visibility of the organization and oversaw largefundraising projects including a major book sale. Yvonne was anactive member of the Texas Library Association. She served on thelocal arrangements committee for the 2008 annual conference andwas co-chair for events and arrangements. Yvonne looks forward tocontinuing the traditions of the District of Columbia LibraryAssociation and making a significant contribution as the 2015 Vice-President/President-Elect.

Secretary: Victor BenitezVictor Benitez is a librarian at DigitalCommons, Martin Luther King Jr.Memorial Library, D.C. Public Library.Victor received his LIS degree and aCommunity Informatics certificatefrom the Graduate School of Libraryand Information Science at theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Victor has servedthe D.C. Library Association as a member of the Student FinancialAid Committee and as secretary since 2013. Assecretary, Victor relaunched the association's newsletter, CapitalLibrarian, and serves as its editor. Victor was born and raised inChicago and currently lives in Petworth, DC.

Advocacy Director: Ebony HenryMy name is Eboni M. Henry; I am aBranch manager for DC Public Libraryand up for re-election for Director ofAdvocacy. I have worked in the libraryfield for over 15 years. I am very activein American Library Association as aCouncilor at Large, Committee ofLegislation, ALA APA Salaries andStandards past chair, BCALA Co-chairof the International Relations Committee and past Executive Boardmember. My professional concerns for 21st century libraries arethe equal access to library services and information to low incomefamilies and homeless. I want to continue my work on theExecutive Board to ensure that the DC Library Associationcontinues to uphold its objective to promote and support librariesand information centers and to provide for professionaldevelopment, continuing education, and collegial exchange amonglibrarians and information specialists in Washington, D. He currently works with the District of Columbia Public Library(DCPL) as a library associate in the Center for Accessibility. Inconjunction with the Library for the Blind and physicallyhandicapped (LBPH), he serves some of the best customers in theworld. He enjoys planning community programs and advocatingfor equal access to education and library related resources. He said,“I am thrilled about this new journey and I look forward to thepossibility of serving each of you.”

Career and Leadership Director: KimberlyKnightKimberly Knight is currently aManager with DC Public Library. With20 years in public libraries, she hasworked in diverse settings fromOakland and Los Angles to PrinceWilliam and Arlington servingchildren, teens, and adults. Kimberlyhas a wealth of experience arrangingprograms, leading system-widecommittees, public forums, training and development opportunitiessuch as the annual DCPL Staff Day. Kimberly has been active withthe California Librarians Black Caucus, ALA, ALSC, PLA, andpresented at VLA and the Library of Virginia Conferences. She hascompleted training in Leadership, Management Training, andToastmasters and is a member of the Library Leadership andManagement Association (LLAMA). Kimberly is very excited tobecome more active with DCLA and for the opportunity to run forthe Career & Leadership Development Director.

Career and Leadership Director: Emily WagnerEmily Wagner is a graduate student inthe Department of Library andInformation Science at The CatholicUniversity of America. She works full-time as the Communications Officer forCUA's Division of UniversityAdvancement managingcommunications for fundraising andcommunity engagement. She currentlyserves as president of the Association of Graduate Library andInformation Science Students, CUA's student chapter of theAmerican Library Association. Prior to CUA, Emily spent five yearsas a writer and researcher for The Pew Charitable Trusts. She haslived in Washington, D.C. for the past seven years and is an alumnaof Mount Holyoke College.
