Structure & VarietyWe include a variety of activities to keep young minds and bodies active and challenged. Free choice and relaxation time provides a chance to enjoy low-key activities between more in-depth, structured projects and games. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced. Field trips to natural areas, recreation sites, and cultural centers are fun learning experiences. We create an environment that is structured and supportive, but also fun and flexible.

Summer Camps!

Staff & SafetySafety is our number one priority. We hire highly skilled, energetic, and caring people who truly love working with children. All of our staff are First Aid and CPR certified, and must pass a background check.

We spend our days engaged in active, creative, and social activities that involve very little or no screen time.

Unplugged

Registation & PaymentCamps fill quickly, so register early. If you need to withdraw, a full refund will only be issued if the notice is given by noon on the Wednesday before camp starts. You may pay the entire balance at the time of registration, or you can pay a down payment of $10 per week and schedule your payments to be due Monday prior to the camp’s start date.

Meet our Performing Arts Team!

Sandy Shaner has been a director, choreographer, performer and more for over 35 years. She has produced and directed for the Oregon Symphony, as well as been the Artistic Director for the former “Peanut Gallery Theatre”. After receiving training at Portland State University and Portland Community College, Sandy has taught dance, theatre, and infant classes throughout the Portland-Metro area. She continues her education at PSU as a Psychology Major and plans to continue her love of the arts after completing her degree.

Carlos Lasuncet moved to North Portland from Los Angeles in 2007. He brought with him years of music experience from working in recording studios and performance venues. He is a dedicated educator, working at Open Meadow Middle School as a science and music teacher. He enjoys any opportunity to share his knowledge and lifelong passion for music with children, and hopes to inspire young students to learn how to express themselves though music.

Rebecca Hall began dancing at the age of 13, studying Jazz, Modern, and Ballet. She earned her B.S. in Dance Pedagogy from the University of Idaho. Rebecca has experience studying and per-forming with notable artists in the NW and nationally. She brings her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology and artistic talents to the classes she teaches.

Adam Brock graduated with a BM in Jazz Performance from PSU in 2011. He’s been teaching gui-tar and piano lessons for 5 years, and loves showing students how exciting and fun music making is! Adam’s music has been featured on releases by local record label Tender Loving Empire (Radiation City, Typhoon). Adam was selected as a national finalist in the 2013 New Song Contest out of 2,000 entries and received the highest score for emerging artist from the editors of the Deli Magazine. He also has a little ditty that will be accompanying a commercial in the 2014 Super Bowl!

Marissa Manza began teaching at Peninsula Park Community Center this Fall and has been a welcome addition to the team. She will graduate this May with a degree and license in elementary and special education. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, she started dancing when she was three years old and continued to dance in the areas of ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary through college. Marissa was part of the Tacoma YMCA dance company and was a dance instructor at the YMCA for five years before moving to Portland. Dancing is one of her biggest passions, and she loves to share that passion with others through teaching.

Bayley Johnson has had a passion for dance since she was three-years-old. Classically trained in ballet and jazz, she broadened her focus in college at The University of Montana where she studied improvisation, hip-hop, and ethnic dance. She enjoys taking class as often as she can and is excited to share her love of dance with others. She has been teaching for Peninsula Park Commu-nity Center for two years and hopes to continue the tradition for years to come.

Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to participate in pro-grams offered citywide.

How it Works1. Choose the activity you would like to

participate in, and then the PP&R site where the activity is being offered.

2. Register for the activity. You can do this in person at a PP&R site, or on-line at www.PortlandParks.org. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity (online, check the box.)

3. Once registered, please contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member. At the end of the phone intake, it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs.

Important DetailsA general program may be adapted using

auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed, and can be flexible and creative. Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. Personal care is provided for activities in the pre-school and youth category, up through age 12.

If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.

The business of volunteering, that is. Ever wonder what it takes to keep Peninsula Park Rose Garden looking beautiful all summer for the local community, not to mention being a destination site for national and international visitors?

Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden currently support more than two dozen volunteers who donate hundreds of hours during peak season, which runs from June through September.

New volunteers are always welcome. No special expertise with roses is required as garden veterans are always on hand to provide guidance and easy-to-follow instructions. That means you’ll have the benefit of working with a friendly team at one of the city’s loveli-est public gardens, all while keeping the garden beautiful.

From the first week in June until the end of September, volunteers help with deadheading and weeding Mondays, Wednesdays and Fri-days, 8 a.m. to noon. All you need are comfortable garden gloves. Pruners are available, but you are welcome to bring you own.

On Fridays, veteran Master Gardeners are on site to work with volunteers and host an informal break at 10 a.m. This gives volunteers the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about roses from the park’s horticultural staff and Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden. One-hour orientation sessions are scheduled for June 4 and 6 at 9:00 a.m. If you can’t at-tend either session, or you want more details about volunteering at the garden, please email volunteer coordinator, Carolyn Bailey, at [email protected]
