• Climates: Coastal, Lowland, Temperate Rain Forest, Subalpine, and Alpine
• Weather depends on season and elevation
• Rain in the temperate rain forest could be snow in the alpine climate
Landforms• Olympic Mountain• Olympic Rock• Deer Park
Waterways• Pacific Coastline• Ewha Rivers- destroying of two dam will open
up 70 miles for salmon to spawn
Vegetation• Red Cedar, Subalpine firs, Big leaf maples,
silver firs, alpine tundra tree line• These are all from the different climates
around the park and in the different seasons
Animals• Aquatic animals: Whales, Dolphins, Sea lions,
Seals• Land animals: Raccoons, Beavers, Minks, Elk,
Deer, Cougars, and Bears
Environmental Issues• Heavy rain causes landslides and possibly
floods• Sediment to the erosion of sedimentary rock• Receding glaciers
History/Culture• People- Hunter gathers of the native Indians
To the settlement of new Americans • Washington coastline villages became whaling
villages where they would kill whales for oil• Some families would travel from place to
place on the Olympic mountain• Olympic Peninsula was the final frontier of the
Continental United States
Preservation Efforts• Rangers keep a patrol to watch for poachers
and keep the park a safe place to visit • The organization of the park is always helped
with park volunteers • The preservation of specific animals are also
upheld such as the no killing or harming of whales
