Pediatric Colorectal Problems WorkshopA Comprehensive Surgical & Management Workshop
Course DescriptionThis course is designed for pediatric surgery, urology and gynecology faculty, fellows and pediatric nurses managing patients with colorectal issues. In addition to lectures and case discussions, it also includes live demonstrations and digital animations of the surgical repair of the most frequent types of colorectal problems.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:– Explain the principles of diagnosis and management of anorectal defects– Discuss the challenges of short-and long-term postoperative care– Explain the principles of treatment of Hirschsprungs disease and related disorders– Describe the diagnosis of Hirschsprungs disease and idiopathic constipation and the difference in their management– Identify indications for reoperative surgery in anorectal malformations and Hirschsprungs– Discuss management of associated urologic and gynecologic problems– Describe the comprehensive management approach to cloacal exstrophy– Explain the use of the posterior sagittal approach for a variety of conditions– Review treatment principles for patients with fecal incontinence– Discuss the evaluation and management of the post pull through Hirschsprungs patient who is not doing well
This three-day intensive teaching course will examine the surgical treatment and management of pediatric anorectal and colorectal surgical problems including:– Live operating room demonstrations with discussion– Methods of evaluation of surgical techniques– Anorectal malformations– Cloacal malformations– Cloacal exstrophy– Prognosis of these deformities– Hirschsprungs disease– Idiopathic constipation– Intestinal Failure– Fecal incontinence– Education on IBD– Laparoscopy in Colorectal Surgery– Interactive opportunity to share case studies

Topics for this special session will include vaginal replacement, reproductive outcomes of women with congenital anomalies, the role of the posterior sagittal approach in gynecologic surgery, interesting gynecologic cases in anorectal malformations, concerns with menses, newborn gynecologic issues,and management of cloacal malformations.
