INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT RETURN THIS PAGE To be eligible for any of these scholarships, you must be enrolled as a graduating

senior at Pearland High School BEFORE the end of the 1st semester of the 2016-

2017 school year.

Requirements are listed separately for each scholarship application. Please read

the scholarship requirements carefully. Make sure your paperwork is in the

correct order according to each scholarship.

Use the fillable pdf application pages found online. Handwritten

applications will not be accepted.

Make copies of the Personal History pages and attach a copy with each

application.

Each scholarship has a separate application that must be signed and

attached to the required documents.

You will need to request only one transcript from Christy Pruitt, Counselor

Secretary, by January 20, 2017. Transcripts can either be requested in

person or via email at [email protected]. Make copies for each

application submitted. After January 20, you will need to request a

transcript from the Registrar’s office, the cost will be $1.

Scholarship winners will not be announced until the Senior Scholarships Awards

Ceremony, May 4, 2017. You will be notified if you are a recipient of any of the

listed scholarships 1 week prior to the awards ceremony. PLEASE MAKE

ARRANGEMENTS TO ATTEND.

Keep Pearland Beautiful Joe Miller Environmental Scholarship

Purpose: To encourage and assist at least two worthy Pearland residential senior students who have demonstrated good stewardship of the environment and whose wish it is to continue their studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: At least two $1,000 scholarships (Number of scholarships will be determined by KPB Committee) Scholarship Eligibility: Must have a grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must be a resident of Pearland, Texas and a graduating senior in high school. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Provide a letter of recommendation from an outside source (not a family member). The Teacher

Checklist form does not count as a letter of recommendation. 4. Provide a transcript. 5. A 500-word essay titled: “Sustaining Our Planet” addressing one of the prompts below:

Describe a major environmental problem and what you believe should be done about it. Include how you, personally, plan to help address the issue.

Respond to Margaret Mead’s quote stating, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtfully committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” Give examples of groups committed to preserving the environment, including a group that you were a member.

Dave Foreman said, “Do something. Pay your rent for the privilege of living on this beautiful blue-green, living Earth.” How do you plan to “pay your rent” to Earth?

The Keep Pearland Beautiful committee will screen applicants and select finalists to be interviewed. The

committee will then interview the candidates and select the number of recipients according to the number

of scholarships available.

Pearland Area Dads Club

Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School senior who participated in any youth group activity at the Pearland Area Dads Club whose wish is to continue his/her studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: To be determined at time of presentation. Scholarship Eligibility: Must have participated in one of the youth group activities at the Pearland Area Dads Club. Pearland Classroom Teachers Association Scholarship

Purpose:

To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland ISD senior who wishes to continue their studies in the education field.

Scholarship Award: At least one (1) $700 scholarship. Scholarship Eligibility:

The applicant MUST plan to teach elementary, secondary or college level. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher at the school you are currently attending. 4. Provide one letter of recommendation from sources outside of PHS (employer, pastor, coach,

sponsor, and/or employer). Please no family members or friends. In addition, the letter of recommendation MUST include a heading, title of the person writing the letter and contact information must be included.

5. 300-400 word essay double spaced, 12 or 14 Times Roman Font. Your essay must include: Why I desire to go into the education field and what level of education I plan on teaching and

content area I think I could teach?

Why I think I would be a good educator?

The experience I have had working with or instructing others (especially children) in church, scouts, or child care.

PEARLAND ISD LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Pearland Council of PTA’s Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage and assist Pearland ISD seniors whose wish is to continue their studies at a four year college/university, a two year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award:

Amounts and number of scholarship(s) awarded will be determined before the Senior Awards Ceremony.

Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland ISD PTA Member (Parent or Student) by 10/31/2016.

Must be a Pearland ISD senior at the time of submitted application. Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

Pearland Girls Softball Christine Vaughn Johnson

Memorial Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage and assist worthy Pearland ISD High School senior female students who participated in the Pearland Girls Softball Association whose wish is to continue their studies at a four-year college/university, two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award:

Scholarships will be awarded to the top three recipients in the amounts of $1,000, $750, and $250. Scholarship Eligibility: Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Must have participated in PGSA for at least one year. A four-year college/university, two-year community college, or a trade/technical school identified.

Purpose: To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School senior student who participated in FFA whose wish is to continue his/her studies at a four-year college/university, two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: To be announced at the FFA Booster Club Banquet. Check One: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.) Pearland FFA Booster Club Scholarship Eligibility and Application Requirements:

1. Must be a paid Pearland FFA member for at least two years 2. GPA 2.5 or higher 3. Read and sign this application 4. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. Pearland High School Spanish Honor Society

Purpose:

To be awarded to a graduating senior of Pearland High School who has completed the equivalent of 3 years of Spanish.

Scholarship Award: Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School senior at time of application. Must plan to continue to study Spanish in college. Must have or maintained a “B” average in Spanish. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Attach a letter stating your educational goals and career plans including the use of Spanish in the

future. 4. Provide a letter of recommendation from 2 teachers. 5. Provide a transcript.

It is understood that the Pearland High School Spanish Scholarship Committee will determine the winner of

this scholarship. Applicants will be judged on the basis of general academic standing and performance,

applicant’s ability and performance in Spanish, specific teacher recommendations, and applicant’s goals,

philosophies and future plans.

It is understood that the Lions Club Scholarship recipients will be paid directly by the Scholarship

Committee Chairperson upon approval of the President and Treasurer as follows:

50% upon producing a valid registration and class assignment form of the first semester that has

been pre-paid by student.

The remaining 50% will be paid for the second semester when the above information plus a current

transcript showing 1st semester grades have been provided.

Waste Connections Scholarship

Purpose:

To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School senior whose wish is to continue his/her studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: Two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. Scholarship Eligibility: Must be in top 50% of graduating class Must have participated in a school or community activity Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. 500-word essay on the topic of “How Landfills can be used as a Renewable Energy Source” (DO

Waste Connections Scholarship.




Shadycrest Elementary PTA Scholarship Purpose:

To provide financial assistance for further education (at a four-year university, junior or community college, or accredited trade school) to a former Shadycrest Elementary student who is currently a PISD graduating high school student.

Scholarship Award:

There shall be at least one scholarship awarded yearly, and the scholarship shall be awarded in the amount of $1,000, with the remaining amount awarded in $500 increments.

Scholarship Eligibility: Must have attended Shadycrest Elementary for at least one school calendar year. Must be a graduating Pearland ISD high school student. Meet school attendance guidelines as stipulated by the State of Texas. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, based on school’s permanent records, for the last two years. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Written essay of up to 200 words about the student’s time at Shadycrest Elementary. 4. Provide a transcript. 5. Provide a letter of recommendation from an outside source. (Not a family member)

It is understood that the committee shall be composed of three (3) or five (5) representatives from the Shadycrest Elementary PTA. The committee will screen anonymous applicants and select a maximum of twelve (12) candidates. The number of recipients will be selected according to the number of scholarships available. The committee may choose to interview the candidates as part of the decision making process. If the committee chooses to conduct interviews, the interview dates will be determined by the Scholarship Chairperson in coordination with the PHS Counselor’s office. If applicable, applicants will be notified of the interview date and time by The PHS Counselor’s office.



Shadycrest Elementary PTA Scholarship.




Sheryl Searcy Memorial Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School senior whose wish is to pursue a career in education.

Scholarship Award:

One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $500 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School senior at time of application Must attend a state accredited college/university unless critical illness interferes Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above Must pursue a career in education in elementary, intermediate, or high school. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. 200 word essay on one of the following: (DO NOT write your name on the essay or any

identifying references to yourself; double-space, font size 12 or 14)

“What is the greatest need in education today, and what will you do as a future teacher to help meet it?”

The Searcy Family will consider only the applicants meeting all eligibility requirements and will judge them solely on the content of their essay.

Pearland Silverlake Lions Club –

Beatrice Wood Theriot Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School female senior whose wish is to continue her studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School female student Must have a scholastic average of 2.5 or above Must have participated in one or more community service projects Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Written essay on the topic of Participating in a Community Service Project and how it

influenced and benefitted you. (typed, double spaced, font size 12) 4. Letter from sponsor detailing community service and volunteer hours. 5. Provide a transcript.

The primary consideration will be the applicant’s essay, as well as their participation in extracurricular activities and their demonstration of good character, integrity and maturity.

Scholarship Award: One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $750 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School student at the time of application Must meet the college entrance requirements Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

SRI Meenakshi Temple Society Scholarship.




Silverlake Elementary Alumni PTO Scholarship Purpose:

To provide financial assistance for further education (a 4yr university, junior or community college or an accredited trade school) to a former Silverlake Elementary student.

Scholarship Award: One $500 scholarship will be awarded for a senior graduating from PHS, DHS, or THS. Scholarship Eligibility: Must have attended Silverlake Elementary for one full school year. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Letter of Recommendation from source outside of high school (non-relative) 4. 300 word typed essay, 12 pt. times new roman font on “How Silverlake Elementary Affected My

Education” including a.) Years you attended Silverlake Elementary; b.) College you plan to attend, with acceptance information, if known; and c.) The course of study or major you plan to follow.

5. Provide a complete transcript, which must show current GPA, enrollment information and include STAAR test scores.

Athletic Booster Club Scholarship

Purpose: To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School male senior who participated in boys’ soccer and whose wish is to continue his studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: Minimum of one (1) scholarship in the amount of $750

Announced during the PHS Men’s soccer athletic booster club end of year banquet/award ceremony Scholarship Eligibility:

1. Open to any PHS senior who is currently on Men’s Varsity Soccer Team who exemplifies leadership, character, sportsmanship, and academic achievement

2. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

Scholarship Award: A scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000.00 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a graduating senior from Pearland High School, Dawson High School or Turner High School. Must have a scholastic average of 2.5 GPA or above. Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

Purpose:

To encourage and assist a worthy Pearland High School seniors whose wish is to continue their studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School student Must have a scholastic average of 2.5 or above Must have participated in one or more community service projects Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Written essay on the topic of “Participating in a Community Service Project and how it

influenced and benefitted you”. (typed, double spaced, font size 12) 4. Letter from sponsor detailing community service and volunteer hours. 5. Provide a transcript.

The primary consideration will be the applicant’s essay, as well as their participation in extracurricular activities and their demonstration of good character, integrity and maturity.

Minority Scholarship

Purpose: To encourage and assist two worthy Pearland High School seniors who wish is to continue their studies at a four-year college/university, a two-year community college, or a trade/technical school.

Scholarship Award: Two book scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500.00 each. Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a Pearland High School senior student African-American, Undocumented/Immigrant or first generation college student Financial Need Must have a scholastic average of 2.0 or above Application Requirements: (Needs to be submitted in the following order.)

1. Read and sign this application. 2. Personal History and Personal History-Profile pages. (Make a copy for each scholarship.) 3. Attach a written essay on the topic of “Describe your post-secondary goal(s) and the path you

will take to achieve these goal(s)”. (typed, double spaced, font size 12) 4. Letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor 5. Provide a transcript and attendance record (You can request this info from the Counseling

office) The primary consideration will be the applicant’s essay, as well as his/her grades, daily attendance activities and demonstration of good character, integrity and maturity.

Josh Gray Memorial Scholarship Presented by PATH (Pearlanders always there to help)

Purpose: To Award one student from each of the Pearland High Schools (Pearland, Dawson, Pace and Turner) who wish to further their education and who also demonstrates exceptional integrity, compassion, kindness and embraces individuality in all.

Scholarship Award: $1,000 Scholarship Eligibility:

1. Must be a student at one of the Pearland High Schools (Pearland, Dawson, Pace, Turner).

2. Must have a GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

3. Must be a traditional college student entering a 4-year University or Community College.

Partners for Pearland

Scholarship

Purpose: Partners for Pearland was formed in June 1994 by a small group of business owners and concerned citizens with a desire to raise funds to help make a difference in children’s lives. College scholarships will be awarded to less fortunate students so that they may have access to a future through academic and vocational training.

Scholarship Award:

Ten $1,000 scholarships (One-time award)

Scholarship Eligibility: Determination of award will be based on the following criteria:

Must be a Pearland High School senior Must be attending community college in the fall of 2017 Must have a scholastic average of 2.0 or above Financial need (free/reduced lunch or one or more siblings in college)
