It has been 65 years since the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As people around the world remember the 214,000 lives that were lost in an instant, it is the artists’ hope that human beings will never take up arms against one another again and never, for the sake of our children, repeat the tragic events of August 6 and August 9, 1945. This exhibition features works by Yuko Ichikawa, Mitsuyo Mori, Yasuyo Tanaka, Hisayasu Takashito, and Rena Masuyama, and is coordinated by Kazuko Ucida. Mori, Birds Fly

Number of exhibits: three For over 20 years, I have explored a variety of media such as drawing, painting and sculpture, in search for essential elements found in nature. My recent work continues this basic approach of observing and interpreting harmonious and organic forms. The prevalence of the human hand in my work explores the gap between human and animal and represents the capacity of man bringing creativity to realization. The hand is my creative language as well as my physical tool. Mitsuyo Mori 森 光代 Number of exhibits: six My artworks are strongly inspired by the wonder of nature. I attempt to capture impressive moments wherever I go whenever I see. However, my paintings, unlike photography, do not directly depict "Nature.” I create my own abstract scenery based on what I perceived. My work is an expedition into the unknown space to search for my spirituality and identity. Number of exhibits Illustration: selected 11 pieces for the daily-paper novel Documentary Film: Pink Jeanne d’Arc (at the reception only) Academic Background Tokyo University of Fine Art (painting) Links http://renaart.com/profile/ http://momoirojeanne.com/ AKIHABARA

“Pink Jeanne d’Arc” Synopsis (extract from the original) In March 2003 when the United States was going to attack Iraq, five girls in pink bikini staged a demonstration against the war from Hibiya Park in central Tokyo. Their name is “Pink Guerrilla.” While many old-fashioned activists criticized their style, their activities were covered by newspaper and TV news, even by the CNN due to their uniqueness. Their leader is Rena Masuyama, an up-and-coming painter. While she has continued her anti-war activities as the Pink Guerrilla leader, she has energetically held her personal exhibitions and drawn attention with her radical performances like "mother milk art" using her own breast milk.In 2004, she visited Iraq where the war still continued, and proactively interacted with local artists. In tier private life, she has experienced a rocky road from marriage, birth of the first daughter to adultery, divorce, remarriage and birth of the second daughter. Masuyama, now 32, is a housewife, a mother of two. This film

introduces-Ms her three aspects as an artist, an anti-war activist carrying out radical performances, and a mother as well as being a housewife, and incorporates her 32-year history partly as reenactment.
