Page 8: Pay Mercy Forward

For we are his

workmanship,

created in Christ

Jesus for good

works, which God

prepared

beforehand,

that we should walk in them.

I used the money from the envelope and some of my own money to buy tennis shoes and socks for one of my students who is a refugee from Burma. - Jenni Mansell

I’d noticed one week that his shoes were falling apart. The next week he was wearing soccer cleats to school and said his mom threw the other pair away, so his only shoes were soccer cleats. I think he appreciates having new gym shoes now.

Mid-September we took a vacation to Virginia Beach, to attend my 20-year high school reunion. I decided to take the Mercy money with us, thinking we might run across a need while we were away. I visited my home church, Providence Friends, on a Sunday,. The pastor announced that the "Good Samaritan" fund, that the church uses to assist people in need, was running low. I looked at Ryan and asked if he wanted to give the $20 to that fund, and he agreed, so that's where it went.

In 2008, Darryl’s home was damaged by storms. He needed assistance.

In 2012, Darryl Fraylon was able to pass the money in his envelope on to The Red Cross.

Page 18: Pay Mercy Forward

I bought two musical cards , with an encouraging and funny message for two people I know who could use a good laugh and who enjoy humor. Laughter might not be the best medicine, but it is good medicine.

- Kathy Matthews

Page 19: Pay Mercy Forward

I bought a bouquet of flowers to give to my mother’s beautician, Betty who kindly agreed to come to my mother’s nursing home every two weeks to fix her hair.

- Mary VanHoy

Gas money for a young guy who was stuck. His car had run out of gas, his credit card wasn’t working. He needed money for gas to get back to college in Terre Haute.

- Garrett Clemmer

Our friend without a place to live or a job needed a battery for her cell phone so that she could receive calls from potential employers.

The $30 from Pay Mercy Forward saved the lives of two children. I used $20 to buy an antibiotic for a very sick baby with pneumonia whose parents could not afford the medicine that she really needed from the pharmacy. Pneumonia is the biggest cause of death in childrenworldwide. As a pediatrician, I am certain that this baby would have died without the medicine that she needed. This baby’s name was Mercy, and I am grateful that this gift of mercy from Redeemer was there to save her life.

Page 22: Pay Mercy Forward

I used the remaining $10 to buy another antibiotic and oral rehydration therapy for a toddler who had terrible dehydration because of diarrhea. Diarrhea is another common killer of kids, coming in second only to pneumonia. This little 2-year-old came to the rural clinic surrounded by sugar cane fields when she was almost too sick, almost too late. But the medicine and the rehydration therapy were able to save her too.

Page 24: Pay Mercy Forward

We used the money to buy groceries to make two meals. One for our neighbors and the second for a co-worker of Ryan’s who just had a baby.

- Ryan and Kate Brumbaugh

With some friends, we prepared and served a meal for some men from Wheeler Mission.

- Peter Davis, Brittany Kiel

I brought coffee and lunch to a friend who was stuck inside with a croupy child. I also took dinner to a family in our parish who just had a baby.

- Kristen Clemmer

We used it to plan our 2nd

neighborhood cul-de-sacparty, a time to eat dinnerwith and get to know thosewho live physically close tous.

- Peter and Jenny Baenziger

Our family decided to put all our money together to feed the Tech HS football team ($120). This is a very tangible way that we can love on these kids, support the coaches, and be "family" toward these youth when many of their families aren't able to step in in this way.

I took a beloved co-worker from a previous job out to lunch. She was able to vent her frustrations which allowed me to be a listener for her.

- Justin Perry

As time passed, it came clearly to me to use it to both ease a wrong I personally committed , causing hurt feelings and ease their financial stress.

We brainstormed how to spend the total of $40 to blesssomeone. Some friends of our quickly came to mind, asthey have endured significant suffering over the pastseveral months. The loss of a job, two cancer diagnoses, and two surgeries in the last 6 months coupled withcaring for very young children has taken a toll of them.We decided to bless them with a gift card for a localrestaurant and free baby-sitting. They were thrilledafter we presented our idea to them and humblyaccepted the offer. Its a joy to see the Lord using this"abundance" money to give this couple a sweetevening together.

A New Way of Life, a ministry to the homeless and a transitional housing facility, is selling Red Panda coffee as a fundraiser. Nancy Simon bought four lbs. and is going to use the coffee now at various events and social gatherings to tell people about this ministry.

Page 38: Pay Mercy Forward

The Vanests also visited A New Way of Life to purchase Red Panda coffee from Floyd Wimbush

I noticed a woman with fabric squares stitching them together by hand. Later when driving home on E. Washington, something (Someone?) told me to stop at a Flea Market. Upon walking in, the first aisle beckoned me straight to the back where a Singer Sewing Machine sat. I purchased it for the woman I had noticed who was quilting by hand.

I bought a MOPS membership for the MOPS leaders to give away for a mother of

pre-schoolers to participate in the bi-monthly meetings at Redeemer.

- Meg Huber

Doug Kiel was able to buy a guitar to give to a child who wants to learn to play.

I will pass on my love for music, so that he/she might be able Glorify God with it.

Page 45: Pay Mercy Forward

I made thank-you bags for five volunteers and three staff at two IPS schools after they had logged 34 hours of interpreting for parent-teacher conferences.

- Amy Meyer

Our community group pooled our money to buy supplies to make welcome baskets for new residents in east side neighborhoods. We all will pass out one basked as new neighbors move in.

We received $170 in our envelopes and donated all of that to Project Love which is a ministry of Horizon Central Fellowship. Barbara was actually able to get matching funds from Aetna, the company she used to work for.

- Vernon Marsh, Barbara Van Vleet

and Adrienne Marsh

Page 47: Pay Mercy Forward

She and I and Adrienne volunteered last Sunday after church to help organize and give out food to people who came to Horizon Central . They have a distribution the 4th Sunday of every month. They also have a large clothing giveaway ministry as well.

Catham Commons located at East and St. Clair is a beautiful green space we enjoy -along with a variety of other dog-walkers, sunbathers, and picnickers. One of the orange lawn chairs went missing…

My Dad drove to work each day

English Avenue boys club on his way

Winter was coming, cold and gray

He saw the boys outside

Their hands cold as ice

Wouldn’t it be nice

To have gloves when they play.

His Chevy each year held mittens all sizes

Those boys thought they had been given prizes.

Daddy is now gone, generous and kind

But 2 daughters he raised with his love in mind.

I thank the deacons, for each year I find

Mittens and socks for those not inside.- anonymous

Now this year a few more I buyDaddy, I try…

To be generous and kind.

Vanessa and I were talking about what to do with our money from the mercy ministry, and she mentioned getting something for the kids that Luna visits. Luna is a licensed therapy dog now, and we make visits to Wheeler Mission and The Julian Center every week.

- Sandy Blanton and Vanessa Hast

Page 52: Pay Mercy Forward

I talked to the Children's Coordinator at Wheeler today and she said they wanted to take the kids on a picnic to Garfield Park over Fall Break. They were very excited to have some extra money to buy food and treats.

Our daughter, Jackie, has a couple girls that she’s friends with across the street. Their parents recently divorced and their mom is in school and working nights. The kids live with their mom at the grandparents home.

We used our money to

bring the girls to church

with us and treat them to

pizza at Bazbeaux afterwards.- the Hall family

Page 54: Pay Mercy Forward

One family who received $250 in their envelope went back and forth about an individual or an organization. In the end they did both. A young man they have mentored and walked with as he cared for his aging grandparents and his own son is being forced to move through foreclosure. The money they gave him will hopefully ease the transition.

They also gave a sum of money to a local IPS school designated toward programs that develop social and emotional skills in the students.

Page 55: Pay Mercy Forward

That is what the Greens had to decide. In the end, they

• Donated supplies to Life Centers/Crisis Pregnancy Centers

• Donated gas cards to Young Life student (college kids) leaders at Arsenal Tech

Page 56: Pay Mercy Forward

•Donated to School 15 for severe disabilities, enabling them to take 20 students on an outing to the Children’s Museum

•Donated to a program for preliminary research to assist convicts in the successful completion of probation.
