Priceless May 2014

When we heard that our little Emma won the PawPrints

Cover Model Search we were so

surprised and happy. Emma is

our little "star" and others thought so,

too!

Having always enjoyed reading

PawPrints Magazine, we

never dreamed our own rescued pet

would be on the cover. It goes without saying that it is, indeed, an honor.

We got everything ready for the big day of Emma's photo shoot at photographer Dick Parrott's

professional studio in Wilmington while Emma watched patiently. The car ride from Oak Island

went smoothly with both Emma and our rescue dog, Huckleberry, sharing the back seat. After an hour driving, we expected Emma to be a little nervous and perhaps uncooperative when it came time to pose and the camera and flash started clicking

away. We should have known that Emma, with her wise little soul, would rise to the occasion and pose like a pro! This modeling gig taught us even more

about Emma's cool personality. She and Huckleberry are a couple of hams for sure. Of

course, the antics of PawPrints editors Kelly and Diane stole the show completely as they wiggled toys, feathers and dangling objects behind our

photographer like mad, to attract Emma's attention, causing us all to laugh until tears flowed from our

eyes. It is clear, this crew has done many a successful animal photo shoot!

Our time spent with our hosts from PawPrints Magazine has created a most heartwarming

memory for us and we hope our little Emma helps more rescued pets get recognized for the special

love they have to offer. There truly is a unique story behind the rescue of each animal and the rescuers, volunteers and families who adopt them, that forms

a real circle of love.

Thank you, PawPrints Magazine for making every rescued pet a "star" and for allowing our little Emma the opportunity to represent you all in the great work

that you do to support animal rescue and to find homes for so many wonderful furever friends!

Sincerely,

Margeaux and Garry Deatsch, Jr.

Hello everyone! I am Gus, pictured on the right, and this is my sister, Libby. In our

photo, we’re enjoy-ing an outing at the beach. As a pair of abandoned Walker Hounds, we were rescued by SOAR

over four years ago. Now we are

6-years-old. We’ve made lots of good friends at SOAR

over the years, but it would sure be nice to catch a break and connect with somebody who’ll love us 24-7 for the rest of our healthy lives. We are both sweet, laid-back, friendly with other dogs, and are good with cats. We would love to find a

home together, though we are not insisting on that. Could your home be the one? If you are interested in meeting us,

call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and let’s get together!

We are sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

Hi there! My name

is Shadow. I'm a 5-

year-old, loveable and gen-tle lady cat. I

love at-tention and en-

joy snug-gling.

I'm also curious and spunky. Do you have any toys for me to play with? I get along with other cats, mostly male cats, but tend to shy away from dominant females. I get along fine with dogs, too! And yes, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I'm a total sweetheart. Would you like to meet me? Please come visit me at PetSmart in Wilmington. You're sure to love me! For

more information, you can also call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Annie Lake,

cherished family member to Doug and Lisa from the Townhouse Art & Frame Center.

Hello there, my name is Pepper. I have a sad

story to tell you, but I’m sure one day the ending

will be a happy one! You see, I was found

abandoned in a ditch in Hampstead. When I got to the vet’s office, they discovered that I

am also blind and heart-worm positive. But

wait! Just like they say, there is a silver lining to

every cloud. Mine is that I can still see shad-ows, and I have a spon-sor who is willing to pay

for my heartworm treatment. I can walk around just fine, and I tilt my head in order to see better and sense what’s around me. I would love to have a foster home where I can have peace and quiet during my recovery from the heartworm treatment. I am a very sweet boy who abso-

lutely loves all people. I do well with other dogs, too (girls especially), as long as we are introduced slowly. In fact, I

would probably benefit from another dog in the home to act as my ’seeing eye dog’. I am young, between 12 and 18-months-old, and I weigh 40 pounds. Please contact Pen-

der Humane Society if you can offer me a temporary home - or, even better, if you are interested in adoption! Their

number is 910-259-7022.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital.

There are Options in Pet Care Financing

Recently many Veterinarians and Animal Hospitals have been offering their clients a way to finance the cost of their pet’s

health care.

As you may have experienced, medical prescriptions for your

cat, physical therapy for your dog and the surgery they may require

can put a dent in your wallet.

But, when you need to provide the care, there often are not many options other than using your

credit, debit card or checkbook. If you are concerned about using your available cash, you may want to consider pet care

financing. And for Veterinarians, you may want to explore how to make this available to your clients.

Financial experts explain that this is an easy and convenient way to manage your pet care costs. With the pet care financing plans you can

handle routine or emergency care costs in a flexible and convenient way. If you are a Veterinarian or

pet owner and are looking for options in pet care financing, you can find out more by contacting:

Francis J. Kestler

BlueJacket Financial Inc. www.bluejacketfinancial.com Email: [email protected]

Phone: 312.373.3723 Mobile: 312.659.9505 Fax: 312.277.2983

We can offer financing to your clients that the other

credit companies turn down. Clients can get real time

approval and can pick the terms that fit them best.

When there is an emergency health situation for your pet, you don’t want to hesitate to

take care of it, but the emergency funds may not be

in your pocket or purse.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! Hello! Are you looking for a sweet girl, and one who will

be SO grateful to be adopted? That’s me! My name is Ladybird

(A011865) and I’m a 2-year-old Treeing Walker Coon-hound who is in desperate

need of a loving home. I’ve been at the shelter since

March 8 and time is running out. There are just too

many dogs arriving at the shelter and not enough

room for us all. I was found as a stray and am very under-weight currently at just 40 pounds. The shelter’s vet exam-

ined me and says I appear to be healthy other than my weight. My friends here are feeding me three times a day

and I do love it when visitors bring me treats! I get along well with other dogs and would be so happy to find myself in a loving home soon. Have you heard that shelter animals seem to know when they’ve been rescued and are very

grateful in return? I’m sure to prove that to you when you sign my adoption papers! The shelter is now open on Sun-days, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For

more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

Can’t wait to meet you!

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! It’s a real shame when a well-trained, family dog

like me ends up at Animal Control - I belong with a family! My name is Rex (A011877) and I once

lived with my humans but they got a job far away and when they moved they couldn’t take me.

Well, one thing is for sure, they trained me well and I’ll be such a joy to my new family! I’m house-

trained (and will use pee pads if I can’t go out),

leash-trained, I know basic commands (I’m demonstrating ’sit’ for you) and I am friendly to children, other dogs and even cats! I’m also neutered and my family made sure to take me for regular vet visits so I am

also up to date on all my vaccinations. I’m a 1½-year-old Terrier who wants to be part of a loving family for life! You’ll be so glad you adopted a friendly fellow like me. The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t

come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender

County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. Let’s go home!

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has

rescued a homeless animal.

What’s it like being the most

interesting hound in the world? I live vicariously

through myself, and I have won

the Lifetime Basset Achieve-

ment Award twice. Stars

wish upon me – I’m Chester. A pleasure for you

to meet me, I’m sure. My spots of chestnut hair depict a map of a chain of exotic islands that you’ve never been to, pack your bags my friend. I’m waiting. Debonair looks on an available Hound...will wonders never cease? Load up the treat jar and fluff my bed - it’s time for you to be in the presence of greatness. Tell Carolina Basset Hound Res-cue that you want to learn more about me. I may have a little more going on medically speaking than I would like,

but hopefully nothing that will keep me from a happily ever after. Ask about me today. To make me a member of your

family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster

homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, please contact CBHR for more details.

How can anyone resist these sweet eyes staring up so

innocently, so trust-ingly? Can you hear

my silent plea? “Please adopt me!” My name is Bella and I was part of a

loving home for nine years, but my family

moved away and was unable to take me with them. The good thing about a dog my age is that

I’m full of knowledge and love and I’m

ready to move right on in with my new family! I’m already house-trained, I

walk on a leash like a dream, and I know commands. In my photo, you can see what I look like after being told to ‘lay down’. Of course, I also sit on command as well! I am great with everyone: men, women, children, other

dogs and yes, even cats! They tell me I’m a Lab/Beagle mix which makes me a nice small size. If you’d like to

bring me into your heart and home, I hope you’ll call Pen-der Humane Society at 910-259-7022. I’m so sweet and

affectionate and I’m waiting for you!

I am sponsored by Mrs. Frances Johnson as a gift from her grandchildren. Thank you!

►Just look at my sweet face! My name is Chelsea and I am a wonderful middle aged

girl. I am super healthy and passed my vet

exam with flying colors. I’ve been spayed and

I’m current on vaccina-tions. I am wonderful

with other animals and kids, too. I walk well

on a leash and am pretty laid-back and easy. All I need is a nice bed to sleep on

and someone to love me. I am mid-sized at

approximately 35 pounds. Any takers?

►Hi! My name is

JayJay and I am a super little guy. I

weigh about 15 pounds but I am chubby! I

do well with other animals

and I’m an overall friendly

little guy. I would make a

great little apartment dog. People who know me absolutely love me and cannot understand why I have not been scooped up

yet. Must be because I am waiting for YOU!

◄My name is Naomi and I am a super sweet Pitbull. I was used for breeding and when my owner was done with me, he kept one of my puppies and took me to Ani-mal Control. Real stand up

guy, you know? I am a good dog and I’m looking for a good

forever home this time! I promise to shower you with doggie kisses and uncondi-tional love. I am vaccinated

and have been spayed, so no more puppies for me! I am currently living with another

dog in my foster home so I seem to do well with other dogs. I will need to go to someone with experience with my breed.

◄My name is Ody. I am 10-years-YOUNG and am homeless due to my owner's failing health. I am house-trained, friendly and super sweet. I get along well with other ani-mals and am super friendly. I am a Dachshund and I am calling all Doxy lov-ers!!! I love being babied and really want my own home again. My foster family describes me as a dream. Please adopt me.

◄My name is Mesha. I am a

sweet, laid- back, and quiet girl. I would be a great addition to any home. I am very well

mannered and gentle, and an all-around love bug!! I seem to

do well with anyone and

everything. I have that grateful stray spirit and will just love you unconditionally if you give me a chance.

►My name is Flossie Mae and

I am a friendly Walker Hound mix. I was rescued from a rural shelter with no foot traffic the day I ran out of

time. I am really worth it. A lot of people moved

Heaven and Earth to save me. I am great with other

animals, kids and have such a gentle

spirit. If you will just spend some time with me, you will fall in love with me. I am around 35 to 40 pounds so I am a perfect mid-sized

family pet searching for that special family.

SMALL DOG ALERT! Hello,

PawPrints readers! You are looking at me, Cagney. I’m a precious Whippet mix

girl. At just 10-months-old and

under 15 pounds, I’m a petite pup who is sweet as pie. I may seem a bit shy at first, but it doesn’t take long for

me to warm up to a friendly word and a kind hand. I

have a playful, affectionate personality and I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. You’ll

never believe this, but I was running out of time at another shelter when Pender Humane Society took me in.

Perhaps I was saved just for you? Adopt me and feel the love! To arrange a meeting or to ask any questions,

please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day!

Hello! I’m a big, cuddly boy named Otis and I need a lov-ing home. You see, my owner passed

away and I sure do

miss being part of a

family. I’m very sweet

and I welcome attention,

whether it’s kisses on my face or kind hands on my fur. I

get along with other kitties - in fact, my friend Buttons came to the shelter with me and is pictured on page 31. I’m already

neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All I need is a human companion to make me happy again. Wouldn’t you

enjoy spending your days with an affectionate lap-buddy like me? Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022

and tell them you’d like to bring me home.

Look at these amaz-ing ears! My name is

Chuck and at 9-months of age, I’m looking for my forever home. I was rescued by Pine Valley Animal

Hospital 3-months ago. I was found on

the streets with a broken leg. They fixed my leg, neutered me and brought me up to date on vacci-nations. I am a very adorable and sweet

boy. I have even been through puppy training class. I’m being fostered right

now and share my foster home with other dogs and cats. Please call R.A.C.E. at

910-547-2839 to adopt me.

Sponsored in loving memory of Roxy.

Hello everyone! You might remember me - I'm Brady (A069204), a 2-year-old, neutered Plott Hound. I was adopted awhile ago

and have somehow found myself back here - I guess

that family just wasn't ready to have me. Fortunately, I still have faith that true love

is out there. Inside my handsome brindle exterior, there waits an intelligent, loyal and friendly soul. I

just need the RIGHT family who will help me to flourish and show what an amazing

best friend I can be. I'm not perfect...yet. Just like you, I need patience when I make mistakes and guidance in how

to do better. I'm a quick learner when I have a good teacher, and I know that somewhere out there, I have a

family. Please help me find them! For driving directions or more information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal

Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in loving memory of Maya. No one can ever love you like

a rescued pet.

Hello, friends, my name is Bailey! I’m a

6-year-old, spayed female Bloodhound and I have a very

sweet and happy dis-position. I lost my

home when my own-ers moved away, so I’m hoping someone reading this will want a gorgeous girl like me to light up their life! I am friendly to kids and I like cats.

I’m used to living and sleeping in the house with my family, and I

also enjoy playing outdoors in a fenced-in yard. I can sit on command and am happy to meet all new people. I give folks at the shelter the impression that I will settle in well

anywhere. It’s obvious that I would love companionship to enjoy. I do weigh in at 120 pounds so that will have to be a consideration in my new home. For adoption information, call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 .

named after the capi-tal of Alaska because

I was found aban-doned on a country road during the ice

storm. I was soaking wet, cold, hungry,

and had frostbite on my ears and feet but

recovered quickly with some TLC. I'm

a female Walker Hound mix, approxi-mately 1 to 2-years-old, spayed, up to

date on shots, house-trained, and very healthy. I love to

run! I'm very active and playful and

would love to have a fenced yard and another dog for a companion. I'm great

with kids, cats, and other dogs, although I do have a bit of an issue with food guarding and prefer to be fed alone so no one will steal my dinner! I'm learning house manners

and am very smart, loving, and willing to please, I just need a little guidance learning indoor rules because everything

is so new to me. My foster mom would love to tell you more about me, or arrange a meeting. Please call her at

910-259-5076. Give me a chance and you won't be sorry!

Hi there! I'm Edward. Nice to meet you! I am a beautiful boy who

enjoys playing with balls and any team sport where my pals chase the

same ball as I do. Speaking of pals, this is my

best friend, Baby. Just like me, she loves to play with balls and toys so we have a great

time together. We are looking for-

ward to cuddling and peace and

quiet with you. All we need is a lov-ing home where we feel safe, so

that our affection-ate personalities can bloom and

blossom. Naturally, we would love to be adopted together as we have grown really fond of each other. Come visit us

at Petsmart in Wilmington. It won’t be long before you have two new best friends! For more information, you can

also call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014.

We are sponsored by ECM Corporation. Thank you!

Cat Tails

◄I want in on this, too. My name is Layla and I’m named after Layla Ali, the boxer. You know why? Because my feet are soooo big. Most cats have 18 toes, but I have 24! So, I’m really un-usual since I’m front and back polydactyl. Besides that, I’m a beautiful Cal-ico who is already spayed and up to date on vaccinations. I get along with the other cats and I love people. So, if you want a really unusual cat, come get me or one of my friends. We all de-serve forever homes with loving families.

◄Those orange cats think they’re

special? Well take a look at me, Gina. I am

a 3-year-old, pastel Calico

with bright blue eyes. Yup, you

read that correctly, blue eyes! I am often overlooked be-cause I am so quiet. I get along well with the other cats but as unique as I am, well, probably I should be treated like one of a kind. Anyway, if you want a sweet cat that

everyone will have to talk about, I’m your kitty.

►As long as we’re doing special cats,

I’m adding my name, Sebastian. They say I’m pretty big, but heck, I’ve

got extra to support that weight! That’s correct, extra toes, polydactyl as they say scientifically.

And I’m front declawed! Do you think they had to pay extra for my extra toes? I’m very

shy as you can tell from my picture, and sometimes I hide, but just shake the treat bag and I’ll show up. I am sweet

and I love to cuddle, so you’ll need a big lap, or a king size bed to make sure there is enough room for me!

►And last but not least…Colleen. I have the most

white of the three, but still a lot of orange. I am about 18-

months-old and considered the most quiet of us three. I

do suffer from an allergy, but who doesn’t when you live in

the south! They say mine is a food allergy so I have my own special food, no one else can eat it! It is not a prescription

food so it isn’t really much more expensive. And with

everyone trying to eat healthy, I’m just ahead of the game.

►Up first…Wendy. I am about 1-year-old and I’m

orange with white paws and white chest. I think I am part

dog because I love to play fetch. Yes, you heard that correctly, if you throw the

right kind of kitty ball, I will go get it and bring it right back to you! Talk about

endless fun. And on top of that, I love to snuggle. So

once playtime is over, it’s my naptime, ideally on your lap.

◄Next on the list…Aster. I am an all-orange kitty and I’m about 18-months-old. I don’t play catch because that is just foolish for a cat. I am more refined than that. I love to sit on my throne and look over my country. Or in other words, sit on the couch and look over the house. So if you want a sweet, royal kitty, I’m your choice. I’m al-ready spayed and I’m cur-rent on vaccinations, too!

Orange Female Cats!

You are reading that correctly. We know orange females are fairly rare. Usually, only about 1 in

every 100 orange cats is female. Well, look here, there are three of us:

My name is Willow and I’m praying that I’ll be adopted and

have the opportunity to live a life full of

love and happiness. I like being rubbed, actually I crave it - I LOVE IT! It makes

me purr with delight. I’m not great at pos-ing for pictures but I am the most loving cat in the shelter right now. I’m a 2-year-old Calico girl who has been spayed and vacci-nated. I was found

as a stray by a really nice family. They took care of

me for a few months but couldn’t keep me. If you would like to know more info about me or to inquire about the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. You may

visit us at www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

When you come to Paw’s Place, ask for the “cute girl

with the green eyes.” That’s me, Maggie. Yes, I’m a Pit mix, but I’m

really not that big – maybe

about 40 pounds. My

owner surren-dered me

when I was a puppy because he realized he didn’t have time for me. I’m very affectionate with people and some

dogs, too! If you have another pet, I think we should meet first. Paw’s Place thinks that it would be a good idea for

me to be crate-trained, until I know the rules of the house. It would also be great if you had a fenced-in yard where I could run around and play. What do you think – can we play together? Stop by Paw’s Place and let’s talk. Call

910-845-7297 if you need driving directions. We’re open every day from 9am-Noon!

I am sponsored in loving memory of

◄It’s my first day at the shelter so I’m getting

used to the sights and sounds! My name is Daisy and I hope that my new family will be

coming to get me before too long. I’m a 4-month-old girl who is very sweet and loving. I play well with other dogs and I have no

problem at all with cats. I ride well in the car, I

enjoy playing fetch and I’m used to sleeping in

my crate at night. I enjoy playing in a

fenced yard and am friendly to kids. Won’t you come see if I’m your new girl?

◄Well, hello there! If you’re looking for a fun and friendly companion, you’ve come to the right place! My name is Honey and I’m an 8-month-old, female Lab mix who is spayed. In my former home, I got along great with the kids who were ages 1 and 8. I play well with other dogs, but I’ve never had the chance to meet a cat. I slept in a crate inside the house at night. Come visit me!

◄Scruffy Terrier Alert! My name is Scruffles and I’m told that I’m one of the cutest little dogs around. What do you think? At just 6-months-old and a light 19 pounds, I’m a perfect little female sidekick for some lucky person or family. I play well in a fence and want to live indoors with my folks. I get along well with all other dogs and am crate-trained. Is there a loving person out there who wants to give me their heart?

►It’s been six months since my brother was adopted and I’m still waiting for a home!

Where are all the people who love orange Tabby

boys? Well, I’m managing to make the best of things with my

upbeat, friendly personality and I’ve

become pals with the other kitties here. If you have a feline at home,

I bet I’d be buddies with him or her, too! I’m a

10-month-old darling who you can name after my

adoption. Come on over and fall in love with me!

Spot ►I was found as a stray, but I’m such a

friendly and loving girl! Folks think my owners

might have moved away and left me, which is a real shame. My name

is Kitty and I’m a young girl at just 3-years-old. I

get along just fine with other cats and I even

am happy around dogs. I’m in great health and I also have a carrier that comes with me. I’m a sweetheart, adopt me!

◄Hello! My name is Rocco and I’m a little boy, just 2-years-old. In my photo, I’m relaxing in my kitty condo. Since I’m used to living indoors, I’ll be happy to do this at your house! I also love to play with the other kitties here. Yes indeed, I’m a very friendly, healthy and loving lap cat who is ready to make you feel adored. All you have to do is adopt me!

Hey! My name is Seamus and I’m

about 5-months-old. Have you ever seen a

St. Bernard and a Blue Tick Hound mix? Well, now you have and ain’t I just the

cutest? I am part of the Irish group cur-rently being trained here at Pender Cor-

rectional Institution by the Pawsitive Part-

ners Prison Program. Which fits because

apparently I have the luck of the Irish being saved by Monty’s home and all. I have been neutered, am up to date on all shots and on

heartworm prevention. To find out more about making me your own lucky charm, call 910-297-1338 or email

◄If you overlook me because of my “average” appearance and

black fur, you are making a HUGE mistake. My name is Hendrix (A302896) and I’m a neutered and vaccinated boy.

I’m good on a leash, I know how to sit and lay down on command,

I take treats gently, I’m well-mannered and don’t play too

rough, I have a wonderful tem-perament, and I will sit or lay by

your feet while I play with a toy. I know how to play fetch and while we play tug-o-war, I obey “get it”

and “drop it” commands. I’m very engaging, intelligent, social and highly trainable. There are so many other wonderful traits and behaviors to tell you

about but there isn’t enough room on this page...

◄Hello! I’m the purrfect companion you’ve been looking for! My name is Fred (A303388) and I’m a 1-year-old neutered boy who is current on vaccina-tions and litter-trained. I was brought to the shelter as a stray with hopes of finding a forever home. I love to play with toys, I love to talk, I love being rubbed and petted, I love explor-ing, I love purring and I love being held. All you need is love...and me!

►I am a gorgeous long-haired girl named

Gloria (A302894). I’m a real sweetheart and I love having my

long hair brushed. I’m 2-years-old, spayed

and vaccinated. I was found as a stray and I'm completely over-whelmed by my cur-

rent situation. I need and deserve a safe

and loving home with a family who will cher-ish me! I’m good with

children, dogs and other cats.

►Some people make fun of my overbite and I don’t think that’s very nice. My name is Rocky (A302892) and I hope you’ll judge me

based on my wonderful spirit and loving heart. My family moved and couldn’t take me with them. I’m a 3-year-old, neutered Lab mix who knows how to sit

and lay down on com-mand. I take treats gently,

I’m a great listener, I’m good on a leash and I’m

eager to please. I’m a big lover of toys and I crave

feeling loved again. I pray for the chance to live a long, happy life in a home where I’ll

never be viewed as disposable again.

◄My name is Roland (A302872) and I’m a Ger-man Shepherd mix with brindle fur. I’m just a little over 1-year-old and de-scribed as a “real gentle-man”. My owners brought me to the shelter when they could no longer care for me. I know how to sit on com-mand, I love to snuggle and make you feel loved, and I have a short, nubby tail that I like to wag like mad! I’m leash-trained, neutered and vaccinated.

►My name is Veronica (A303251). My owner fell

on hard times and ended up being incarcerated. So, now

I’m here at the shelter. Some may think I’m also being incarcerated but I

don’t look at it that way at all! My glass is half full!

This is my second chance to find a loving, forever home. I’m a 2-year-old, Australian Cattle Dog and Pointer mix. I’m a happy and goofy girl who loves life and is ready for family adventures. My

new home should have toys, toys and a few more toys because I love them! Balls,

stuffed ones, squeaky ones, chew toys...ALL are great to me! Please consider adopting a loving girl like me!

Hi, my name is

Mary Pearl and

I am a delightful girl of 1 to 2-years of age, 45 pounds, 22” tall, 30” long with such a sweet

personal-ity...so I

have been told many

times over. I

live in a home on a farm with my foster parents and love children, adults, playing ball, tug of war and going for walks. Here at my foster home, I play well with the other dogs and

cats. I am also very smart, so naturally I am house and crate-trained. I am spayed, heartworm negative and all my

vaccinations are up to date. I was abandoned with 7 puppies on a back road with no food or shelter, but I managed to care for my puppies by foraging for food and keeping them under an old trailer. I was rescued with my puppies and with the

help of Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare, the pup-pies are now in wonderful homes. I need a fenced yard,

good companionship and a forever loving family. For more information, please call 910-324-1650. You can submit an

adoption application online at www.oc-paw.com.

I am sponsored by Dotty Harding. Thank you!

My name is Minnie. I am so lucky that a young man saw that I needed help. He brought me to Paw’s Place. I’m rather small, a Jack Russell mix, and I weigh about 18 pounds. When you first meet me, I like for you to come

down to my level – that way I’m not afraid of you and I get used to you more easily. Once we get to know each other

(really just a few minutes), you can see that I relax and then I’m extremely affectionate. Belly rubs are a favorite for me.

My tests show that I am healthy – including being heart-worm negative, but I’ll be rechecked in six months just to be

sure. Hope you are looking for a small dog with a great personality – that’s me! Come visit me at the shelter any day from 9am to Noon. You can also call Paw’s Place at

910-845-7297 for adoption information or driving directions.

◄I’m Shelby, and I am Sugar Pie’s

sister. Although we were born here, my story is different. I was adopted, but

something happened in my family and

they returned me to Paw’s Place on

Christmas Eve in 2012. Everyone

says that I’m the perfect dog. I’m house-trained and know the basic house rules. Volunteers say that I’m a true love-bug – I really do love people. I get along with other dogs,

but it just depends – just like with people! I’m now 7½-years-young and I’m healthy, have lots of pep in my step and love to go for walks. The kennel is open every day from 9am to Noon, so you can come meet me any day.

“My face may be white, but my heart is pure gold. There is no shame in

growing old.”

These are the senior dogs of Paw’s Place. Won’t you give them a chance at a home to call their own? They are all healthy and just want to be loved!

◄My name is Sugar Pie. Yes, I am a more mature dog, but that is what makes me extra special.

You see, I was born here at Paw’s Place. I was hand-fed by volunteers, and I grew accus-tomed to being around people and am very loving and affec-tionate. I was the only one of my litter not adopted. I often

wonder what it would be like to have my very own family! It

sure would be nice to get out of unpredictable weather and al-ways be comfortable no matter

what the temperature may be. I know how to mind my manners and behave in the house. I’m a Blue Tick

Hound mix who loves people. Come visit me at Paw’s Place. You can come any day, from 9am to Noon.

◄My name is Velvet! They gave me that

name so people would realize that I am as soft as velvet when given

the chance. I’ve spent most of my life at Paw’s Place. Born in 2005, I was less than 2-years-old when I arrived. I

was found chained to a tree and had no clue as

to what life could be like. Sometimes I act a little tough when you go

by my kennel. But that’s an act – I am a real marshmallow when I am out

and about. I am very affectionate and loving and love to go on walks. I know that the right person or family is

out there for me. We just haven’t found each other yet!

◄I’m a Shepherd/Lab mix named Tybee. Because

I've been here a while now, I'm a little shy around

new people. Why don’t people think of me? Is it

because I am a black dog? I’m told that black dogs tend to get overlooked. You would think they

would notice my ears - one is a little floppy. I think it makes me look special. I was born in

2005 so that makes me 9-years-young! My friends here think that I would do really well with one person - you know, be a companion. I'm very

loving and loyal. One of my favorite things to do is to be walked on a leash. Although I get along with other dogs

here (Wheelie is my buddy), I am not sure how I would get along with another dog, but I sure am willing to give it a chance. What about you? You know where to find me!

◄Hi, I’m Wheelie, and I do have a free- wheeling personality.

I can also be calm and I love humans. My beginnings were sad. I was shot and

abandoned and I was brought to

Paw’s Place in 2007. Apparently I still

have a little buckshot in my back leg, but

you wouldn’t know it. I’m very gentle and sociable. I’d like a quiet place where I can just curl up at my human’s feet and relax. I walk well on a leash – maybe we could

even go for evening strolls!

My markings make it look like I have white socks on my feet! My name is Tessie and I’m a female Hound mix who weighs

about 35 pounds. When I was rescued, I had heartworms and was very skinny. I’m not skinny anymore and I’ve been retested for heartworms and I’m free and clear. Yeah! That

means I’m really healthy. I am energetic and like to run around. A fenced-in yard where I could play would be great. Oh, and did I tell you, I love kids! I still have some puppy in me but would be the bestest girl if you gave me a chance. I just had my second birthday – it sure would be nice if I could

celebrate my third birthday in my forever home! You can drop by to meet me any day from 9am – Noon. You can also

Hi! My name is Poky, as I guess I re-semble the adorable

puppy in the famous chil-

dren’s book. I probably act a

lot like him too, as I am a very curious

girl who checks out

everything! I was found wandering around at

night and a kind lady

stopped and took me into her car. I am about 18-months-old, 45 pounds, up to date on all my shots, spayed, heart-

worm and parasite free and even have a microchip. Am I the whole package or what? I love to play and run outside with my friends at my foster home and also snuggle up when in-

side. I am well-behaved and I can sit, lie down and roll over. I like to play with other dogs as long as I can be the boss!

And yes, I am house-trained. I need a forever home where I will be loved and can give love back! Please call my foster

mom at 815-871-3181 to meet me.

◄I was featured on this page last month! Please come see about me! My name is Rock Star (A011705) and I’m a 2-year-old boy who is simply stunning with my fluffy long hair and my relaxed attitude toward life. Wanna hold me? Go right ahead. Kisses and cuddles are good, too. So why on earth don’t I have a home? All I want is love.

NOW OPEN ON SUNDAYS! 1pm to 4pm

Please Adopt! WE’RE OVERCROWDED AND NEAR CAPACITY.

◄Kitten Season is most

definitely underway and I am just one of many waiting for a

home in shelters around the country!

My name is Emma (A011997) and this black beauty is my mother, Missy (A011995). I

and my three brothers (A011996, A011998, A011999) are just 4-weeks-old and still nursing from our mom. We hope you’ll come meet us and

hold us. We’ll be weaned soon and ready to share your life. Our mom is a sweetheart - just like her kittens!

◄Precious Puppy Alert! Hi there, my name is Lil’ Joe (A012026) and I’m a gem! At my young age of just 16-weeks-old, I already sit on command like a champ and am very attentive, smart and trainable. I’m sooo friendly and sooo happy, despite being homeless. I wandered up to a house as a stray and played well with the other dogs there. Now I’m here, hoping to soon make a person or family very happy. Please come meet me!

►I’m almost too precious for words! You’ve just got

to come meet me in person. My name is

Buttercup (A011993) and I’m a 10-week-old Terrier mix girl with the sweetest,

most cuddly personality. When I came to the

shelter as a stray I was very dehydrated, but after

some TLC I was back in great health, bouncing

around and being a playful puppy! Will you be the one to take me home?

►Bring a loveable, kissable, fun-loving

puppy into your life! We are two

adorable brothers

who would be up for the

job. We do not have to be adopted together, we can be adopted separately. Our names are Mac (A011673) and Jack (A011674) and we came to the shelter on March 7.

That’s too long for too fabulous boys like us to be homeless! We are very sweet and happy and we walk well on a leash. Won’t you consider giving one of us a home? The love of your life could be waiting right here for you!

◄Have you ever seen such a gorgeous, fluffy boy in your life? I doubt it! I’m Ringo (A011915) and I’m as smart as I am handsome! I can sit on command and I’m such a sweetheart to people. At 4-years-old, I’m an Australian Shepherd mix who would love a fenced yard (or farm) to play in, and a house where I can cuddle inside with my family. You’ll just love me!

◄They tell me I’m more like a loyal puppy than a kitty cat! You see, I adore being with humans and will happily snuggle in their arms (check out my photo) or cuddle in their lap. I like to be with my people and will follow them in the house. I’m not underfoot, I just like to keep you company. My name is Tango and I’m a handsome orange boy who will be your best, most loving friend!

◄Hi there, my name is Buttons! I’m a big, beautiful boy who welcomes loving attention from humans. I curl my face into your palm and purr. My loving owner passed away unexpectedly and now I’m looking for another home. I’m neutered, up to date on shots and great in the litterbox. I’d be an affectionate companion for some very lucky person. Visit me today!

◄I’m a loving and friendly Calico girl named Pieces! I’m super-affectionate, social, a purring ma-chine and I get along great with other cats! Someone treated me very well at some point in my life and you can benefit from it by adopting me and taking me home! I would love to be a companion again. Family life was defi-nitely made for me.

▲Two adorable puppies are waiting! We are Rufus and Sawyer, darling brothers who were found at

Animal Control. We are Boxer mixes, just 18-weeks-old and we are playful, happy, fun-loving and

extremely affectionate to everyone we meet. Do yourself a favor and bring a puppy into your life!

►I’m a Family Dog in need of a family! My name is

Daisy and I already have everything it takes to be a

loving and loyal companion to you and your kin. I’m

house-trained, which is al-ways a plus, and I’m leash-trained, too. Taking me for walks is a pure joy because

I ‘stroll’ when I’m out, I never pull or give you any trouble. Oh, I’m also very

well trained. Just tell me to ‘sit’ or ‘lay down’ and I’ll do

it. Isn’t it a shame for a great dog like me to be alone? Please let me be your sweet girl. I’m wonderful!

◄This is your lucky day! Want to know

why? Because I’m a darling puppy and I’m looking for you! My

name is Morena and I’m a very smart, fun and friendly girl who

is ready to play fetch. Yes, I will get the ball and bring it back to

you! I also walk well on a leash and can sit on command! At just 19-weeks-old, I have so many happy days and years to share with you. I’m good

with other dogs and just want the chance to be loved!

The Judges’ Decisions Are In: Winning Cover Cat and Runners-Up

Winning Cover Cat “Emma”

Submitted by: Margeaux Deatsch

As I walked home from the beach one April morning in 2012, I stopped to talk to a friend. A loud, insistent “Mmmrreow!” came from nowhere as we stood chatting by the road. I looked around, expecting to see a large cat behind me, but saw nothing. “Mmmmrreow!” came the call once again. I turned around look-ing down this time, and there at my feet was itsy bitsy Emma, so tiny and black, announcing herself and demanding a mama to take her home, since her real mama was gone for sometime. This tiny black kitten, smaller than a beanie baby stuffed toy, had come from the woods and crossed the street to approach me for help. Poor little Emma could fit in a teacup and had legs as thin as my pinky. She had barely a sparse coat of black fur, was cov-ered with ringworm and infested with fleas, but a voice the size of the sun. We went to Dr. King at Oak Island Animal Hospital for a checkup and medication and took Emma home to quaran-tine for 30 days. She was bathed daily to rid her tiny body of fleas and medicated to eradicate the ringworm. Her room had a glass door through which our four resident cats could see her and that's how she fell in love with Luna who is one year older. She

spent her days basking in the sun on a windowsill and am-bushing our feet as she hid her entire tiny body behind the leg of the piano. Day by day, Emma became plump and healthy and her new fur re-vealed an itsy bitsy white bikini on her black belly. Finally quarantine ended and Emma could come out and meet her housemates. We opened the door and Emma leaped into Luna's embrace, wrapping her tiny legs around Luna's neck and best friends were born. Emma grew healthy and sleek but never as big as other cats. She is still very small compared to other adult cats and jumps to the highest surface available to give us kisses and observe all interesting activity. She refuses to be pushed aside and stands her tiny bit of ground with the bravery of a great and proud warrior. We have learned from Emma that every creature, no matter how small, has earned her place in the world and she glows with love and pride for winning her brave fight to survive.

1st Runner-Up

“Vixen” Submitted by: Kelly Widenhouse

This is sweet Vixen. We adopted her from the Pender County Humane Society 2 days before Christmas. My 10-year-old has begged for a cat for 2-years and we finally gave in. Having never owned a cat we were not sure what to expect, but boy is she silly. It took her a few days, okay, maybe weeks to get used to our crazy house but now she gives our Golden Retriever a run for her money. Vixen thinks the dog's tail is a toy, as well as anything else that crosses her path. One night around 3am, we were awoken to her playing the piano. All we could do is laugh! We are so glad we could give her a forever home. She has given us plenty of laughs and given my kids a sense of responsibility.

2nd Runner-Up

“Ali” Submitted by: Stephen Abarno

I have had cats all my life. My last cat died just over 5-years ago. She was 19 1/2-years-old. I work at Bugs Etc. and the owner Kevin Snyder and his wife Kim adopted a Siamese mix kitten from Adopt-An-ANGEL. The kitten was on the PawPrints July 2013 cover. The Snyder’s already had a dog and then got two more kittens for the household. The Siamese mix kitten developed respiratory issues and couldn’t stay at the house. She was brought to the store - Bugs Etc. - as a store cat. I really liked her and didn’t think she belonged at the store. So I adopted her and named her Ali, short for Alessandra. Ali’s respiratory issues went away at my house. Now comes the awe-some part of this story. I told my brother, Mi-chael, I got another cat and showed him the pictures and told him the story about Ali. Mi-

chael then told me that Ali was one of four kittens born under his shed in his back yard. He gave them to Adopt-An-ANGEL. He showed me the pictures he took of them to prove this was true. It is awesome how God works in people’s lives, to go from my brother to Adopt-An-ANGEL to the owner where I work and then to me. I have missed having a cat in my home these 5-years. Ali is such a beautiful kitten and so much fun. This story is why Ali should be the Cover Girl kitten for this 12th Annual Search.

3rd Runner-Up “Hercules”

Submitted by: Tiffany Harris

This is my rescue cat Hercules. I rescued him from the Pender County Animal Shelter. He had been there for 3-months and was close to being put down to make room for new cats. He is such a sweet boy and loves attention. I am so much more happy with him around. He has really bumped up my life. I don't know what I would do if I had not gotten him.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE DUO

“Buddy & Price” Submitted by: Sara Gerald,

Jay Gerald & Melinda Bowman

Meet Buddy (black and tan Coon-hound) and Price (black and white long-hair kitty)! Buddy came to me October 31, 2010 when a nice couple found him running loose but they couldn’t keep him and they brought him to Petco where I volunteer with Adopt-An-ANGEL and begged for someone to take him. I saw him and fell in love. He was a little shy but when they opened the back of their van he slowly came to me, wagging his tail. I decided to take him home and try to find his owner, but no one claimed him. He was covered in ticks and wasn’t neu-

tered so I gave him a bath and picked the ticks off of him. After the ten days was up and no one claimed him, I took him to the vet and got him neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm tested. He had Lyme disease and was heartworm positive. He is such an amazing dog, he loved my cats and I never had a problem with him. When I found out he had heartworms we decided to treat him and adopt him. Adopting him was the best decision we ever made. Since I volunteer with Adopt-An-ANGEL, I am bringing home fosters all the time and he always accepts them even if they don’t accept him. He always puts a smile on my face and will see me and just want to cuddle on my lap even though he is 70 pounds, he is my big baby. Well, on May 25, 2013 I brought home a little 3-week old kitten someone found off Oleander Drive and brought to Petco. It was two days before my dad’s birthday and my mother was home sick. I brought the little guy home and my parents fell in love and bottle fed him. This was their new baby, they spoil him more than they ever spoiled me and it’s adorable. It makes me happy to see them with this little cat. Well, as he got older, we noticed a few problems. He didn’t reach two pounds until he was 3-months-old, he was breathing weird, his third eye lid was showing, and his breath also smelled. He got neutered when he hit the two pound

mark and was going to the vet all the time to figure out what was wrong. We tried multiple things to see what was going on with him and had him tested for FIV and he was negative. Till this day he still does cough and breathe weird but we came to the conclusion maybe it’s because he was so young when we found him and was outside. Buddy would always baby him and they became friends instantly and they sleep together every night with my other indoor rescue cat Bella. Buddy and Price have made a huge difference on our lives and we wouldn’t know what to do without them. They make great examples of res-cues and how it takes patience and time but it will all be worth it. I bring them to events to show people how amazing res-cues are and how everyone should adopt!

It’s me, Brad Pitt!

No, not the movie star from

Holly-wood. I’m the better-

looking one from the Wil-mington

area! I’m a 3-year-

old Pit Bull Ter-rier mix who has

been taking obedience classes. I’m super-smart and will do well with a family who is familiar with the bully breed. I would be happiest in a home with a docile female dog. A quiet, stable home environment would also be great! I am

simply a sweet, sweet boy and will make a wonderful companion for the right family. For adoption info, email

Sunburst Foundation at [email protected] or call 910-622-0011.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Hank Harrington.

Since before Christ-mas last year, I was living life as a stray. I had been hanging around this apart-

ment complex when someone scooped me up and brought me to the shelter.

I’m a neutered and vaccinated boy who is named Sammy.

I’m quite handsome and have long black

hair. I’m social, I enjoy exploring, I

like to cuddle and I love being touched. My new family must promise to love me and keep me safe

and must also be willing to brush me so that my fur doesn't become knotted. If you would like to know more info about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, call

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us!

◄Hey there! I am Lyla, a female Boxer mix, 3-years-old. I am very athletic and don’t mind going to a home with humans who like to be active. A home with another friendly dog like me would be right up my alley, too! I am also very smart – I can sit, shake and give kisses. All these qualities and sweet to boot, yet over two years here and nobody seems to want me. I don’t get it. I’m a gem waiting to be found!

►I'm Barbara and I’m the cutest puppy

EVER! I just came to SOAR with my brother

Buddy (he's pictured beside me). We are

sad that we had to leave our Dad, but he was seriously injured and could no longer

take care of us. I am a spayed Terrier mix,

9-months-old and vac-cinated. I even have a microchip! It would be

nice to be adopted with my bro Buddy - but it's

ok if you just want to take one of us!

◄▲We are Oliver and Onyx and we are waiting to meet

you! We have been at SOAR since we were born! We had

another brother, Othello - but he found his forever home and now we are waiting for ours! We are both very affec-tionate and love to sit in your lap and be petted. We don't have to be adopted together - but two is better than one! We are neutered, up to date on our shots, and good with other cats. Most importantly, we’ll be your best friend!!!!

►My name is Fonzie and I am one cool dude! I may be a little

short, but don't hold that against me! I am about 5-years-old and I’m a Bea-gle mix. Laid-back and very affection-ate is how most of

the volunteers describe me. Oh -

and of course ADORABLE! I love to play with tennis balls and my other favorite thing is to be petted. I am a

very family-oriented dog who is smart and eager to please.

►Hello! I'm Buddy and I just came to SOAR with

my sister Barbara. (She’s in the photo next

to mine.) I am 9-months-old, neutered and up to date on my shots. I also

have a microchip! I weigh about 25 pounds and may get a little big-ger, but not too much!

Love should be my middle name, because there's nothing better than getting love and GIVING love. I am pretty good at both!! Barbara and I

both love to play outside in a fenced yard but we are used to sleeping inside at night. If you can make that happen - I am ready to make your home - MY home! See you soon!

◄I don't consider myself old - I consider myself an antique. And you KNOW that antiques only get better and more valuable with age! I'm Madison and I am 12-years-old. All I want is a nice comfy place to complete my final years. SOAR is nice and I get lots of attention - but nothing would be better than to snooze in a sunny window or snuggle in a warm lap and get lots of love. Please come visit me!

◄Hi, my name is Rusty! I’m a

2-year-old boy who appears to be a Jack Russell/Hound mix. I am very sweet. I’m also friendly to my

canine buddies and I love my people! I am somewhat shy, but my friends tell me obedi-

ence training will increase my self-

confidence. I weigh around 45 pounds, am up to date on shots and I’m crate-

training and house-training well. Let’s get together!

◄Wheee, wanna play with me? My name is Lola and I’m a 6-year-old

Shepherd/Lab mix. I am a sweet-loving gal and I generally get along well with docile male dogs. I love to run and play

in the yard and snuggle inside with my humans. I am

house-trained, crate-trained, up to date on vaccines

and on heartworm prevention. I do take glucosamine but, as you can

see, I get around just fine! When you adopt me, I will come to you with a microchip. Let’s go home!

◄Hello, my name is Tanner! I’m a 2-year-old English Setter/American Bull Dog mix. I am quiet, gentle, house-trained and crate-trained. My tail wags incessantly when I hear a familiar voice. I am up to date on shots, neutered, microchipped and heartworm nega-tive. I am a beautiful dog and will make someone a wonderful companion. ◄I’m Rosie, a won-derful, small-sized girl who would love to be part of your family! At a mere 35 pounds and 6-years-old, I’m a Pug/Chow mix who is smart and friendly. I adore children and am friendly to adult hu-mans also! I’m great with cats and I get along well with doc-ile male dogs. I’d even be a great agil-ity dog! I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. You and I could be a perfect match!

▲Hi there! I’m a sweetheart named JoeJoe. I’m a 2-year-old black and tan Coonhound mix who is very sweet and I aim to please. I do well with other dogs, and would be happiest in a quiet, adult home. If I’m the one you’re searching for, call about me today!

Hi, my name is Star and

how appropri-ate is that for I am a shining star! I am a tiny, approxi-mately 8-year-old, 7 pound Maltese mix. After I was

rescued from a hoarding situation,

these wonder-ful folks brought me up to date on all my vaccines, had me spayed and my teeth cleaned. I feel marvelous and I love

everyone I meet! My house-training is improving and I love to go for walks and car rides. I do have a skin condi-tion called demodex mange (noncontagious to dogs & hu-

mans - it is caused by stress), but I am almost healed. Both my foster mom and the vet say I am doing great and would really benefit from having a forever home. Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so, please

go to the Carolina Poodle Rescue website at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and apply or give us

a call at 864-489-3559.

I am sponsored by Dogmom Productions, www.dog-mom.com

I’m Flippy and I had to leave the

mom I loved for all my life because, at 84-years-old, my mom was too fee-ble to care for my needs when I be-

came diabetic. The family rallied to assure that my sugar was stabi-lized by their vet

and I’m doing well, only 2 shots daily - morning and eve-ning - so even a working home can help me if they keep a

regular schedule. Still, I am used to having a constant companion so Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas wants to assure that I go to a family who meets all my needs be-cause I am very special. Just ask my family...they loved

me enough to assure I get everything I need for my future! I came to the rescue with bladder stones that were unex-

pected but taken care of immediately, and the surgery went great. I am now healthy and doing very well with my insulin shots. All I need is someone who can keep me on

a consistent schedule and my special diet. Insulin and needles are less than $40 a month so I am well worth the

effort. I do need a fenced yard because I LOVE to run and play. I am neutered, house-trained, purebred, up to date with shots, microchipped, good with kids, good with dogs,

but would prefer a cat-free home. Since I’m a special needs pet, I’ll need an experienced adopter. Show a copy of this PawPrints ad for a $25 discount on the requested

adoption donation. If you are interested in me, and would like to read more about me or other pets up for adoption, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. Call 919-723-7145 if you need an application mailed or faxed to

Miss Avis Davis, 1990-2005

My name is Gracie and I am the sweetest little

purebred Beagle. I weigh 12 to 15 pounds, I

am great with other dogs, cats and kids, I

am house-trained, and I walk nicely on a leash. I tested positive for heart-worms and am almost

half way through the treatment. Despite someone using me for breeding, I am very social and friendly.

The rescue raised the money for my heartworm treat-ment so there is no extra cost to my adopter. Even though I never had a good home before, you can

change things around for me if you adopt me. I am so adorable with so much love to give - I really need

someone good to adopt me. Are you that good home they talk about? To adopt me, call 910-392-0557.

perfect family dog without a family. I am house-trained and have really good manners. My perfect family

would have someone home a lot since I could suffer from separation anxiety since I live for my people and

Hello, my name is Gladys and I was surrendered to

CARE with HUGE bladder stones. Some of the biggest

that any have seen in the medical profession. I have

since had those pesky things removed and will be ready for my new home soon. I

currently have dry eye and will be on eye drops twice

daily for this throughout my life. I also have a heart mur-mur, but I am not clinical so I

am not on any medications for this. It is possible that one day, though, I might become clinical and need

medication for my murmur. I am a sweet little girl and the staff just loves me here. As soon as I recover from my surgery, the docs think I would make a great com-

panion. If you are interested in adopting me, please go to carewilmington.org or call 910-256-2624.

declawed, so I won’t tear up your furniture; and I’m litter-box-trained, so you have no worries about accidents

around the house. Also, I’m used to other cats and even those crazy dogs that people seem so attached to - go figure! We all know that “cat’s rule”- not dogs. How-

ever, I’ve been here at the Onslow County Animal Shel-ter way too long. Ya’ll need to come and ‘bust me out’ of this place. I will be eternally grateful and I’ll be good company for the rest of my days, sitting on your lap giv-ing you sandpaper licks and lots of contented purrs. really sure, to be honest! I am 6-months-old and come fully loaded with immunizations, spaying - the works! I am potty-

any kind of mash or mix of cooked grains, fruits and veggies. Once I

trust you, I will willingly step up on your hand or a perching stick. I am happiest when I spend time out of my cage on a

play gym. I have been living in a foster home with other parrots and I really enjoy their company! To adopt me, or to foster/adopt another of the many parrots of all species who are awaiting homes, visit www.phoenixlanding.org,

email [email protected] or call 866-749-5634.

My name is Sully and I was found wandering a neighborhood in Hamp-

stead. I'm a gray Tabby with white toes and no one claimed me. I am a little over 2-years-old. I love

people but not other cats or even dogs.

Topcat thinks maybe I had issues with dogs when I was on my own, so I'd rather not be around them. I like to sit with

you and you can pet me. I'm pretty low maintenance. I just need a quiet, inside, safe loving home with food and water

and plenty of love. To find out more about me, please send an email to [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, I am Snowman! Will

you take a chance with me? I am an American Stafford-shire Terrier, and I am just a big lug of love who wants a

furever home. I am healthy and very active, I pick and

choose other dogs to play with, yet I might like a home to myself. I had a rough life and was found wandering in Pen-der County and was picked up by the rescue. I have been

here for a while now and am looking forward to a loving future. I am doing great, so if you’re interested in meeting me, email [email protected] or call 910-675-0867.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

Hi, I’m Josie. I’m a 6-year-old Pomeranian mix. I’m a little girl of 25 pounds and I

just love people, children and other dogs. I would be just perfect in an apartment or condo. I also know basic

commands and walk well on a leash. I am up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative. My

owner (who I lived with my entire life) could no longer keep me and I was taken to the shelter. Everyone just loved me there so my foster parents, Joe and Helen, took me home

and are trying to find me a new home. I will be your faithful companion and furever friend. Will you give me a chance? Please call 910-545-1844 or 910-545-1846 for additional information. To send in an adoption application, visit our

website at www.oc-paw.com.

month. Lucky for you, no one snatched me up. You know

what a blast we’ll have together. As a running/walking partner, I’ll help get you in shape for sum-mer. As a confidante, I will lis-ten to your deepest thoughts

without judgment. Now pick up your phone and tell Silvia that you can’t live without me. My name is Tina and I am a

very affectionate Labradorable mix. I am 4-years-old which is old enough to have good sense but young enough to help you stay motivated. I have been spayed and vacci-

nated. Call 910-876-0539 to adopt me. Visit us at www.AShelterFriend.org or search for us on Facebook.

R.A.C.E. (Rescue Animals Community Effort)

My bags are packed and I am ready to go to my new forever home!! I have lived my whole

life with one person and now he is in a nursing home and I am very sad. My name is Teddy and I am a 10-year-old, sweet

as they come, Chihuahua. When I went to the vet, she had

to pull most of my teeth but I still eat fine. I want so badly to

sit with you and take quiet walks and just feel loved again.

My foster mom is great but I know it's only temporary. Please call 910-547-2839 or visit us on the web at raceshelter.org to adopt me. Remember

to like us on Facebook at R.A.C.E. Inc.

My name is Fiona and I’m a female Walker Hound mix, about

2-years-old. I am currently in training with the Pawsitive Part-ners Prison Program at Pender Correctional Institution in Bur-

gaw. I get along well with other dogs and cats but especially

kids are my favorite! Once you see me and get to know me you will fall in love with me. I’m up to date on all shots and on heart-worm preventative. To find out more, call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Better yet, fill out

an application at www.montyshome.org. Written for Fiona by her inmate trainer Collins W.

Hi, my name is Carley. I am a 1-year-old female doggie mix. I was

rescued when I was a baby from living outside in deplorable condi-tions. I am on the smaller, shorter side and weigh about 35 pounds. I love to play fetch and would love a

home with another male doggie, kids or just an awesome human friend! I have been living with a trainer since I

was a puppy so I have great man-ners; however, I would prefer a home without small ani-mals. I also want to live indoors with my family. I am spayed, crate-trained, house-trained, up to date on all

shots and heartworm negative. I am one great dog in a small package. Call about me today at 910-538-0106.

Are you ready for some fun? I am Singer and I love EVERYONE, even dogs. I play a lot and

when I was younger I was playing with a sewing nee-dle and decided to eat it. Have you guessed how I got my name yet? I have learned from my mistakes

and hope to find a new home and a family to love me. If you are interested in adopting me, please

see the required specifica-tions and adoption application at carewilmington.org. You

can also call 910-256-2624 with any questions.

ECHO DOGS - White German Shepherd Rescue BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE TEAM CAROLINAS

My name is Maggie and I’m a Bos-ton mix who steals the hearts of everyone I meet. I have been

learning lots of manners, so I can be the perfect pup! I’m small but

spunky, playful and charming. I’m good with other dogs and enjoyed

playing with the kids I’ve been around. I am house-trained and crate-trained! I even know the

command 'no bite' when I’m play-ing and forgetting my manners.

My foster mom says I'm an adorable girl who loves to run with the big dogs. I’m learning so much from the older

dogs in my foster home, including how much I love to eat. If you'd like to ask about me, please send an email to

[email protected] or call 828-778-2045.

I am Ollie, an all-around GRRReat gentleman. I am a

loving and settled boy and I get along with everyone. They say I am reaching my golden years,

but I do not show my age. I still enjoy playing and get along fine

with other dogs with a similar energy level. I even enjoy the company of kitties. I have very

good manners, I am house-trained, I’m not at all destructive, and I prefer the security and safety of my crate. I am look-

ing for a furever family who will let me enjoy my senior years in a low-stress environment. I do not think I would do well with high-energy dogs (or kids). To learn more about

me, call 910-431-6294 or visit www.echodogs.org.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Greetings fellow low rider lovers. My name is Albert. I’m pleased

to make your ac-quaintance…and as quickly as I can dis-

aquaint myself with a few heartworms, I shall be accepting

applications for per-manent best friend.

I’m an exceptionally good boy who likes other dogs. I could be what you’ve been looking for. Call CBHR, I'll pack my

bags and be waiting at the door. To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at

www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, please

contact CBHR for more details.

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

My name is Mickey Mantle and I was an owner surrender

through no fault of my own. I'm just about 1-year-old, so I have a high level of energy,

and I would be best placed in a home with older children. I'm spayed and vaccinated and I

have a cherry eye that my fos-ter mom is treating with drops. I'm really a loving cuddle bug,

who just wants to be loved. I've picked up “sit” quickly and I come when called. I'm crate-

trained and still working on house-training. I'm great with other dogs - cats, not so much. I would love another dog

to play and run with. To adopt me, send an email to [email protected] or call 704-559-4121.

COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

My name is Buffy and I’m a senior lady who

would do best as an only dog or with a laid-back

doggy companion. I love to be around people and

cuddling is one of my favorite past times.

Dogs bigger than me frighten me but I’m good

with older children and small dogs. I’m leash and crate-trained, I know basic commands, and I LOVE playing in a

sprinkler. I’m an older girl with lots of life. Do you think that you and me could be laid-back together? For more info,

contact CCBTR at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. Visit us online at www.ccbtr.org.
