PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODELS

It’s a magical time of year, and we hope

some of that magic will be coming our way!

You see, we are homeless shelter animals who need

families to love...not just at Christmas time, but for the rest of our

lives. My name is Brooklynne and I’m the kitten you saw on the cover. I’m a little

girl, just 10-weeks-old. I arrived at the cover shoot with my puppy

friends. They are Bandit, the reddish-gold boy pictured on

the cover, and Bear, a black and tan boy pictured here at

bottom. They are just 10-weeks-old, too! We were all found at Animal

Control and are now waiting for homes at Pender County Humane Society. Don’t worry - you don’t

have to adopt all three of us, just pick one! We are all cuddly, playful and highly kissable. We are also spayed/neutered, vaccinated and ready to love you.

Please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’d like to meet us in person. We’ll be waiting! Oh, one last thing, we’d like to thank photographer Dick Parrott for taking our photos and, hopefully, melting your hearts!

I May Have “Special Needs” But I Still Need A Home! My

Friend Winston Needs a Home, too!

Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet and loving girl. I’m a 3-year-old Shep-herd mix and all I want is to please and

be loved. I do have an old cruciate ligament injury which requires me to stay on glucosamine chondroiton for

my lifetime. It would be helpful if I were hand walked on a regular basis

to strengthen my muscles. I don’t really get along with other female

dogs, but I generally interact well with larger, docile male dogs. That brings

me to my 1½-year-old buddy, Winston. He’s also looking for a

family! He’s a big boy at 75 pounds and is thought to be a Boxer/Saint

Bernard mix. His name is actually Sir Winston because he acts so dignified, but sometimes he is

silly like Winnie the Pooh. He is sweet and loves other dogs. He is also neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. He would do best in an active, adult, cat-free home with another dog, probably a female who really likes to play. He’s also house and crate-trained and doing well on a leash with a gentle leader. We’re good friends and play together well, but we can be adopted separately.

Won’t you please consider giving one of us a home? Call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email

[email protected] for more info.

We are sponsored by the Karl Miller family. Thanks!

Hello, my name is

Minnie-Moo. I’m just 2-years

young and a very loving, energetic and well-mannered girl. That

means that I’m both house-

trained and crate-trained!

I love car rides and walks on the beach (or any other ad-venture you can throw my way). As a huge bonus, I am

currently residing with a professional dog trainer who works with me every day. I can get a little too excited

around small children and other animals so I should be your only fur baby. I am spayed and up to date on vacci-nations. If you are ready to begin our adventure together, please call Amy at 910-253-0501. I’ll be waiting for you.

I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in loving

memory of Casper and Lucy.

Can you hear me purring? My name is Rosie and I’m an ex-

tremely affectionate cat who is looking for a good home. I was brought to Pender County Humane Society by a nice lady who had been feeding me when I was a stray

hanging out by a storage unit. I get along great with the other kitties at the shelter and I love getting attention from humans! I'm spayed,

current on vaccinations, litterbox-trained and 1-year-old. I’d be so grateful to have a furever home! Come to the shelter and get to know me. It’s a cage-less environment, so you can play with me and watch me interact with the other kitties and all the toys that

are laying around. If you’d like to get things started, please call Pender County Humane Society at

910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

I am sponsored by Christine Watkins of A Pet Nanny. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’VE RUN OUT OF TIME!

What’s going on? I just know there have got to be folks out there

who love cuddly, kissable, orange

Tabbies! I’ve been featured in

the magazine several times,

and my friends at Animal Control

are trying desperately to help me find a family. They know what a gem I am. They even have me in a cat cage in the

lobby so that folks can see me when they first walk in! Doesn’t someone out there want to kiss my chubby cheeks and take me home? My name is Citrus (FM2225) and I’m a young boy who has been living at the shelter since June

15. It’s just bizarre that I’ve been overlooked! I was born to be by someone’s side, or on their lap, or in their arms. I’m not picky! I do have some good news: my appearances in the magazine have attracted the attention of someone who

agreed to pay for my neutering, so now my new family won’t have to worry about that expense! Nice, huh? If

you’d like to be the lucky one who takes me home, please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. Officer Clewis can tell

you all about me and give you driving directions.

I am sponsored by the Keffer family: Dixie, Luke, Kira, Nikki and Charly. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out Of Time!

I’ve been at Animal Control since July!! My name is Allegra (CF2710) and I can’t believe that winter is

now here. My friends at the shelter

have been doing their best to hang on to me and allow me time to find a family, but there are just too many dogs and not

enough room. I need to find a home

soon! I’m a 2 to 3-year-old girl who

once lived in a home with another dog. Our owner faced financial difficulties and we were forced to come to the

shelter. My doggie friend has found a family, but I have-n’t been so lucky. I’m a very sweet girl who walks well on a leash and enjoys dog cookies. I sat very nicely for

my photo and I’m hoping someone out there will take pity on my predicament. I’d be a wonderful family compan-ion, so please come to the shelter and meet me! For more information, please call Pender County Animal

Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. You’re my hope for the future!

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

We’d love to plop our luxuriously furred 80 pounds (each) at your feet or in your lap! We are Annabelle and Nala,

dry mouth, “teacup” Saint Bernards. We’re very affection-ate and playful. Our favorite toys squeak, bounce funny,

or drop treats. Our foster mom makes sure we get to chew on big natural beef bones. We’re working on over-coming our shyness with new people and new dogs but we love our foster sister, a Hound mix, half our size. We all play together. Our foster family has a cat and we get

along well. On our leashed walks, we like to greet and be hugged and petted by neighborhood kids. On occasion, as a special treat, we get to run loose on a farm far from

the road. We love lumbering through the brush and swim-ming in the pond, and we obediently come back to a big hug and treat when called. We’re spayed, have been

treated for heartworms, and vaccinated. In our former life we had to live outside, but now we’re house-trained and crate savvy. We were found together and would love to stay together, but we could be happy in separate homes as long as there are lots of hugs and attention. If you’d like one or two “saints” to share your life with, contact

Cape Fear Saint Bernard Rescue 910-547-4823 or email [email protected].

I lived in a loving home for years, then everything

changed. My owner became ill and could no longer look

after me. There was no one else to take me in and I was brought to Southport Oak Is-land Animal Rescue (SOAR). It’s quite a change to go from a comfy home with familiar sights and sounds to the

strange surroundings of an animal shelter. My name is Gracie and, at 10-years-old, I’m hoping to find a special

person or family who will bring me back into the home envi-ronment where I belong. I enjoy receiving attention, being

held, and will happily snuggle up in your arms. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. There’s no doubt

that I would make someone very happy with my purring, pleasing personality. If you’d like to meet me, but don’t

know how to get here, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They can give you very easy directions and I’ll be so happy to greet you! P.S. You might recall that last month I was pictured with my good friend, Claire. She passed away

recently due to her advanced age. I’ll miss her.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Speckles.

Hi. My name is Taku and I’m originally from Virginia, but am

living in a foster home now after having spent a while in an Animal Shelter. As my caregiver will tell you, I am one of the most beauti-

ful red and white Border Collie boys she has ever seen. I try not to let it go to my head though; I love people, toys, and am not

possessive with my things or my food. I am a Border Collie

though. I am a very high drive guy, and I’m super smart. I have

a hard time with other dogs sometimes. Though I would like to join in the fun, I don’t really know how to play like them. I would enjoy getting to know you too, but you will need to have had experience with dogs before, preferably Border Collies. I am 2 to 3-years-old, weigh 40 pounds, neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm and flea preven-tion medicine. If you are interested in me, please visit the Carolina Border Collie Rescue website (CBCR.org), or call

919-682-6125 for more information about me and other dogs currently available for adoption.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance

Agency in honor of Dingo.

My name is Billy and I’m a very sweet and loving Walker Hound

who weighs just under 50 pounds. I had a bit of a sad beginning, as I was found on High-

way 74 West ex-tremely dehydrated

and emaciated. I had been shot in the hip,

but luckily today I suf-fer no ill effects from that injury. I am doing much better now, however my ap-

petite will always be big as a result of being starved. I have been neutered and microchipped and am up to date on heartworm prevention and all vaccines. I’m probably

about 2-years-old, but I act much younger than that since I was never allowed to be a puppy. I am house-trained and

non-destructive, but am still learning to not jump up on people. I like other dogs and seem ok with cats. I love people most of all, now that I have met some nice hu-

mans. I will be a loyal and loving companion to someone willing to give me a forever home. Please call my foster

mom, Grace, at 910-352-6256 for more information.

I am sponsored by Dogmom Productions.

►I am a super friendly and goofy guy! That's why they named me Squiggy. I get along great with

other pets, people, kids - you name it.

I am a well rounded guy. I

spent a couple of months at Animal Control, but hey,

no biggie. I like my foster home and love to stretch out and roll around on the soft carpet. I would love to snuggle in bed with you and some cozy blankets. I am neutered, up to date on my shots and a lot of fun to be around. I am

litter-trained, too.

►My name is Spike and they have no idea

what breed of dog I am! I am wonderful though! I get along great with other ani-mals and am sooo sweet and gentle! I

don't pull on the leash or act crazy at all and I have a moderate en-ergy level. I am neu-

tered, and up to date on my shots and crate-trained. I would make a great family pet and it's a darn shame that I ran out of time at Animal Control. Please don't let me languish in

homelessness anymore.

◄My name is Buckwheat and I am one friendly boy! I weigh about

25 to 30 pounds and I am little. I get

along with other dogs

and kids, but I have never

been around a cat. I ran out of time at Animal Control and that's one big shame. People don't know what they are missing. I am

little enough for an apartment, but do have a little energy. I am neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm nega-

tive. I am crate-trained, too.

◄My name is Sissy and I am around 12 pounds and ap-

proximately 3 to 4-years-old. I get along great with the dogs (two large and one

small) and two cats who al-ready live in my foster home. I am very sweet, affectionate and quiet. I like to follow my foster mom around and will

sit in her lap and sleep. I have no nipping or barking issues. I am getting used to grass and being out of a cage. My fos-ter mom leaves my kennel open all day and I go in and out. I am already crate-trained and working on potty-training with treats and I am about 50% there. I walk well on a leash but

with a little hesitancy when you take me into the grass. I was rescued after being turned in to an overcrowded shelter.

◄My name is Bernie and I am super sweet and happy. I was found walking down

the street incredibly emaci-ated when someone took

me in and helped fatten me up. I had an old injury

where I had been hit by a car. The vet says it is not hurting me at all. It does

make me limp, but I can get around fine. I am neutered, vaccinated and heartworm

negative. I am house-trained, and get along with cats, dogs and kids, too. Will

you please adopt a dog with special needs?

We would like to extend our sincerest and deepest gratitude to the Harms Family Foundation for sending in our largest single donation (ever received to date)

in honor of a special kitty they adopted from Adopt-An-ANGEL.

Check out our BRAND new website at www.adoptanangel.net!

◄Scruffy Dog Alert! My name is Jacques and I’m a smart, sweet boy. Everyone wonders what I’m mixed with. It could be a large Schnauzer or some sort of Terrier. I’m incredibly cute, that’s for sure! I was found as a stray but I know how to sit, shake and lay down on command. I’m already neutered, vaccinated and just 2-years-old. I’m eager to please and eager to be loved! Come visit me soon.

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine December 2010

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out Of Time!

If my brown eyes could speak, they’d surely be saying,

“Please help me, I don’t know why this has happened!” My

name is Selena (CF2916) and I’m a young, black Lab girl who is bewildered by

the sad circum-stances of my life. I was found as a stray in Burgaw in Septem-ber. Another dog was walking with me when Animal Control pulled

over and picked us up. My doggie buddy has since found a family, but I’m still waiting. I hope someone

reading this will decide they’d like to change a dog’s life for the better, because I’d be so grateful if they would! I walk well on a leash, I know how to sit on command and I’m obviously friendly to other dogs. There are just too many animals here and not enough room for us all, so I hope you’ll make plans to come visit me soon! Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 for directions or more

information. You can be my hero.

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

◄Talk about a cute combo! My name is Bentley (A033680)

and I’m a Pekingese/Dachshund mix. Highly

kissable, indeed! As you can see from my photo, I sit perfectly on command and will catch treats in my mouth. I have a curly tail that wags when you give me attention and I love to cuddle up beside humans

so they can wrap their arms around me. I’m just 4-years-old and have so

much love to give! You’ve got to come meet me. I’m a certified heartmelter who needs a home.

►Wait, don’t close my cage door! I’m an

adorable orange and white kitten named

Crusoe (A033861) and I want to go home with you! The person who

adopts me will be soooo lucky. I am extremely

affectionate and love to be cuddled in your arms.

I also have a fantastic personality. I’m playful, social and have a happy spirit. At just 5-months-

old, I was found as a stray, but I belong with a

family! Do yourself a gigantic favor and adopt me!

◄Are you a Boxer fan? I’m a purebred boy and I’m waiting for love at Animal Control! Wow, it’s a mystery how a

sweetheart like me became a stray.

They call me Owen (A034055) and I’m just 1-year-old. My little behind wiggles

with happiness when you talk to me and I’ll sit on command with

no trouble. I take treats gently, looking at you with my soft, brown eyes the en-

tire time. I’m adorable and I hope to be adopted soon.

◄My gorgeous green eyes are set against my Silver Tabby coloring - wow, I’m stunning! My name is Scrappy (A033675) and I have a sad story. I’m an 8-year-old boy who just lost my family. I’m already declawed and neutered and I have the friendliest personal-ity. I am so happy to meet people and will purr and rub my face against your fingers. Adopt me and I’ll keep you happy and warm this winter!

◄If you’re looking for a soft, cuddly cat who loves to be held, look no further! I’m Ming Lei (A033945) and there’s no where I’d rather be than in your arms. When they took my photo, I purred the entire time. I’m a cream and brown Sia-mese girl, just 4-years-old. I have blue eyes and would prefer to be the only cat in the household. Please visit so you can see how wonderful I am!

►I’m a beautiful blonde boy named Muneco

(A032568). If you don’t know Spanish, let me

tell you about my name. It means “soft toy”,

which is appropriate for me as I have the softest coat of fur and I hope to

be your playmate for life! I came to the shel-ter because my owner

could no longer afford to take care of me. It’s a

real shame because I’m such a loving fellow!

They think I’m a Golden Retriever mix, but I have a poufy, curly tail, kinda like an Eskimo-type dog. I’m just 2-years-old and am already vaccinated. I love meeting

new people and I enjoy sitting for treats. In between cud-dles in the playroom, I kept looking out the window as

though waiting for someone to get me. Could you be the one I’ve been waiting for? Please hurry!

Hi, I’m Annabelle. I am a gorgeous Shepherd mix who is 6-years-young and

spayed. I am a big girl (100 pounds) with lots of love to give! I have many

exceptional qualities. I am a great watchdog with a deep bark. I walk well

on a leash and have been obedience-trained. I am invisible fence trained, too! I would love to live

inside again and you’ll be pleased to know, I'm

100% house-trained! My requirements are simple! I need a fenced yard or

invisible fence and a home where there are no other dogs or cats. Because of my extra-large size, I would do best with older children, too. I deserve another chance to find a great home, could it be with you? If you are interested in adopting me, please call Amy today at 910-253-0501

Justice Needs A Loving Family! Please Consider Adopting

Her.

Full of good spirit, com-

passion, and strength,

Justice is a furry friend

who will surely warm your heart.

Her caretaker succumbed to cancer, and

for the past five years, Justice never left his side. Justice is bounding with life, but after she was rescued, she was diag-nosed with breast cancer. As best the doctors can tell, the

cancer has not spread, and the major mastectomy has been performed. She is spayed, vaccinated and on heart-

worm preventative. Recently, Justice has been around many new people, dogs, and cats, and through it all, she

has adjusted very well. She is house-trained, and she does not chew or jump onto furniture. October was Breast Can-

cer Awareness month. Please consider adopting this beau-tiful, gentle dog. For more information, call 310-766-6011.

◄Hi, we are Maude

and Claude

and we are looking for

a new home after

a new landlord

kicked us out of our

former digs. We had run of the house,

were not messy, always used our litterbox and thought life was terrific. Now we are confined to a 4’ x 4’ exercise pen and are really hoping some nice family will come along and adopt us! We are friendly once you get to know us, like to be petted, love treats and are used to cats. We love each other very much and must be adopted together. We weigh

about 4 pounds each and are spayed and neutered.

◄Hi, I’m Elle, another big white bunny res-cued from being fal-con food. I am very

sweet once you get to know me, but I really think I would love a bunny companion. I am very playful, and want to be out of my pen dancing all day

long. My foster mom says she loves to

watch me. I love my hard plastic toys and I

toss them and flip them in the air. It is really so much fun,

especially when they land in my water bowl! I was so scared when I was first res-cued, but life is wonderful now. All I need is a home of my

own with lots of room to run around ’til my heart’s content - I will be totally happy. Won’t you be that one?

▲My name is Penny and I am looking for a new home after being abandoned in a filthy apartment. Life was horrible

then, but it is good now and will be even better with a family of my own. I don’t trust people very much but everyone

now seems so nice that I think I’m changing my mind. I am a curious little girl by nature, and like to be right in the mid-

dle of the action. They say I am quite the looker with my big blue eyes. You’ll just have to come see for yourself! I

weigh about 4 pounds, have been spayed and am perfect with my litterbox. Please come meet me.

►I’m Lucy, and I’m

looking for a man! Bunny man is okay, but human man is es-sential. My foster par-ents finally figured out that I am

very partial to men. I

can tolerate women once they prove themselves trustworthy to me, but males – I

just love em! If you’re a guy who loves rabbits, I will fawn all over you, love you, lay by your feet, make you laugh and beg for attention. There’s nothing I won’t do to please you.

So if you’re a guy, thinking you might like a big beautiful bunny for companionship, I’m your gal! I’m spayed, litter-

Where Are They Now?

Instantly captivated by Cover Model kitten

Dr. McDreamy, as well as by his sister Natasha, who

appeared on Pender County Humane Society’s

shelter page, Gaines Town-send and wife Jane Stewart Townsend drove out to the

shelter to take a look. Here, the couple describe their first meeting with the felines and how their lives have changed:

Gaines: We felt good about the facility as soon as we drove up to it. We were very impressed with the cat area - cats free-roaming instead of being penned up in cages. As soon as we saw Dr. McDreamy, we knew he was the right choice. We also noticed something that gave an important answer to another ques-tion we had; he was the only one of his siblings who regularly played with his sister Natasha. That settled it; we wanted to adopt Natasha as well.

Both let Jane hold them, and purred in her arms. Two days later we returned and signed the paperwork. When we took them home with us, they were a bit apprehensive; after all, the shelter was the only actual ‘home’ they had ever known. But Jane sang to them to reassure them.

Jane: They were curious about their new surroundings, and they soon adjusted very smoothly to their new home - the first two-story home they had ever been in. They met our two cats, Oscar and Sasha, and were truly intrigued by Oscar, a purebred Shaded Silver Persian. They’d likely never seen a cat like him before, with a big, swishy tail which both like to bat with their front paws. We accli-mated them by getting them all to play together with the wire toys Oscar and Sasha enjoy. Dr. McDreamy became ‘Nathan’ and we kept Natasha’s name. So it’s now ‘Nathan and Natasha’! They were discovered with their mother and siblings in a cornfield as little kittens. Nathan was smaller than his brothers and we believe we know why. He has always ensured that his little sister has food before he eats. Now he’s making up for lost time; he still waits for Natasha to finish eating but will eat with a vengeance with both front paws circling the food bowl when it is his turn. Natasha is a pure loving creature and very talkative. She took to

Oscar immediately and often tries to curl up with him in his favor-ite basket or on our bed. Gaines: We view them as a true gift of God (which, in fact, is what ‘Nathan’ means in Hebrew). They have taught us so many things and, to me particularly, they have shown that not only are cats capable of unconditional love (contrary to popular stereotypes), they read-ily give it, being ex-tremely affectionate to Jane and me at virtu-ally every turn.

After an exhausting round of bird watching and squirrel viewing, Natasha and Nathan take a nap

on the screened porch.

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

◄Have you ever met a cat who listens to the radio? Now you have! My name is Amanda and I just adore the sounds that come out of this amazing invention. My foster mom plays all kinds of tunes for me. I’m a very sweet and playful girl, just 1-year-old. I was found at Carolina Beach, quite near to the sand. Maybe I was listening to the music of the seashells. We could have a harmonious life!

Volunteers Needed Desperately!

To help, please email or call:

[email protected] or 910-792-9014 and leave a message.

◄I’m Thumbelina and, yes, I know my name! Adopt me and I’ll show you. I’m an 11-month-old orange Tabby girl who would gladly be

yours. My foster mom says she would keep me if she could. That should tell you what a great girl I am! You’ll

find I’m a very affectionate feline who gives hugs and kisses.

I get along well with children and other cats and am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I’m so ready to

belong to a family. Please, can it be yours?

◄I was discovered at Carolina Beach! My name is Raleigh and I’m a young boy with a playful, happy personality. You’ll always find me ready for any kind of game. In my photo, I am staring intently at a feather and am ready to jump for it! I’m great with children and would be a true family member. No hiding under the bed for me. I like to be with my people! I’m healthy and litterbox-trained. Let’s go!

►My human daddy was so sad to

leave me. He was deployed and had to bring me back to Cat

Adoption Team, where he had

originally adopted me. It sure would make him happy to

know that I have found a loving home! Could you help me out with that? My name is Kandy and I’m a 9-month-old golden Tabby who is petite for my age. I’m very affectionate and am already spayed, vaccinated

and litterbox-trained. I’m good with other cats, too!

▲Hi there, my name is Ricco! I’m the sweet black boy on the far left. In the middle is my

sister, Layla, and on the far right is our friend, Birdie, a girl. We are 10 to 12-week-old kittens who were found as strays. A very nice family has been fostering us, but now it’s time

we each found loving homes! I’m a total Lap Cat who enjoys snuggling. Layla is playful, but loves to be held in your arms. Birdie is the calmest and will cuddle with you forever. Come choose the one you want to take home!

◄Adopt me and you’ll have a friend for life! My name is Mary and I’m a 12-week-old kitten girl who was rescued by Cat Adoption Team when I was running out of time at Animal Control. I have a playful, charming personality, I will stick my paw out of my cage to get your attention, and will purr in your arms once you pick me up. I’m spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. All I want is to go home with you and be loved!

Hi, my name is Stella. Isn’t

that a great name? I am an adorable

14-month-old Terrier mix with brindle

coloring. My owner moved and could no longer keep me so my

foster family took me in and boy, am I glad they did. I am currently living with two little Cockapoos that really don’t

understand that all I want to do is play. I guess I am just a little too big for them (32 pounds) but I am winning points as I let them go into my crate and take my chew bones. I am really good at sharing. I love to go on long walks and I am very good on a leash. I love to play catch and will bring the ball back to you for more fun and play time. I am sure I

have many more untapped talents so time will tell. I am told that I am very smart because I am so trainable and learn very quickly. I am a wonderful companion as I am eager to please and I do as I am told. I love to follow my

foster Mom around and I want to be near her all of the time. Lately I have discovered how great it is to hang out

in the backyard on the chaise lounge and watch the butter-flies in my Mom’s garden. I am crate-trained, up to date on vaccinations and spayed. I have lived with a family most of my life so I have manners, most of the time. After all, I am just a puppy! I am very loving and am looking for a home that will love me back. If you’d like to learn more about

adopting me, please call Suzanne at 910-253-8376.

URGENT, URGENT! I’VE RUN OUT OF TIME AND AM NEXT ON THE LIST!

This is my third appear-ance in the magazine and

I’m hoping it will be my lucky number. There are just too many dogs com-

ing into the shelter and not enough room for us all.

Won’t you please consider adopting me? I’m a beau-tiful boy with lots of love to give. I’m Midnight

(CM2579) and I’ve been at the shelter since June of

this year. I watch the visi-tors as they come and go

but, for some reason, no one seems to notice me. It’s quite a mystery as I have soft brown eyes, glossy ebony

fur and a friendly, loveable personality. I’m a young Black Lab mix, probably 2 to 3 years of age, and I was found as a stray in Pender County. I’m a very affectionate boy who is happy to make friends with everyone and I have a play-ful attitude toward life. I would love to become part of a

loving family, play in the fenced-in yard, and cuddle on the couch or floor with you. Could you make my dream come true? Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. You’ll find me here, waiting to hear your voice outside my kennel

door.

I am sponsored by the Keffer family: Dixie, Luke, Kira, Nikki and Charly. Thank you!

Cat Tails

◄Sophie’s choice? Well, my

choice is to find a nice

warm house. You see, it might

be a little difficult for me. You

may notice in my pic-

ture that my head is

tilted? Well, it is always that way. I had a high fever as a kitten and this is the result. It doesn’t affect anything I do, in

fact I think it’s a plus. It looks like I’m really interested in what you’re saying. You can’t get that from your boyfriend!

►No, I am not named after Clarence Darrow! I am named after one of the gen-tleman who played

Zorro, Darrow. Take a look and you will

see I have a perfect mask. I am just a little thing at 3-months-old. Someone found me wandering around a

gas station and decided to give me a chance and boy, am I glad! I am a sweetheart and love to be held. I didn’t know

how great life could be!

►Quinn is an Irish word, which means

to counsel. So I am going to give you some advice: “Come adopt me!” As you can see, I

am a beautiful Siamese mix, with brilliant blue eyes. I just celebrated

my 6th birthday, in a shelter no less. I should have been in my own house being served fresh tuna. That’s the life I deserve. I may be a little timid at first but give me a few

days and I’ll turn into that love machine you want.

◄Tia was the Greek Goddess

of Light and Mother of the

Sun, Moon and Dawn. I guess that explains all my color. I am responsible for

the sun, orange, moon, black,

light, white, and dawn, orange again. So it is

the perfect name for a Calico cat. It also means princess, and well, let’s just

say that I think I rule the world. In others words, I am a true Calico, with just a little attitude. I am only 8-months-

old so we will have many years to bond.

◄You must know by now the fate of a black cat? Yes, we are the last to

get adopted. Peo-ple just don’t think

we’re pretty. Some even think we are bad luck! Phooey, I say. We are usu-ally the most loving

cats. We know that we have to be

to get noticed. They call me

Buddy Boy, but I don’t know why. I

am a 7-month-old male kitty who is longing to get noticed and to find someone who’ll love me for my inner beauty. Will you be that one who sees through the outer shell?

◄No one takes me seriously, just like

Rodney Dangerfield. When really I am just

one big, silly kitty. And guess what, this month I am celebrat-ing my 1st birthday. Wouldn’t you like to make it special and let me celebrate at your house? If you take me home, I’ll

show you how I give bear hugs. You see, if you pick me up, I’ll wrap my paws around your neck and hold on. I don’t ever want to be put

down! Come visit me, I’ll wrap myself around you and keep you warm all the way home. Just like a big fur scarf.

Page 18: PawPrints Magazine December 2010

Hi everyone! I'm Marie: I was found

wandering the streets of Burgaw. I am a

9-month-old German Shepherd. My foster

mom says I am proba-bly not a mix and if I am, she doesn't know what! I am a very good girl - I

love all three of the dogs I live with right

now and get along great with them. I am very high energy and will need an active family

with a young, active dog and/or person to keep me busy and exercised! My foster mom is a trainer and she says I would do well at pretty much any dog sport - obedience,

agility, tracking or any of the others. I am a good watch dog and bark at things I am not sure of, but I calm down quickly when I'm told. I am good with kids, too, but would do best

with older kids (ages 8 or 9 and up probably) just because I am so big and silly sometimes. I am house-trained, crate-trained and I know "sit". I'm a good eater, not picky. I am spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative and I am up to date on my shots! Please help me find a great home for Christmas! I am available for adoption to an approved

home. Call 847-594-7529 or email [email protected] for information or to meet me! Thanks!

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has

rescued a homeless animal.

◄I’m a super cute Beagle and Terrier mix who was picked up as a stray near the Wilmington airport. My name is Carly (A247078) and I would love to go on a lifetime of adventure with you. At just 10-months of age, I’m a loyal companion who knows how to sit and shake on command. I was bred and then cast away like garbage. I’ve just been spayed so now I hope to start a long term commitment to you.

◄My name is Speckle (A246413) and I’m every-

thing you could ever want in a kitty! I’m cute, I’m loving, I

make biscuits, I’m a purr machine, I like to be held

and I’m good with kids, dogs and other cats. I even let a litter of kittens smack me on

the forehead and on my back as I walked by their cage. And when I make biscuits, I can make them anywhere...on the floor, in the air, on you. Yummy! I love to be petted and will

even rub around your ankles. I’m just 7-months-old and was brought to the shelter and sur-

rendered by my family because they were moving. Would you give me a second chance at love?

►I’m so ready to get outta here!! My name is Kat

(A246454) and I’m an adult girl who loves being held. I

love to be rubbed and I love feathered toys, too. In

fact, I am all about love. I was surrendered to the

shelter because my owner could no longer keep me. If you are looking to adopt

a very sweet furry compan-ion, I hope and pray you

will consider saving me. I promise to spend my life

making it up to you.

►I’m the most beautiful bearded lady in the

world! My name is Nolia (A243669) and I’m a

Terrier mix. I’ve got a super scruffy chin that looks like a patch of

white shag carpet was attached to it! I know

how to sit, shake and lay down on command and I take treats ever so gen-tly from your fingertips. I’m eager to please and listen well to correction. I was picked up by Ani-mal Control after some-one found me running loose on Princess Place Drive in

Wilmington. Just look into my brown eyes, how could you say ‘no’ to loving me?

◄My owner surrendered me

because they couldn’t have me inside the house. Well,

doesn’t that de-feat the purpose

of having a house? To keep your family, ALL of your family, safe and shel-

tered. My name is Precious (A121542) and I’m an adult, spayed girl. I love to be rubbed and will smoosh my head into

your hand. I’m good with kids, dogs and other cats, I know my name and will respond when you call me, and I will be the

most wonderful companion to anyone who’ll love me.

►My name is Stewie (A246576) and I’m a German

Shepherd and Golden Retriever

mix who is looking for a

family to cherish. I was found as a stray (along with another doggy) on 3rd Street in

Downtown Wilmington. Luckily, someone called Animal Control and they picked me up and brought me here to the shelter. I’m 2-years-old, neutered, laid back, gentle,

loving and very good on a leash. Adopt Me!!

Page 20: PawPrints Magazine December 2010

I’m a family dog who has somehow

ended up at a shelter! I hope you’ll read this and bring me home where I

belong. My name is Maddie and I’m a

loving girl, just 4-years-old, who is

friendly to everyone I meet. I am already

house-trained, leash-trained and

obedient. As you can see from my photo, I know how to sit on command. I get

along great with children and other dogs and am a per-fect size at 35 pounds - not too big and not too small.

They tell me I’m a Lab/Terrier mix who is already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. And here’s more good news - I had a torn ACL but SOAR

got me the surgery I need (at no cost to my future fam-ily) and my cast is off! I will be better than ever in just a

few weeks, able to run, jump and play like any other dog. Until then, though, I’m taking it easy and taking

applications for my adoption. If you’d like to meet me, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They can answer any other questions you might have. See you soon!

I am sponsored by the UNCW Pre-Veterinary

Medical Association. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’M RUNNING OUT OF TIME!!

How can a well-trained family dog who is good with children be running out of time? I’m the kind of dog

who people dream of adopt-ing. Please visit and take

me into the playroom, I promise you’ll be impressed! Even though my life is a bit

sad right now, I’m still hoping you’ll provide it with a happy ending! My name is Trixie (A020747) and I was at Ani-mal Control when I was just a puppy. Someone adopted

me and I’ve been living a very happy life until now, when I was brought back to this

same place. You see, they moved away and left me here. I just don’t understand as they told the shelter folks all my good qualities: I’m house-trained, great with children and know how to sit and lay down on command. At just 11-months-old, I’m a spayed, vaccinated Lab girl who loves to be cuddled. When

you sit down, I’ll snuggle next to you and gaze up with my brown eyes. I’ll be a great companion for some lucky family.

You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you get here! Please call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204

and tell them you’re on your way.

◄Hi! My name is Tenny and I’m a 1-year-old girl who likes all people and am playful and loving. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and, of course, I have excellent litterbox habits. I’m even getting along with the other cats here. My favorite place in the playroom is the seat by the window. Do you have a spot like that in your home? Do yourself a favor and come meet me!

◄Take a look at my big smile! This should

show you what a friendly, happy-go-lucky boy I am. My name is

Duke and I’m an adorable combination

of a Chocolate Lab and a Boxer. At just 10-

months-old, I weigh only 41 pounds and am as sweet as can be. I’m already house-trained, so you won’t have to

worry about that. And I’m great with children, so bring them on! I’m used to living indoors

with the family and playing outside in a fenced-in yard. Adopt me and let’s get started on our fabulous new life!

◄Affectionate, playful and entertaining. That’s me in a nutshell! Hi, I’m Danny, a very handsome orange and white Tabby boy. At 6-months-old, I was found as a stray. I get along well with other cats and I just plain adore being with people! I’ll be your best friend and keep you company night and day. I’m used to living indoors and am neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Let’s go!

►I’m a big, fluffy boy named Rossi and I’m

ready to love you! I came to the shelter because

of a doctor’s orders: my owners’ new grandbaby developed an allergy to

felines. Their loss can be your gain! I’m a 4-year-

old, long-haired boy who loves to be petted and cuddled. I am used to

living inside-only and am already neutered, up to date on shots and

litterbox-trained. Let’s go!

◄Wouldn’t this be a great face to wake up to? My name is Crosby and I’m a 3-year-old Rottweiler mix who weighs in at a cool 80 pounds. You won’t have to worry about training me because I’m already house-trained and leash-trained. I can move right on in with no trouble! I’m great with children and am used to living inside, while also having a fenced-in yard for playtime. I’m friendly and loveable, too!

►Maybe if I sit real still and smile for the camera, no one will

notice that I’m sitting in my food dish! Gosh,

this is so embarassing. But hey, I’m just a

cute little kitten, not a dignified, older cat. Things like this are

bound to happen! My name is Tiger and I’m

a 5 pound, 5-month-old boy who loves to play, eat, nap and snuggle. I get along great with other kitties and enjoy being held by humans.

I’m also neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Laugh at life with me!

Hi there! It’s me again, Riley! I am still look-ing for a forever home but haven’t found one

yet. I love to please so that’s why I don’t un-derstand how some-one could just throw me away. My foster

parents tell me all the time that I am such a good girl! After being

found as a stray on the side of a busy road, I knew my life would

turn around. I was in awful shape, scared, and weak the cold night I was

picked up but now I am back to a healthy weight and I have a clean bill of health. I am 23 pounds and the vet said I am around 1 to 2-years-old so I am full grown. I

love my crate and I am doing well with my house-training! I was just spayed and had all my shots and I was a com-plete lady throughout it all! I think I would make someone a wonderful companion. I am great with other dogs and I love everyone I meet. If you think you want a calm, lov-

ing little girl, then please call 910-264-8300.

Lap-friendly and full of love! That’s me, Lilly. I’m a 3-year-old Poo-dle/Dachshund mix who weighs in at a

precious 15 pounds. NC Rescue League

found me at a shelter where I was scheduled

to be euthanized. Whew, that was a

close one! Now I’m enjoying life in my fos-

ter home and waiting for the day when my new family comes along. I’m very easy-going and sweet and I get

along well with my canine foster brothers and sisters. My foster mom says I don’t have any issues - I have good

house manners and enjoy taking walks outside. I sleep in my dog bed all night long and I behave like an angel while being groomed. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heart-

worm prevention. If I sound like the friend you’ve been wait-ing for, please call NC Rescue League at 910-232-5253.

◄I’m a small Hound - just 30 pounds - and I was found as a

stray in South Carolina. My name is Juliet and I’m a sweet,

gentle, 1-year-old girl who would love to live in a quiet

home with my very own Romeo. I play extremely well with other dogs and enjoy taking walks.

I’m looking for a person or fam-ily with a fenced-yard and

a desire to share their life with a good-natured girl like me. I’m

already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. How

about giving this Juliet a very happy ending?

◄Hello! My name is Bella Maria and I’m a 2-year-old Walker Hound girl who was found on a

dirt road by a kind stranger. I was starving at the time but I’ve been

living in a wonderful foster home and am now

up to 31 pounds, fully grown. I’m very sweet

and I get along well with the six other dogs living

with me. This photo was taken at an adoption fair in Southport and I was so

happy to greet all the new people. Call today and let’s make plans to meet!

◄My name is Sugar Pie and I’m a 3-year-old Redbone/Bloodhound mix girl. I have floppy ears as soft as butter and I also have the most kissable mouth. In

fact, I’m kissin’ people all the time

because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I enjoy playing and

being with people. I love other dogs, too.

I really want to be part of a family. Would you let me be your new baby?

►Don’t you think I’m the prettiest

Rottweiler you’ve ever seen? My

name is Mama Roxy and, a few months ago, I wandered up

to Paw’s Place in sad shape. My eyelids had turned inward, irritating the eyes. My new friends got

me to the doctor and he corrected the

problem with surgery. Now I’m feeling great and batting my eyes at

everyone! I’m a 6-year-old girl who is spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m extremely gentle and good with children. At 70 pounds, I have a very loving personality and I’m also house-trained. It

would be so wonderful to share my life with you!

◄Hi, my name is Peaches. You can’t tell by my smiling face, but my earlier life was a sad one. I was kept outside

and gave birth to litters of puppies. But all that has changed! I’m spayed and looking forward to living

inside with my new family. I am already house-

trained and I get along great with other dogs. I’m

a friendly and loving 8-year-old Golden Retriever mix. All I want is TLC and a nice place to live with a family

who adores me. I’m also vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m not asking for much, just kindness and

affection. I’ll give it right back in return!

►I might be nothin' but a hound dog, but I sure am proud! My name is Beau and I was part of a litter of twelve puppies that was

adopted out four years ago. Sadly, my owner became

very ill and could no longer keep me. The good news is

that I have perfect house manners and am very well

behaved! I walk nicely on a leash, am house-trained, can sit for a cookie, and I get along well with other

dogs and human children. I am even used to sleeping in bed with my family, if it’s

allowed. Please give me a home where I can be loved!

I’m Lady Gaga, a brown Tabby girl, and I want your love, love, love! My black buddy, Bubba, wants your love, too.

We were born at the end of August and were found as strays on the beach. Our foster mommy gave us bottles to drink from, so now we’re very comfortable being held and cuddled by humans. We love to run, play and nap during the day and, at night, we’ll lay on a blanket on the couch and watch TV! Dancing with the Stars is our favorite, but we’re not picky. You can be in charge of the remote con-trol. We also get along great with the other kitties in the household and are already spayed/neutered, vaccinated

and litterbox-trained. Oh yes, in case you’re wondering, we can be adopted together or separately. Would you like to meet our adorable selves in person? Just call our SOAR

foster mom at 910-278-7901 and let’s set a date!

URGENT, URGENT! We Need to Find Homes Soon!

Hi there, my name is Page and this is my best friend Coal. We’ve lived in a home together for many years and are so sad to be searching for a new place to lay our heads. It would be wonderful to be adopted together, but we can be adopted separately if we each go to a loving home. I’m an 8 to 9-year-old female Shepherd mix and I’m a 95

pound teddy bear. Coal is an 8-year-old male Lab mix with an easy smile

and a loving personality. We are house-trained, obedient and eager to

please. We love going for walks, play-ing with children above the age of six

and we have lived harmoniously with a cat. We would be great companions

for anyone. We are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. I do take glucosamine for some arthritis in my hips, but I am

responding well. Because we’ve lived in a home all our lives, we have great house manners and are well-adjusted, social, friendly dogs. Would you please consider adopting one of us? Or perhaps both? We promise to give you so much love and so much companionship! You’ll never be

lonely again. Please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email [email protected]

for more information. Hope to meet you soon!

We are sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

I’m SO COLD Outside at the Shelter! I Need a Foster Home for the

Winter!! Please!! Our kennels are outdoors, and I’m shivering! It’s not even full winter yet! What will I do when it’s freezing

both day and night? Would someone take pity on me

and foster me temporarily for the winter? My name is

Petey and I’m a 25 pound Jack Russell mix. I once

had a wonderful home, but my human mom is terminally

ill and I was brought to Paw’s Place. I’m having a hard time walking on the shelter’s gravel because I’m used to smooth floors and surfaces. They are putting blankets down for me

to walk on, and wrapping me in blankets when I get cold, but I’m still shivering. I am house-trained, leash-trained, neutered, and friendly to all the humans I meet, including

kids. I’m an active 12-year-old fellow who is in great health. My foster home should be cat and dog free, that way I can lavish all my love on you alone. I’ll be great company for you! I am vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m also up for adoption, but right now I’m very interested in

finding a temporary home for the winter! Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 for more information on me. I’ll be

wrapped in my blankets, waiting!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thanks!

As we all know, eco-nomic times are a little

tight but that does not

stop some events from occurring. When they do occur,

Schnauzer Rescue of

the Carolinas (SRC) is there to try and help along with the help of special people. The rescue got a call about me,

another mini-Schnauzer who is in desperate need of cor-rective eye surgery. Can you believe that this will be the

second dog in two months that the rescue is going to help see again? Thanks to PawPrints and its readers, sight will hopefully be the Christmas gift to two lucky Schnau-

zers! I’m Ashton and I was diagnosed with juvenile cata-racts before I was even a year old. I am a sweet girl who

is 5-years-old. I love people, am good with other dogs and I’m house-trained. The surgery I need costs around $1,900 and, unfortunately, SRC cannot afford to pay for it without the help of donators. Whatever you can afford is greatly appreciated and SRC will match 100%. Please

call 910-264-8300 if you are interested in donating to my surgery. If you cannot donate but still want to help, I’m looking for a forever home after my surgery is complete.

So if you think you can wait for a wonderful little girl, please visit our website and put in an application at

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

Gorgeous, green-eyed girls - that us! We are Pollie and Hannah, two declawed, af-fectionate Persians who are

waiting to be yours. We once had a loving home, but our

owner died. She brushed us every night and gave us lots of attention. That’s why we are so sweet and friendly! When you come up to our

cage, we’re ready and wait-ing to head-butt your fingers

and be petted. We’ll also gladly play with any toys that you throw our way. At just 4-years-old, we’re spayed, vac-cinated and litterbox-trained.

We’re looking for a home where we can remain to-

gether - after all, we’re sis-ters, we get along, and we can offer twice the love. If

you have a quiet home and a warm lap, we think we’d fit right in! Call SOAR at 910-

457-6340 and let’s start mak-ing some plans for the future.

We are sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

THE RUFFIAN FOUNDATION

A Feral Cat Sanctuary

Please help us continue to rescue and relocate local feral cats driven from their habitats by rapid economic development and neglect, resulting in their suffering, and often, death. We are an

ALL VOLUNTEER NONPROFIT 501 (C) (3) CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. We trap, alter, vaccinate, and relocate (as their

last resort) these at risk cats to the refuge of our donated wooded acreage. We also educate on humane solutions to feral cat overpopulation and related health concerns of the public.

There are a number of healthy feral cats already living at the sanctuary, but we desperately need funds to construct new enclosures to keep them safe and accept new cats from the

waiting list. THE CATS NEED YOUR HELP NOW - please donate to the Ruffian Foundation for food, housing, bedding, and

medical care.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE to this worthy and HUMANE cause – THE CATS THANK YOU!!!

◄Talk about gorgeous! I’m soft,

silky and soooo sweet. My name is Samantha, but you can call me

Sammie (FF2842) for short. I have

been at the shelter since October and have been melting

hearts since my very first day. I

love to be petted and I also enjoy playing with cat

toys. I’m a young girl who will put a big smile on your face.

◄These blue eyes of mine have people

wondering if maybe Paul Newman has

come back as a cat? If so, here’s your chance

to live with a movie star! My name is Paul (FF2788) and I’m more

than ready to find a loving home. I’m a

Seal Point Siamese/Tabby mix with bright blue eyes. I get along

well with other cats and I sure do love to be

rubbed and touched by humans. I’m so

affectionate and friendly! I can be yours, so come soon!

►I’m a precious kitten girl named Tulip (FF2987) and I long to

be someone’s cherished companion! I’m currently

at Animal Control with my mother and sister,

Piper and Pippy, who are also pictured on this

page. We were found as strays, but we each

share a very affectionate, friendly personality. It’s

just not fair that we’re alone in the world!

Would you please adopt one or more of us?

►I’ve been living at Ani-mal Control since Octo-ber and I sure would like to spend Christmas with

my new family. I can picture it now: me curled up in your lap while you drink eggnog and watch Christmas specials on TV. My name is Chloe (FF2868) and I promise

to dedicate the rest of my life to making you very

happy. I was found as a stray in Burgaw, but I

love to be held and am a “great cat”, according to the folks here. Let’s get started on our new lives together!

►Most people go “Awwww” when they see me. I guess it’s because I’m so little and cute. I am Tater Tot (FM2962), an orange and white baby boy, just 12-weeks-old, who was

found as a stray. My two brothers were with me, but

they’ve already found homes. I want a home too! I want to purr in someone’s lap or be

held in their arms. You’ll find that I’m extremely affectionate.

When they came to take my photo, all I wanted to do was be rubbed and kissed. Isn’t it

sad that I may be spending the holidays alone? Please come give me the life I deserve! I’ll be your beloved baby.

►Can you tell

we are a mother

and daughter

pair? That’s my

sweet momma, Piper,

(FF2989)on the

left. I’m Pippy (FF2988), a teeny-tiny girl who is still nursing. I’m about 4-weeks-old and my mom is about

2-years of age. We were found as strays with my older sister, Tulip, who is also pictured on this page. We

wandered up to someone’s house and they couldn’t keep us because they had big dogs. We are extra-loving and

extra-adorable. Adopt us together or separately!

I’m CoCo MoonPie and I’m an 9-year-old

female Boxer mix. Seven years ago, I

was found wandering on Highway 17 by a

kind lady who scooped me up and rescued

me. I’ve been living at Paw’s Place ever

since! Please, won’t someone take a

chance on me and bring me home? I’m a truly wonderful girl. I enjoy chew toys and being around other

dogs and people. I’m so very sweet - I love

giving lots of delicious doggie kisses. If you have a 6-foot fenced in yard and a cat-free home, I hereby promise to be your loyal, loving, lifetime buddy. To find out more, or if you

need driving directions, please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. Let’s get to know one another, OK?

Thank you!

Hello, everyone! My name is Ally and I hope you’ll

consider adopting me. I’m a 7-year-old Ridgeback/Yellow Lab mix girl who

desperately wants love and affection. I spent most of my previous life outdoors and would love a home where I can come inside and be part of the family. The folks at SOAR have

been teaching me all kinds of great things - they have

two obedience trainers who volunteer their time at the shelter and they’ve been working with me, as well as with

the other canines here. I am a little shy when you first meet me, but a few treats do wonders in warming me up quickly. You’ll see that I’m a very friendly girl! I am al-

ready spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I hope you’ll take the time to call SOAR and come out for a

visit. You’ll find a wonderful girl waiting for you! The number is 910-457-6340.

◄Hi there! I’m Lenny, a 3-year-old neutered boy who loves to be rubbed and is very sweet. In my photo you can see that I’m sitting in a window. Gazing at the world is one of my most favorite things to do! I’m also a polydactyl kitty, which means I have extra toes. They look like oven mitts. I get along well with other cats and would really love to find myself in a permanent home soon. Please come to the shelter and get to know me!

◄Hey there! Are you looking for a fun and

fabulous friend? Well, hop on in the car and come out here! My

name is Hannah and I’m a 1-year-old Lab

mix girl who is waiting to spend my life with people who love me.

Since my arrival at the shelter, I’ve been

melting hearts with my sweet nature and

playful personality. I get along well with other dogs and am

sharing a kennel with my sister, Rebecca, also pictured. Adopt me, please!

►Meow there! My name is Sweetie

because I'm one of the sweetest cats you'll ever

meet. I'm 1-year-old, spayed, vaccinated, and

litterbox-trained. I'm very affectionate and love to be cuddled. I also get

along great with the other kitties in the

playroom. You should come visit! We live in a cage-less environment, so you can really get to

know me. If you are looking for a feline best

friend, here I am!

►If you don’t mind me bragging, I’d like you to notice how I’m sitting on command! My name is Brandy

and I’m very proud of my sitting skills. I

watch people intently and do my best to please them. I’m a

20-month-old Bluetick Hound mix who is

house-trained and leash-trained. I love greeting all the

folks who come to the shelter and I get

along very well with children. I would make my new family so happy!

►Some dogs can sit on command (and I’m one of them) but did you know I

can also smile on com-mand? That’s right, I will give you a grin when you

say my name and ask me to smile. Someone

should take me on Letter-man! My name is Jasper

and I’m a sweet, affec-tionate boy, just 2-years-

old. I’m house-trained, leash-trained, neutered and vaccinated. Come meet me so I can show

you my pretty smile!

►Since my arrival at the shelter, I’ve been settling

in nicely and making friends with everyone! My name is Rebecca and I’m a 1-year-old Lab mix who was first spotted by the

Humane Society at Pender County Animal

Control. My sister and I had been found as strays. (Hannah is on this page,

too.) I am already spayed, up to date on

shots and on heartworm prevention. I’m gentle,

sweet and precious. Could I please be yours? I bet we’d be a great team!

Hello There! Looking for a low maintenance, healthy, doggie com-

panion who loves walks and even a little alone time for herself? You have found her! My name is Chantik and I'm a 6 to 7-year-old Golden Retriever

and Aussie mix. I am a good girl and have a few quirks in my per-sonality, but hey...that makes a girl more in-teresting right? I'm house-trained and a

great travel size if you are on-the-go! I'm not all that fond of young children, so I would be best placed in a home

without them. If you are interested in giving me a chance at a new forever home, please contact the Cape Fear

Golden Retriever Rescue at 910-791-5001 or log onto their site at www.cfgoldenrescue.com.

I am sponsored by Priscilla Skare in loving memory of

I’m a very handsome cat named Track! I’ve got

quite a story to tell, too. I was found in a parking lot

by a vet tech who just hap-pened to see me huddled under a car. I was afraid to move and, because it was 94 degrees outside,

all four of my feet and even my tummy were burned

from the hot pavement. I needed water, food and help. Luckily, I got all

three and now I’m doing great! I’m completely healed and I’m ready to find a wonderful new home. I’m a 3-year-old boy who is neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I’m good with children and friendly to dogs and other cats. In

fact, while staying temporarily in a foster home, I came nose to nose with the family dog and didn’t even bat an

eye. I also spent time with a 10-week-old kitten and was very gentle. I’ll be a wonderful companion for some lucky person or family. If you’d like to adopt me, please call Cat

Looking for a kinder, gentler, way of training? Do you want a dog that WANTS to please you instead of a dog that is afraid of you? Come to us!

Precious Puppy Alert!! I have a

scruffy face, too, for all you scruffy-

lovers. My name is Alex and I’m a 7 to 9-month-old Terrier mix girl. Just look at my photo and you will be able to read my personality - I’m happy, friendly and

excited to make new friends. I was found by SOAR at Brunswick County

Animal Control, running out of time. My sister, Chloe,

was with me. She’s also looking for a home. (And yes, she’s just as ador-able as me!) I am such a smart girl. I can sit on com-mand and will take treats ever so gently from your fin-gers. I love to run, skip and play and I also enjoy cud-

dling with my human friends. Everyone is my buddy and everyone loves me. There is just something so achingly sweet about the way I gaze up at you with my soft brown

eyes. If you’d like to offer your heart and home to me, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. Before you know it,

happy one it once was? My name is

Misty (CF3021) and I’m a black Lab mix with a wavy coat of

hair. I’m such a pretty girl and I am always smiling de-

spite my sad circum-stances. I was so excited to come out of my kennel for my photo, and I sat down on command as soon as they asked me. I’m already spayed, so my new family won’t have to

worry about that expense. I’m good on a leash, I listen well and I enjoy dog cookies. I’ve been living here since October and I need to find a home soon! They have so many dogs

here and not enough room for us all. Would you please come visit? You’ll get a warm reception, I promise! Call

Hello there, my name is Ranger! I’m

a 2½ to 3-year-old Hound mix, weighing in at approximately 53 pounds, and I

love to snuggle! If you get too close, you may find me

sprawled across your lap or trying to rest my head on your shoulder. I was

found in a residential area and was very thin. I also had a

broken leg and other medical needs. My compassionate res-cuers took care of me and now I’m in excellent health and my leg is healed! I’m heartworm negative, crate-trained and neutered. I love to go on walks and play with other

animals. You’ll find I’m a very loyal, playful and affection-ate boy who bonds instantly with those who show me affection. I’m looking for a loving, permanent home

where I will be part of a family. If you think you’re the one for me, please contact Bena at 910-367-8700.

Whoa! Check out my one blue eye! It’s quite striking and

goes really well with my brown eye, don’t you think? My name is Alicia and I'm a

3-year-old female Hound dog-gie who is looking for a home.

As far as my name goes, I love it. I was named after a sweet and compassionate

volunteer who spent countless hours with those like me

searching for woofever and purrever homes. I’m bound to

bring happiness and good karma into your life after being

named for a person like that! And here’s more good news: I’m spayed, current on all vaccinations and on heartworm

preventative. I get along well with other dogs, love going for walks, and am very friendly to all my human friends. If you’d like to meet me in person, call Pender County Humane Soci-ety at 910-259-7022. They can answer any questions you might have or give you driving directions. See you soon!

◄Hi! My name is Dixie Too and I’m

a young Lab mix girl, just 11-months-old. I love playing with toys and have a

friendly personality. I adore people and want to be around them all the time. Since I’m active, a home with kids age

ten or older would be perfect! I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

prevention. I’m good with other dogs and

walk well on a leash. Come spend some time with me!

►My name is Kameron, but you can call me

Kami for short! I’m an adorable male kitten,

just 12-weeks-old. I was bottlefed as a baby, so

I’m quite comfortable being held. I get along well with other cats and am neutered, up to date

on shots and litterbox-trained. I also love

sleeping in bed with my humans. Adopt me and

I’ll keep you warm this winter! Give my SOAR

foster mom a call at 910-278-7901 and let’s meet.

►I’m a declawed beauty with a friendly personality and a desire to be loved! Would you please take me home? My name is Elly and I was once part of a family but my young

owners moved into a home with a relation who doesn’t like cats. Wow, I didn’t know people like

that existed! I love to be held, enjoy attention and my sweet temperament

suggests I’d be great with children. At only 2-years-old, I’ve got a lot of memories to make with you!

►My name is Izzy and I’m a loving girl, just 4-years-old, who is friendly to eve-ryone I meet. I am already

house-trained, leash-trained and obedient - I know how to sit on com-mand. I get along great with children and other

dogs. I’m a perfect size at 32 pounds - not too big and not too small. They tell me I’m a Lab/Terrier mix. I’m

already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-

tion. I’m such a happy, friendly girl and I love to receive attention. Why not bring your kids to SOAR and

meet me? I’d love to go for a walk on the grounds. You just might realize I’m the companion you’ve been searching for!

►I’m an adorable kitten named Streak! I was

born on April 14 and was found as an orphan,

completely alone. I’m now having fun in my foster home and I get

along well with a big dog and several other cats

and kittens. I’m extremely playful and

healthy as can be! I am pure white except for a black ‘streak’

between my ears. If you are interested in an exceptionally beautiful white male kit-

ten, call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437.

◄I’m Peaches, a laid-back and

loving girl! When they

came to take my photo, all I wanted to do was curl up in

this cat bed and let them rub me! I’m very friendly and so happy to meet new peo-

ple. I was found on someone’s doorstep and soon gave birth to five kittens. They’ve all been adopted and now it’s my turn! I’m just 1½-

years-old, healthy, spayed and ready to cuddle with you!

I’ve been told I’m an extra-adorable kitten! So why don’t I have a

home? My name is Ben and I was found in a

vacant lot in Southport. For a while I lived in a

foster home and I wanted desperately to

play with the other kitties there. I have a submis-sive, friendly nature and

was just looking for a buddy. Now I’m at

SOAR and I’m stealing the hearts of all I meet. I love to play with toys, but I will also flop in your arms

and am content to be held. At 6-months-old, I’m a small boy who is already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I love getting attention and am an all-around

super companion. If your current cat is lonely, I’d be a great addition. I’d also be a lifelong friend to you and

your children. Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and tell them you’d like to make my acquaintance. You can

bet I’ll be happy to meet you, too!

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.

Hey there, everyone! My name is Casey and I'm a

2 to 3-year-old female English Foxhound looking

for my woofever home! I'm spayed, current on my

vaccinations, leash-trained and on heartworm

prevention. Several months ago, I was found running around as a stray

by a nice lady and was brought here to the Pen-

der County Humane Soci-ety. I love meeting all the new people coming to the

shelter, but I especially love playing with the other

homeless dogs. Do you have a dog who could use a buddy? Bring him or her out here and let’s have a playdate!

You never know, you just might want to bring me home. Although they’re nice to me here, I'm hoping to find some-

one who will give me all of the attention and loving I crave. If that could be you, let’s meet! For directions or any other

info, please call the shelter at 910-259-7022.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Sunburst Foundation of Wilmington Please call 910-622-0011 or email [email protected] to adopt us!

Blue Hand Home presents the 1st annual Cape Fear Dragon Boat Race and Festival slated for Saturday, June 4th. Wounded Warriors and Sunburst Foundation will be

the recipients. Sunburst Foundation will be using the bulk of the funds raised to help cats and dogs at Pender County Animal Control. By purchasing a seat on a long boat, your

seat will be $50 and you will need to raise at least $50 in pledges. That $100 can provide spay/neutering services for 1 dog or 2 cats, heartworm testing for 10 dogs, Pro-

heart injections (heartworm preventative) for 4-5 canines, etc. Sunburst Foundation has worked to develop pro-

grams at the municipal shelter with the goal of helping to establish a model shelter for other AC's to follow. Please be a part of this proactive approach to helping homeless

cats and dogs have a voice. For more information, please visit the website at www.capefeardragonboat.com.

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I am doing fine in getting along with other dogs and have

been working with an obedi-ence trainer. I would love to continue obedience training with my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄Hello! This happy face belongs to me, Ming Ming! At just 2-years of age, I’m a

Boxer/American Bulldog mix girl. I have a very

sweet personality and get along just fine with other dogs and people. I’m al-ready house-trained and crate-trained and I walk

well on a leash. I am also very happy to sit on com-mand for treats! And yes,

I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-vention. Don’t waste another moment - call today!

◄My name is Gracie (CF3047) and

I’m a young Greyhound mix girl with a friendly

personality and a beautiful brindle coat. I was found as a stray in Burgaw and

have been living at Pender County Animal Control

since October! Sunburst is giving me this space on

their page so that I might have extra exposure. I am a very nice girl who simply

wants to be part of a family. To adopt me, call Pender County Animal Control

at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196.

◄I’m Hero, and when I posed for this photo, my

smiling face certainly disguised the rough shape

I was in. You see, the Sunburst Foundation later took me to the vet for an exam, and I had three

decayed molars that had to be extracted, erlichiosis (from tick exposure) and heartworm disease. I am now recovering nicely in a

foster home and doing well. Unfortunately, my medical bill is rising and will

continue to rise while I undergo heartworm treatment. Any donations toward my medical care would be greatly

appreciated. Please send your tax-deductible donation to: Sunburst Foundation, P.O. Box 7527, Wilmington, NC 28406. Thanks for helping me heal - I’m a sweetheart!

◄I’m Dawson and I love all people, especially children! I’m a 3 to 4-year-old, flat-coated Re-triever mix and I’d dearly love to belong to your family. I am house-trained, crate-trained, neutered, vaccinated, and on heartworm prevention. I play well with other dogs and I’ve had no problem with cats. Call today so we can meet real soon!

Scrap For Scrappy Adopt-an-ANGEL is announc-ing a new fundraising program called Scrap for Scrappy. Don't just let it lay there in the yard or garage or be-hind the shed getting rustier as every day goes by - put it to work. Just call Adopt-an-Angel, a 501c3 homeless animal rescue, and they will haul it away for you for free! They will then use the proceeds to help homeless animals in the area. Please call 910-392-0557 today and help homeless pets! It's a WIN-WIN situation for everyone.

There will be adoptable canines on hand, and Ali will be donating her services of all nail clippings done that day from 1pm-3pm to Sunburst’s fund for heartworm treatment. Be sure to bring your pooch at that time if you would like to get a nail trim. Sunburst has set up several programs for Pender County Animal Control (PCAC) canines that include spay/neuter and heartworm testing and treatment. They will also be holding raffles and tickets for a painting done by Netop, the famous painting dog. Netop’s “Falling Leaves” will also be available. Netop is also raising funds for canines in the area with medical needs, including Hero, one of Sunburst Foundation’s homeless dogs. Donations of pet food, lit-ter, and cleaning products for the PCAC shelter will be collected. For more info, contact Sunburst Foundation at [email protected] or call 910-622-0011.

Donate Dog Igloos to Canines in Need Pender County Animal Control is in need of Dog Igloos for its homeless canines. The county shelter is fiscally challenged and desperately needs your help in providing this necessary item. Dog Igloos can be hosed down regularly and are easily moved from place to place. Wooden dog houses are against shelter regulations and cannot be used. There must be some mistake! I

was featured on the cover of PawPrints in October, but I never found my future fam-ily! I got lots of com-pliments on my su-permodel pose, but

I’m still living alone at the shelter. If you

saw me and consid-ered adopting me, please call today!!

I’d be a GREAT fam-ily addition. My

name is Luna and I’m a 2-year-old Ter-rier mix who is ex-

tremely laid-back and easy-going. They dressed me in a tiara, pearls and tutu for my photo shoot, and I didn’t mind a bit! You’ll find that I’m a darling, awesome girl who has

NO issues. I’m already house-trained, leash-trained, spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I adore

other dogs and I love people, especially kids. I behave beautifully at adoption fairs and am instant friends with

everyone who approaches, from young to old. I love giv-ing and receiving hugs and am always happy to be by

your side. Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and tell them you’d like to meet me!

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

Thank you!

If you’ve always loved Dachs-hunds, you’re in for a real treat!

My name is Ranger and I’m the red-gold, short-haired boy

at the top. Below me is my friend, Dillon. He is a long-

haired, black and tan boy. We are both 4-years-old and have been at the shelter for about a month. Our former owner be-came ill and could no longer

keep us. We were a little shy when we first arrived, but it’s

amazing what a few treats and biscuits from Hardees can do!

Now we are very happy to meet new people...and yes,

we’re even happier if they give us treats. We’ll nibble them

gently right out of your fingers! We are both friendly, affection-ate, neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. You can adopt us separately or, if you have trouble choosing,

adopt both of us! Please call Pender County Humane Soci-ety at 910-259-7022 for more information on taking one or

both of us home.

We are sponsored by Jim and Linda Strauss in loving memory of Ziggy.

Sweet and Petite, that's what my foster mom calls me.

Although, I'm more of a mom than her! I was used as a

puppy mill dog and when my previous owners were done

using me for that, they dropped me off at a shelter.

My first check up didn't go all that well after a life outside with little veterinary care. I had three types of worms,

including heartworms. I also had tumors all over (which is a good reason to spay and neu-

ter folks). Luckily, all of my tumors came back benign!

The vet says that is good news and hopefully removing my "estrogen source" will eliminate future tumors. Lastly, I was

underweight, but I love to eat and have had no problem putting on the right amount of weight. I am probably be-

tween 3 to 5-years-old, and weigh around 55 pounds. I am an excellent leash walker and am very treat motivated for

training. I would love to snuggle on your couch and I do get along with other dogs. I am an experienced mommy, so rowdy dogs will have to listen to me. I am so cuddly and affectionate. I do not chew on non-toy items, which is a definite plus to adopting a lady at my young age. I also

rarely bark, so I could probably be content in an apartment, going on nice frequent walks. After what I've been through, I really don't need much. Just someone who will love me

and who I can depend on. Is that you? Visit our website at www.nobleshepherdrescue.com or call 910-431-6294.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital in

loving memory of Duke Harmon.

We’re Declawed Darlings Who’d Love To Find A Home Together!

Just look at how we share one cat bed! We’re a

brother/sister duo who will give you double the love

and affection. My name is Finn and I’m the boy

standing tall in the photo. My sister, Tucker, is lay-ing down. We are happy, healthy, friendly and lov-ing. We both get along

great with children, other cats and also dogs. I’m a sweet, snuggly boy. I love to be out among the com-motion, observing every-one from my perch. I’m very puppy-like and will faithfully

follow my person from room to room. I’m very playful and I love to be carried around. They tell me I’m a cool, laid-

back boy. As for my sister...well, she’s a sweetheart! She loves to watch birds from the window and will even try to mimic their chirping. She adores paper balls and, after a

few throws, will even bring the ball back to you! She’s very loving and thrives in a home with another cat. At 6-years-old, we’re looking for a home where we can be indoors-

only. Since we have no claws, we wouldn’t be able to de-fend ourselves outside. That’s just fine with us, as we’re very happy being house cats and gazing out windows. If you’d like to make our dreams come true, please call Cat

Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 or come visit us at Petsmart in Wilmington. We’re there seven days a week!

Hello up there! Want to go for a roll in the grass with me? My name is Sheba and

I’m a very friendly girl, just 1-year-old. I was

found as a stray in someone’s yard. As you can see, I’m a

small-sized girl with a slender build. I’m a

beautiful creamy-white and I have the softest brown eyes ever! I’ve

heard some people say that they think I’m a Saluki mix. I’m do-

ing great at the shelter and am happy and

playful. I get along well with everyone - adults, children, dogs and even cats. I’ve also already been spayed, vacci-nated and placed on heartworm prevention. If you’re look-ing for a real sweetheart to spend the rest of your life with,

I hope you’ll consider me. Just call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and they’ll tell you how we can get together!

Purrfect Pet Adoptions Please call 910-329-4700 to adopt us!

We are sponsored in honor of all cats and kittens who have found loving homes with forever families.

◄I’m a 1-year-old girl named Bingo and I’d love to be part of your family! I’m a very sweet and friendly feline who gets along well with other kitties. I am already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and litterbox-trained. I’m a quiet girl who just wants a nice, cozy life with people who adore me. Oh, and if you have a peacock feather or a few toys for me to play with, that would be great, too. Swing by today!

►My name is Jack and I’m not at all a wiggle

worm. No sir, when you hold me in your arms, I don’t try to get down. I

stay put and make biscuits with my paws. Some cats don’t like to

be held, but not me! I’m a 7-month-old boy who was found in a cardboard box on a

hot day. I was so very tiny at the time. I was bottlefed by my foster mom, so I’m extremely comfortable being with humans. Come over and meet me today! I’ll be happy to let you hold me.

►I was abandoned as a baby kitten, so my

wonderful foster mom held me in her arms and gave me formula from a baby

bottle. Being held like that has made me extra sweet

and friendly toward humans. I’m quite accustomed to

being kissed and cuddled! My name is Stanley and I’m

a 6-month-old boy who is neutered, vaccinated and

litterbox-trained. I’m great with other cats and I’d love

to be your best friend!

►A very kind lady found me in her neighborhood.

Someone had abandoned me on the street! My name

is Hershel and I’m a 6-month-old kitten with

sleek, soft, ebony-colored fur. I’m a very sweet boy

who would be perfect in any household. You see, I get along well with other cats but I also am fine on my

own. I like to be held, but I don’t mind being at home while you go to work. I’m

loving, but not clingy. I’d be such a wonderful addition to your household. Come visit!

►The power of prayer works! You see, I

was at a local church praying for someone to help me. Next thing I

know, I’ve been scooped up and carried to safety.

Now all I need is a family! My name is Princeton and I’m a

7-month-old male kitten. I’m a loving boy who is happy to be held and

kissed. In fact, they call me a certified “people cat” and an “absolute

doll”. You can rub my belly and flop me

around. If it’s affection you want, be sure to adopt me!

◄▲We two brothers - Stark and Eric - were found all by ourselves

on a neighborhood street. I’m Stark, the Tabby on the left with the white chest. Eric has a glossy black coat. We

are just 7-months-old and have friendly, affectionate per-sonalities. We’re already neutered, vaccinated and litter-

box-trained. You can adopt us separately or together!

Hi there, my name is Knut! If you’re wondering how to

pronounce my name, it rhymes

with ‘cute’. Pretty appropriate, huh? I’m a male Mal-

tese/Shih Tzu mix, just 3 to 4-years-old, and I weigh

approximately 12 pounds. I’m cur-rently sharing a

foster home with a few other dogs, and we all get along well. I’m already

house-trained and I love to play! Just give me a doggie toy to chew on or toss around and I’m happy. You may think I’m a bit shy when we first meet but don’t worry, I warm up quickly. I’m very affectionate and enjoy being held. As for my health, I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. If you’d like to meet me, please call NC Res-

Do you like to give belly rubs? Because I sure do like to receive them! My name is Abigail and I’m waiting here for some-one to love me. I have an innocent heart and a calm, cuddly demeanor.

I’m not a jumpy girl. Instead, I’ll just roll over

on my back for...you guessed it...belly rubs! I

have beautiful auburn hair and am already

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-tion. They tell me I’m

only 1-year-old and am a Shepherd mix. I was found as a stray in Hampstead and I get along well with other dogs.

Do you have a dog who could use a friend? I’m great with humans, too. And since I’m leash-trained, it’ll be easy for you to lead me out of here! Please call Pender County

Humane Society at 910-259-7022 so that we can meet in the very near future. You’ll be so glad you did!

herd mix girl with unique yellow and gold brindle coloring. At around 1½

to 2-years-old, I am already spayed, vacci-

nated and on heartworm prevention. I have a

sweet personality, lots of energy, and love to run and play. I need my furever

home before it gets much colder outside! If you’d like to share your life with a happy and friendly playmate, please

call PEAR at 910-675-0867 or send an email to [email protected] for more information.

DOOK-N-DANCE FERRET SHELTER

My name is Digger and I’m a sweet little boy who is 8-years-old. I came from a very abusive situation where I was left in a small cat carrier with no

food or water. I was infested with fleas and extremely emaciated. That was about 3-months ago. I have now

fattened up and am enjoying twice daily feedings. I get along with some

other ferrets and cannot be adopted to anyone with children or small dogs. To sponsor my care or adopt me, please email at [email protected] or call 910-548-2831. You can also view other ferrets by visiting

Imagine well-trained me, trotting proudly by your side as we take our daily walk! My name is Chaz and I will be the very next graduate of A Shelter Friend’s New Leash on Life Program at the Bladen County Cor-rectional facility. In this program I

have learned excellent manners like sit, stay, come, heel, plus more! They say I am “just a doll,” a happy, young,

medium-sized boy who gets along well with other dogs. Don’t you know I would make the

perfect addition to your family? I’ve already been neutered and vaccinated. Please call Denise at 910-862-1728 to

learn how we can meet! I can’t wait, can you?! No one will ever love you like a dog who was once abandoned, visit A Shelter Friend online at www.AShelterFriend.org and on

A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is Amos and I'm a 10 to 12-month-old

Chesapeake Retriever mix. I'm looking for a home to call my own. I was res-cued because someone

couldn’t resist helping my big happy-go-lucky self. I

love the water, going swim-ming, taking walks, running

(I love to run) and I looooove "Belly Rubs" and

my toys, especially my tennis ball. I'm not really good with small dogs or cats, I hate them. I'm completely house-trained, up to date on all shots, wormed and neutered

and just sitting here waiting for you to contact someone about me. Please call Columbus Humane Society at 910-640-1505 or email [email protected].

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

My name is Frankie. I am a female Ringneck parrakeet and am 8-years-

old. As I have grown older, I have be-come more vocal and my current own-ers are no longer able to keep me as

they are expecting a new baby and are afraid I may scare the baby. I am used

to having playtime outside of and on top of my cage daily. I love to get regu-lar spray baths and have a great deal of fun playing with paper towel rolls. My

favorite treats are kiwi fruit and apples. I am looking for that loving family who understands Ringneck parrakeets and desperately need a foster home. Won't you please give me a chance? To foster or adopt me, or another of

the many parrots of all species, contact Phoenix Landing at www.phoenixlanding.org (click on adoption/foster), email us

at [email protected] or call 866-749-5634.

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Shelley and I am a 3-year-old, sweet girl. I had

a nice home but everything turned upside down and the

next thing I knew, I was homeless. My owner's

brother had a long term ill-ness and life for me became difficult. I was biting my tail because of my nerves. I’ve

been to the vet, been checked out and I am doing much better. I need a quiet, loving

home with someone to take care of me and love on me. I will sit in your lap and purr and I like to be petted. Email

[email protected] or call 910-200-0612 to find out more about me. To meet some of the other kitties here, visit

heartworms and am undergoing treatment (at no additional cost

to my adoptive family). I’m good with people, cats and other

dogs, I like to play but I also like to relax and cuddle. I’m well-

mannered so I’ll be good for apartment life or a house with a fence yard to play in would be lovely, too. If you are look-

ing for a cuddly Lap Dog, please consider adopting me. For more information, please call 910-383-2100 (Monday

Monique Monet

Hello there! My name is Storm, but your life will be nothing but sunshine if you adopt me! Like most Labs, I’m friendly and playful and happy

to meet everyone. I will be a great companion for some lucky person

or family. At just 2-years-old, I’m house-

trained, great with chil-dren and friendly to other dogs and cats.

I’m just 44 pounds, not too big and not too

small. I can sit on com-mand and I love to play catch with a ball. I give lots of attention to the people in my

life and I’m already neutered and vaccinated. I’m not overly active and am just an all-around good fellow. I’m

used to living indoors with the family and playing outside in the fenced-in yard. Do I sound like the right boy for you? If

so, please call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 and let’s meet!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan.

Please consider adoption.

MID-ATLANTIC GREAT DANE RESCUE LEAGUE

Hi, my name is Elvis. I'm a 6-year-old Dane. I have a benign growth on the top of my head, but it does-n't bother me! When I first arrived in my foster home, I was unsure

around men and would growl when they came near my crate. I wasn't sure how to act when other dogs got in my face or too many were

around. I have since become very comfortable with the men at doggie daycare and I get along well with

all dogs. I still back up when dogs crowd me or get in my face. I am a sweet old man who deserves a loving home that will give me all the kisses I

deserve. For more info about me or to give me a forever home, please contact the NC Chapter Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League by calling Terri at 252-566-8934 or

visiting www.magdrl.org.

If you are looking for a happy, fun loving little girl who loves to play in the backyard and chase tennis

balls, then look no further! I’m Molly, a 5-year-old salt and pep-per mini-Schnauzer who weighs just 14 pounds. I am being fos-

tered with two other dogs and get along well with them. I do have a bit of a “queen bee” personality

sometimes and I do like to compete for attention. If my new home will have other 4-legged brothers or sisters, it is important to remember to introduce us all properly. I am

spayed, vaccinated, house and crate-trained but honestly, I am not too crazy about my crate. I will make some loving

home absolutely complete! If you are interested in me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can fill

out an application online and view other adoptable res-cues. If you need an application mailed or faxed to you,

please call 910-264-8300.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

Hey Y'all. Not sure why, but after months in a foster home I am still waiting for my forever home. My name is Oreo, AKA Mousse, (yes there is a story behind my name) and I'm around 3-years-old. I'm mostly Golden Retriever. I have

looks and charm, I'm house-trained, like cats, love to play with

other dogs, will even cuddle on furniture (if you let me) and love

car rides. I'm starting to get what they call "holiday depression." I love my foster family, but I

am getting really tired of being in this magazine every month (no offense please, PawPrints). Won't you please

give me a chance at a forever home? If you are interested in having me make your holidays brighter, please contact the Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue at 910-791-5001

or log onto their site at www.cfgoldenrescue.com.

CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE

My name is Buster and I’m a sweet, gorgeous, 2-year-old Boxer boy.

What I lack in training, I make up for with my friendly demeanor and funny

antics! I am quite the athlete - I’ve mastered jumping high, running fast,

and chasing my nub. I’m house-trained and kennel-trained. I have

been busy learning proper dog manners and I am good with other female dogs. Would you like to make me part

of your family? Please call 910-799-5638 or visit our website at www.carolinaboxerrescue.org for info.

Hi, my name is Tina. I am a small girl and also very quiet, gentle and sweet natured. I get along very well with all

my friends at the kennel. I hate to brag but everyone just loves me to pieces. I would like to find a great

family who will just spoil me rotten and give me lots of toys and a very nice, soft and cushy bed to sleep on. In return I will give you all my love and

devotion for the rest of our lives. Please contact Barbara at 910-540-

9644 for more info on adopting me or one of my friends. You can view other greyhounds looking

for good homes at www.greyhoundfriends.com.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Hello everyone, my name is Chester. I like other dogs, big

and small, and don't mind cats at all. I like small children and have a relaxed and quiet personality.

Now, what I would really love is a great place to sunbathe, because that is one of my favorite activi-ties! I am also house-trained!!

Not only am I one handsome guy, but I have a sweet personality, too. I would love a chance at a real forever home where I won't have to worry about

being left without someone to care for me. Apply to adopt and tell the adoption coordinator that you are interested in me, Chester Copperpot! To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at

My name is Ellie and I am a

fun, playful, energetic girl who would do best in a home with a fenced in

yard. I am spayed, up to

date on my vac-cinations and

heartworm negative. I do

great with other dogs. I was

adopted as a puppy and returned by my family because they felt that they couldn't meet my needs. What I need

right now is a new family. It's very sad for me to be stuck in a cage at a boarding facility. Please don't let me be

homeless for 6-months, like some of these other guys I am looking at! HOW SAD! I would benefit from a fenced in

yard or even if you had a lonely, lazy dog who needs some exercise. If you would like to know more about me or

would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by the Miss Avis Davis Fund, thanks!

My name is Barley and I am a very, very, sweet fellow. I love people and other animals. I love going on walks, belly

rubs, hanging out at the park or beach. Where ever you want to go, I love to go, too!! I have one blue eye and one brown eye (so cool), four white paws and a brindle coat.

As you can see, I am bubbling with joy now that my heart-worm treatment is completed. Whoever adopts me will receive all the joy I have to give for giving me a second chance! Please contact 910-294-1589 to inquire about

fostering or adopting me.
