Project HOME was born on February 1, 2013 when My Father’s House co-signed the lease on a three bedroom duplex. Sixty-five volunteers have invested over three hundred hours to prepare a welcoming supportive environment for the three men who will make the duplex their home. More than fifty families have donated furnishings or supplies to make the home move in ready. Project HOME is a labor of love and we praise the Lord for His guidance and provisions!

My Father’s House is a faith based non-profit which has been involved in establishing twenty-five homes in fifteen Minnesota counties. My Father’s House enters a community upon invitation and engages local churches, businesses and organizations who partner to support the re-entry of citizens into their own communities. Together we establish recovery accountability communities as we live out Matthew 25: 35-45. The goal is to be tireless in an effort to house, feed, clothe and employ those in recovery and restoration after incarceration. We have the opportunity to walk with the men as they strive to live a God honoring and sustainable life.

Opportunities for you to become involved

Jail Chaplains has had a presence in Fargo for 33 years providing a volunteer Chaplain for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Chaplain Mike Sonju and a team of volunteers provide 20+ hours of faith based programs in the jail each week, they have relationships with the men and witnessed their desire to live life differently with Jesus as their pilot. Referrals for residence in Project HOME will come through Jail Chaplains.

We believe the partnership of My Father’s House and Jail Chaplains working together with local churches, businesses and organizations is God ordained. It is an answered prayer for a way to meet the urgent need for safe and supportive housing for inmates leaving jail in Fargo Moorhead.

WHAT IS PROJECT HOME?Project HOME is a community effort focused on providing healthy re-entry opportunities, accountable housing, mentoring and employment assistance for men in recovery after leaving incarceration. My Father’s House has leased a three-bedroom duplex located at 1316 3rd Avenue North in Fargo with space for future expansion next door.

IS PROJECT HOME A HALF-WAY HOUSE OR TREATMENT PROGRAM?No, Project HOME is a permanent housing option. The men will pay rent and are asked to sign a minimum 6 month lease with an option to extend. The residents are required to be employed and are encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle with guidelines and expectations based on Biblical principles.

WHO IS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR PROJECT HOME?

WHAT IS JAIL CHAPLAINS INVOLVEMENT WITH PROJECT HOME/MY FATHER’S HOUSE? Jail Chaplains has been very involved in the start-up of Project HOME by serving as the primary communication hub for organizing the leadership team, as well as donations and volunteers involved in furnishing and preparing the home. Because of the 20+ hours of programing Jail Chaplains provides at the Cass County Jail each week, Chaplain Mike and a team of volunteers have developed relationships with the inmates, which permits our ministry to be the natural referral path for potential residents of Project HOME. The Jail Chaplains board and staff desire to be faithful to the ministry inside the Cass County Jail. At the same time we seek the Lord’s desire for our involvement with the continued development of a recovery accountability community in Fargo-Moorhead. We believe that involves being strong advocates for My Father’s House by continuing to raise the awareness of the responsibility we have as people of faith to walk with our brothers and sisters in Christ as they leave incarceration, by sharing in-kind ministry resources and by connecting My Father’s House staff with leaders in Fargo Moorhead.

HOW WILL RESIDENTS FOR PROJECT HOME BE SELECTED?Interested individuals will be asked to write their personal story, which will be submitted to the Screening Committee who will conduct interviews and select the residents. Chaplain Mike will serve on the Screening Committee along with several other volunteers from the community.
