——PUBLIC PARKING AREAS——On-street parking is available in the historic district with a three-hour time limit from 7am-7pm. Downtown Fernandina has several locations for public parking which are exempt from the general three-hour time limit for on-street parking. These lots are located at:
· Parking lots located on Front St. by the waterfront· The corner of South 2nd and Ash St. on the west side of
City Hall· The corner of North 2nd and Alachua St.· The library parking lot on North 3rd St.· The unit block of South 4th St. on the west side· The unit block of North 5th St. on the west side

Always use caution when driving through the downtown area.
· Follow posted signage regarding maximum parking times
· Be aware of one-way streets· Watch for pedestrians· Allow a minimum of 10 feet for traffic lanes when
on-street parking· Do not cross traffic to park your vehicle· Semi-trailer trucks must use posted routes for deliveries· Use caution when backing up. Almost 50% of all traffic
crashes in Fernandina Beach occur when a vehicle is being backed out from a parking space
· Note that special parking regulations may be in effect during holidays and special events
——COMMON PARKING ORDINANCES——Sec. 78-76. – Maximum parking time on streets.No person who owns or has possession, custody or control of any vehicle shall park that vehicle on any street or alley of this city for more than a consecutive period of 60 hours. Sec. 78-77. – Time limit in designated places.(a) When signs are erected in each block giving notice thereof, no person shall park a vehicle for longer than such times as may be posted thereon.(b) The changing of the position of a vehicle from one point directly to another point within the same block shall be deemed one continuous parking period.
Sec. 78-79. – Passenger and loading zones.(a) Passenger zones: No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle for any purpose or period of time other than for the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers in any place marked as a passenger zone during the hours when the regulations applicable to that passenger zone are effective, and then only for a period not the exceed three minutes. Sec. 78-82. – Washing, display or sale of parked vehicle; sales or advertising from parked vehicle.(a) No person shall stand or park a vehicle upon any roadway for the principal purpose of: (1) Displaying it for sale; or (2) Washing, greasing or repairing such vehicle, except for repairs necessitated by an emergency.(b) No person shall operate or park on any street any vehicle for the primary purpose of advertising or for the sale of any merchandise or anything of value unless a permit therefore is first obtained. Sec. 78-83. – Manner of parking.(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a two-way roadway shall be so stopped or parked with right-hand wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.
(b) Except when otherwise provided by local ordinance, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a one-way roadway shall be so stopped or parked parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway, in the direction of authorized traffic movement, with its right-hand wheels within 12 inches of the left-hand curb or edge of the roadway.(c) Exemptions to manner of parking will be granted to public safety vehicles and public service vehicles when in the performance of their official duties these vehicles cannot be parked legally. Sec. 78-85. – Handicapped parking.No vehicle shall stop, stand or park within any specially designated and marked handicapped parking space provided in accordance with F.S. section 316.1955, unless such vehicle displays a parking permit issues pursuant to F.S. section 316.1958 or 320. 0848, and/or such vehicle is transporting a person eligible for the parking permit. Sec. 78-88. – Backing up to curb.No vehicle shall be backed up to any curb on a public street except during the time the vehicle is actually being loaded or unloaded.
