INTRODUCTION Pantaloons Retail (India) limited, is a large Indian

retailer owned by Aditiya birla group. Operates in multiple retail formats in both, value and

lifestyle; segments of the Indian consumer market. Pranab Barua (Managing Director)

Shital Mehta (CEO ) Headquartered in Mumbai. The company has over 1,000 stores across 71 cities in

India and employs over 40,000 people.  According to the Brand Trust Report 2014, a study

conducted by Trust Research Advisory, Pantaloons featured among 100 most trusted brands in India

HISTORYOriginally incorporated as Manz Wear Private Limited

on October 12, 1987.The Company’s name was changed to Manz Wear

Limited on September 20,1991, further to Pantaloon Fashions (India) Limited on September 25, 1992 and to Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited on July 7 1999

Pantaloon comes from the Italian word pantalone, which in turn was derived from a character in a seventeenth century comedy play.

First open showroom in Kolkata in 1997.Pantaloons previously owned by future group was taken

over by Aditya birla group in 2012.

Greencard,which is a unique loyalty programs, has been designed exclusively for Pantaloons' customers to enhance customer experience.

Presently offered to over 4 million members, the programs entitles members to discounts in terms of points and special privileges at all Pantaloons stores.

POSITIONING STRATEGYInitially positioned as a family store, it finally veered towards becoming a fashion store with and emphasis on youths and clear focus on ‘FRESH FASHION’. They are targeting youth and even women, since they are the ones defining most purchasing decisions.

REVENUE In the second quarter of FY15, the

Aditya Birla Nuvo-owned department store chain posted a like-to-like growth of 8.9 per cent and an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation(margin growth of four percentage points).

This is the highest growth for Pantaloons after it was taken over from Kishore Biyani-led Future Group.

FUTURE PLANSPantaloons plans to invest Rs 125

crore.

The company is targeting to launch 30-35 stores across the country during 2015-16 and focus will be on expanding customer reach and portfolio enrichment.
