DESCRIPTION

Cancer Prognosis information in the Pancreas. PrognostiCheck is a scoring system based upon an electrical measurement of cellular architecture of a patient. The study utilizes an electrical illustration of the cell-wall membrane of a phospho-lipid bi-layer cell who's ability to act as a capacitor and hold the electrical signal is indicative of the health of the patient. It detects the presence and severity of Cancer, the effectiveness of Cancer treatment, the burden of the illness on the individual patient and whether they are recovering.

The pancreas is a gland that is about 6 inches long and is shaped like a thin pear lying on its side.

The wider end of the pancreas is called the head, the middle section is called the body, and the narrow end is called the tail.

The pancreas lies behind the stomach and in front of the spine.

Connected to the intestines the pancreas provides hormones for digestion as well as insulin to control the body’s utilization of glucose (sugar).

Almost 95 percent of pancreatic cancer cases begin in the ducts that carry pancreatic juices (exocrine cells).

Pancreatic cancer is a disease in which cancer cells (malignant cells that grow in an uncontrolled manner) first form in the tissues of the pancreas.

Research has shown that people with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop pancreatic cancer.

Having a family history of pancreatic, colon or ovarian cancer are some of the factors that put you at a higher risk of developing this type of cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer usually begins in the ducts that carry the pancreatic juices. When cancer cells begin to grow, they tend to spread more deeply into the pancreas and other surrounding areas (such as the lymph nodes, the liver, and the lungs).

Symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer

Page 10: Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis

When this occurs, the new tumor will have the same kind of abnormal cells as the primary tumor that is in the pancreas.

There may be no symptoms from pancreatic cancer until it is well established which is why it is so deadly.

Symptoms do include;

• Pain in the upper abdomen (stomach) or upper back.

• Yellow skin (jaundice) and eyes, and dark urine from

• Weakness

• Loss of appetite

• Nausea and vomiting

• Unexplained weight loss.

A prognosis is a medical opinion as to the likely course and outcome of a disease.

• Early detection and correct prognosis of serious illnessis critical – and are paramount to improving patient survival rates because when treatment can begin sooner the effectiveness of that treatment is better.

Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis Using PrognostiCheck®

PrognostiCheck® is a scoring system based upon an electrical measurement of cell membranes of a patient.

Page 14: Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis

The study illustrates the cell-wall membrane of the cell by measuring its ability to act as a capacitor and the time it holds the signal.

These values are indicative of the health of the patient. Bioelectrical impedance phase angle acts as a prognostic indicator in pancreatic cancer.
