Stewardship Reflection / Reflexión Sobre Las Lecturas

1st Sunday of Lent: March 1 That we prune ourselves of earthly things and ask God how he is calling us to serve. “It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” Matthew 4:10 Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, too, must decide to turn away from worldly power and riches and put God at the center of our lives. Lent is our time to prune ourselves of earthly things. Ask God how he is calling you to serve. _________________________ 1er domingo de Cuaresma: 1 de marzo Para que podamos liberar-

nos de las cosas terrenales y preguntarle a Dios cómo nos está

llamando a servir. "Está escrito: Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y

solo a Él servirás." Mateo 4:10 Tentado entre las riquezas y el

poder de este mundo y el servicio a Dios, Jesús eligió el servicio

a su Padre. Si deseamos seguir verdaderamente a Jesús, nosotros

también debemos decidir apartarnos del poder y las riquezas del

mundo y poner a Dios en el centro de nuestras vidas. Cuaresma

es nuestro tiempo para liberarnos de las cosas terrenales.

Pregúntale a Dios cómo te está llamando a servir.

DSF Summary Report– 2020 Coming Soon! St. Matthew the Evangelist - Houston– DSF20

Prayer Before an Election Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citi-zens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, de-ceit and poverty. We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned, Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, reli-gion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.

We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Voting will be Tuesday, March 3rd from 7am-7pm in the St. Matthew’s auditorium
