Greetings TMBA Members, I am happy to announce that the Texas mortgage industry appears to be thawing out and production around the state is definitely on the upswing−so we all have cause to celebrate the apparent end of the first real winter many have experienced in years. To date we have all survived the operational gymnastics necessary to implement QM, Non-QM, ATR, and new appraisal requirements. The feedback on the streets is that there may be a few adjustments left, but most have adjusted and are working diligently to train staff and comply. As an industry there continues to be many items of interest−most notably at this time is the discus- sion happening in Washington around GSE reform. For those of you that have not tuned in to this very important topic it may be worth your time to engage in a little research while the debate rages on in the House and Senate about the need to reform or not to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In San Antonio we are already beginning to see signs of some beautiful spring weather and you still have time to register for what promises to be one of the best TMBA Southern Secondary Conferences our organization has presented. Truly this year’s committee has outdone them- selves and the line-up of speakers is impressive. To name just a few of our guests we have David Lowman, Executive Vice President for Single Family Business Freddie Mac, Andrew Bon Salle, Executive Vice President and Head of Single Family Underwriting and Capital Markets for FNMA, Michael Drayne Senior Vice President, Office of Insurer & Portfolio Management for GNMA, Brian Webster, Originations Program Manager with the CFPB, Mike Fratantoni, Chief Economist & Senior Vice President of Research and Industry Technology for the Mortgage Bankers Association, and Harry Dent best- selling author and founder of Dent Research. The list continues with representatives from HUD, FHFA, and numerous securitization specialist and industry pundits. The number of registrants has already exceeded last years at more than 350 pre-registered. The event will be held in San Antonio at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort on February 25 & 26. The quality of the programming is directly related to the excellent committee members and their tireless efforts to host a program worthy of national participation so please join us. I am very proud to announce the recipients of the 2014 Future Leaders Scholarship: Rachel West with Southwest Bank, Jon Hodge with Nationstar Mortgage, Michael Lee with Starkey Mortgage, and Chad Gomoll with Genworth Mortgage Insurance. I know that this group will represent Texas well on the national front and we are very proud that our association is able to continue to support this excellent program provided by the MBa. Following the Southern Secondary is our convention this year held at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort beginning May 4. Additionally, this year’s meeting will be preceded by a special offering from the Lincoln Leadership Institute of Gettysburg at The Alamo. This is an incredible opportu- nity to build your team and sharpen your leadership skills. If you are interested you must register by April 1. Last and never least, we need to work on our PAC. Greetings TMBA Members,

I am happy to announce that the Texas mortgage industry appears to be thawing out and production around the state is definitely on the upswing−so we all have cause to celebrate the apparent end of the first real winter many have experienced in years.

To date we have all survived the operational gymnastics necessary to implement QM, Non-QM, ATR, and new appraisal requirements. The feedback on the streets is that there may be a few adjustments left, but most have adjusted and are working diligently to train staff and comply. As an industry there continues to be many items of interest−most notably at this time is the discus-sion happening in Washington around GSE reform.

Truly this year’s committee has outdone them-selves and the line-up of speakers is impressive.

This is an incredible opportu-nity to build your team and sharpen your leadership skills. If you are interested you must register by April 1.

Last and never least, we need to work on our PAC. Frankly we trail so far behind our industry peers it is becoming embarrassing, so please consider supporting your industry and give to the TMBPAC.

Hope to see you all next week in sunny San Antonio!

Sincerely,

As a member of TMBA, you have an opportunity to actively participate by serving on a committee or recommending committee members from your company for the 2014-2015 leadership year.

COMMITTEE PARTICIPATION

Serving on a TMBA Committee is a way the mortgage professional can participate in a leadership role in the real estate finance industry as a whole. Such leadership provides an opportunity to target trends and issues relevant to the mortgage industry with other committee members. It also provides an opportunity for creative problem solving, as well as professional enrichment. Committees represent, involve and serve members. They provide a training ground for future leaders through group problem solving and as a forum through which to discuss/debate association interests. A committee is most effective when its mission is clearly defined; it has appropriate strong leadership and competent staffing. Committee members are asked to demonstrate support of the programs and services of TMBA, to take an advocacy position in promoting membership and by participating in Association programs/meetings, as well as government relations initiatives.

Each committee of the TMBA shall include members whose term of appointment will be for one year, beginning June 1, 2014, and may be re-appointed for a maximum of three consecutive years. Committee members are selected through recommendation by TMBA general membership and final appointments are made by the President with input from the respective committee chairperson. Efforts are made to provide a balance representative of the membership diversity.

HOW TO RESPOND

Review the Committee Guidelines posted on www.texasmba.org which contains committee participation and responsibility information, a description of each committee purpose and the Committee Appointments 2014-2015 form. Complete the form and return it to the TMBA office no later than April 2.

Texas Mortgage Bankers Association

TMBPAC | MISSION AND GOALThe Texas real estate economy, and as a result, the state’s lending environment, have not only survived the industry tribulations of the past several years, but have continued to thrive in spite of the grim commentary on market conditions reported throughout the remainder of the country. Bolstered by “lending-friendly” legislation, Texas continues to be a place where companies and individuals actively seek out economic opportunity.

TMBPAC’s mission is to provide funds and direction for action to be taken on legislative initiatives. Our goal is to provide funds necessary to promote candidates who support a vibrant mortgage market, while encouraging total member involvement, through contribution from each mortgage banker in the State of Texas. TMBPAC is focused on promoting all efforts aimed at creating a favorable lending environment and protecting the future of the industry in the state.

Everyone has heard reference made to “the power of a collective voice”, an expression that rings particularly true in the political arena. With every individual show of support from one of our members, our voice becomes stronger and louder and more likely to be heard. Navigating the spectrum of political candidates and sorting through the continuous onslaught of new legislation that will directly impact the way that we, as an industry do business, can be overwhelming. The TMBPAC provides a way for association members to get involved in the political process in support of issues important to his/her own livelihood.

That being said we would like to thank all our TMBPAC contributors that have giving their support in previous years and in the current year. In addition, we would like to announce this year’s TMBPAC Race Winner:
