Greetings TMBA Members, The holiday season is well under way, and I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying a happy season in spite of looming industry changes in the New Year. I have heard from many of our members about the struggle to complete the employee training, system programming, and vendor product integration necessary to adopt the next round of Dodd/Frank requirements in January. Additionally, agency direct lenders are busily adjusting their internal loan manufacturing process to rise to new very exacting QC requirements. Needless to say adapting your process and practices to comply with so many changes is both difficult and distracting; however, most member companies report that they are well prepared and will be ready. If you were able to attend the TMBA seminar in November you had the opportunity to hear directly from FNMA representatives and industry experts about the measures your company needs to take to successfully sell loans and keep them sold in future years. A step-by-step detailed outline of the requirements was provided and discussed. Frankly, this session alone generated quite a bit of buzz, and I know that the information has already proved to be very useful to many members in attendance. Additionally, the TMBA has partnered with the national MBA to offer a series of guides and webinars titled the MBA Compliance Essentials. This product is an extremely valuable tool and includes content created by industry experts and peers designed to help navigate through today’s complex compliance challenges. The TMBA is able to offer the product to TMBA members at a discounted price so please contact Lisa Vercher at the TMBA office if you would like more information on the MBA Compliance Essentials. I am happy to report that this year’s first SML Mortgage Industry Day was a great success well attended and full of useful content. Commissioner Foster and his staff provided excellent content and freely interacted with attendees providing great advice and direction. Following the SML Mortgage Industry the Day the 2013 TMBA Education Seminar, chaired by Rhiannon Bolen, got underway with a very well attended reception with exhibitors. The seminar was attended by 307 people with sponsorship levels the highest collected in seven years. Additionally the back-to-back programming of the seminar and the Servicing Forum proved to be an excellent decision with 233 people attending the Servicing event chaired by Scott Gillen. As promised the TMBA will remain committed to providing useful educational content and programming in order to give our members access to industry insight from respected peers and business leaders. Please make plans now to attend the TMBA Secondary Conference on February 25 & 26 – it promises to be yet another quality program full of useful information and great networking opportunities. Greetings TMBA Members,

The holiday season is well under way, and I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying a happy season in spite of looming industry changes in the New Year.

Happy Holidays to all of you, be safe and enjoy.

Sincerely,

Texas Mortgage Bankers Association

TMBPAC | MISSION AND GOALThe Texas real estate economy, and as a result, the state’s lending environment, have not only survived the industry tribulations of the past several years, but have continued to thrive in spite of the grim commentary on market conditions reported throughout the remainder of the country. Bolstered by “lending-friendly” legislation, Texas continues to be a place where companies and individuals actively seek out economic opportunity.

TMBPAC’s mission is to provide funds and direction for action to be taken on legislative initiatives. Our goal is to provide funds necessary to promote candidates who support a vibrant mortgage market, while encouraging total member involvement, through contribution from each mortgage banker in the State of Texas. TMBPAC is focused on promoting all efforts aimed at creating a favorable lending environment and protecting the future of the industry in the state.

Everyone has heard reference made to “the power of a collective voice”, an expression that rings particularly true in the political arena. With every individual show of support from one of our members, our voice becomes stronger and louder and more likely to be heard. Navigating the spectrum of political candidates and sorting through the continuous onslaught of new legislation that will directly impact the way that we, as an industry do business, can be overwhelming. The TMBPAC provides a way for association members to get involved in the political process in support of issues important to his/her own livelihood.

That being said we would like to thank all our TMBPAC contributors that have giving their support in previous years and in the current legislative year. Also, TMBPAC has restructured its previous contribution level recognition which includes the Mortgage Roundup TMBPAC listing; annual membership directory; and TMBA’s meetings and conference for 2013. Below is the updated contribution recognition levels and what you will receive (levels are based on total annual contributions):

• Name listed in TMBA’s bi-monthly newsletter, Mortgage Roundup and annual Membership Directory by level.

• Green “TMBPAC” supporter badge at each TMBA event.POWER SUPPORTER, $500 or more

TMBA{ Responding to the market environment, most state and the federal legislatures are reacting with legislation that will significantly effect how we do business. As always TMBA is working to protect your interests, but we need your help. A strong TMBPAC raises our profile at the Capitol and is vital to meeting these upcoming challenges once the Texas Legislature reconvenes. This is a fight we can’t afford to lose. We must be able to stop or alter legislation and our PAC allows us to do that. We need to seriously strengthen our PAC, so please take a moment to make your personal contribution to the TMBPAC and encourage your peers, employees, company PACs and industry partners to do so as well.

Announcing A Transformational Journey from the AlamoFor those looking for the same emotionally and intellectually powerful leadership development as our Gettysburg programs, but in a new location and with new stunning and thought-provoking leadership metaphors, we offer A Transformational Journey from the Alamo!

The siege of the Alamo is one of the few historical incidents as gripping as the Battle of Gettysburg. For 13 days in early 1836, 200 Texans taking refuge in an old mission known as the Alamo faced off against 5,000 Mexican soldiers seeking to crush the defenders, and with them, the Texas Independence Movement. On March 6, 1836, General Santa Anna’s Mexican army stormed the Alamo, overwhelmed the defenders, and wiped out the garrison. But the story did not end there. Barely a month later, the Texans’ comrades defeated Santa Anna’s army and secured independence for the Lone Star Republic. Today, 175 years later, we still “Remember the Alamo!”

This year's Annual Convention will be like no other in previous years.
