FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

Hi Everyone.

Hope you all have had a great start to 2016!!!!

We are all looking forward to an action packed year with many great events planned or in the planning for 2016. We started with the Unofficial Cruise on Sunday 10th January with 36 cars and 78 members and family joining in on a cruise north with the first pit stop being at the Glass House Township Information Centre car park gathering everybody together for the next leg, to the Kenilworth Township and Hotel for Lunch. Cruising in convoy along the Bruce Highway in those shiny, stunning HDTs & HSVs always attract a lot of public attention where ever we go and this cruise was no exception. The Kenilworth Hotel certainly are renowned for their great food, and as was said by many that attended, best hotel food we have had to date. A huge thank you to the members and their families that supported this event, hope you all had a great time. This is always a great time to catch up after Christmas and New Year celebrations as well as stretch the legs of the cars for the beginning of the New Year. Friday 29th January 2016 - General Meeting held at Motorama Holden and HSV Moorooka. First meeting for 2016 and again the Team at Motorama Moorooka headed by Simon Guthrie DP and Allan Carter Sales Manager were fantastic hosts, providing pizzas and drinks to start the night off and a great venue for the meeting. A Big Thank You to Simon, Allan, Jason and Michael for hosting the night. What a great way to start the year for the Club. We had some great quest speakers starting with Mark Beresford giving some great background into the beginnings of the fuel injected Holden V8 motor and what model Holden it was fitted into for the initial testing, then being released in the VL GPA Walkinshaw some time later. Thank you Mark for this great information, as a number of us did not know how it all began, however we have enjoyed owning and driving these cars over the years and many still do.

Adam Shaw from Ctrack spoke about their car tracking devices and the cost of running after installed, however with the car theft again on the rise, nothing is too expensive that can protect us from having those Classics and Current HSVs & HDTs from

being stolen or at least being recovered should the most soul destroying misfortune happen to you, perpetrated by some low life individual. I like the way the wild west handled the stealing of their most prized possession – their horse. If and when they were caught a public hanging was immediately instigated. I guess that got the message across to thieves and would be thieves, the consequences were not good. Something needs to be put in place that has huge consequences for car thieves, it would stop almost overnight. Extreme - yes!!! Until you have had your pride and joy stolen, then nothing is too much for these fellows.

Note: Don’t leave your car keys sitting on a bench or cupboard in the house.Take your car keys with you when you leave the house, especially if the car is not an every day drive and sits at home when you’re not. Alarm the garage as well as the home. Have bollards fitted in front of garage doors so when they break in they still cant get the car out. The only way a modern car can be started is with the keys. DON’T leave the keys where the thieves can break into your home, grab the keys and take off in YOUR car. They will break into your home while you are sleeping, they don’t care if you wake up and catch them, more likely than not they are desperate drug affected individuals that will think nothing of doing you serious harm should you catch them. Protect yourself and your pride and joy. Mathew from Auto One Browns Plains was kind enough to bring along Mark Hardyman whose family founded the company called Redline Car Care products - the importers of Meguiars and now for some time the importers of the Surf City Car Care Range as well. In America the Surf City Car Care Range is known as the fastest growing and one of the biggest sellers of car care products as well as being distributed now throughout the world, well certainly to countries that have people that care about their cars and collect classics. I am sure if you haven’t used Surf City products before, when you do for the first time, you will be impressed with their ease of use.

Book early with Peter Woods. This is a great way to stretch the legs of your HSV. You can run at your own pace and have a great time getting used to your car and what it and you can do without fear of a speeding ticket. Sunday 17th April 2016 - Queensland Auto Spectacular Willowbank Raceway. Our cars will be on display, if you wish to have them judged they have to be moved individually to another area. Come and have a great day looking at heaps and heaps of cars. Bring your car to help us win Club Display of the Show. Just give it a wash, blacken the tires, vacuum the inside and place it in the club display. We need heaps of Club Cars!!!! Please help us out. Nothing yet as the 2016 season hasn’t started. However I have been watching the results for the Bathurst 12 hour while putting together this report and What a Result for Tekno. On Saturday Shane Van Gisbergen qualified the Tekno McLaren 1st on the grid with a shattering lap time that will take a long time to beat – the quickest lap time at this event ever. Congratulations Shane. The car was driven by Jonathon Webb, Alvaro Perente and Shane Van Gisbergen for the 12 hour race. On Sunday Shane had the car in first spot for the first 3 hour stint, changed drivers to Perente who put it back to 2nd spot and now it is being driven by Johathon. With 2 hours & 28 minutes to go the McLaren is sitting in third sport after a driver, fuel and tyre change great result. There is more for Tekno with the running of a 2nd McLaren driven by Bell, Watson & Davison and it is sitting 7th. They have 2 cars in the Top Ten in one of Australia’s Premier Races. Well done to the Tekno Team. After this Betty will be coming to get some pointers on how Tekno does it.

Note: Tekno with Shane, Alvaro & Jonathon bought the McLaren Home in 1st Place!!!!! Thank you all for your Fantastic Support and look forward to catching up with you all soon.

FIRST OFFICIAL CRUISE FOR 2016Sunday 28th February 2016

I have organised a lunch at the Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm for Sunday 28th February 2016.

We will be meeting at the Calamvale Hotel at 8:30am for a 9:00am departure.

From there we will head to Beaudesert where we will stop off at Karma Korner Cafe at the Woolworths Shopping Centre, they will have coffee and

cakes available there also are toilets available. We will stop here for an hour and then head off to our lunch venue via Boonah. We intend to arrive there around 12pm – 12:30pm where we will sit down for a 2 course lunch,

main and desert which will be an alternate drop.

Prices are $45 per head which also includes some wine tasting.

2016 Kart ChampionshipSunday 13th March 2016For those of you who have petrol running through their veins, but don’t want to risk their pride and joy attending motorsport days, yet still want the exhilaration of speed, here is your solution!

Xtreme Karting is hosting the Club’s Kart evening to be held on Sunday 13th March 2016.

We are booked in to go on track at 11am so drivers will need to arrive at 10am to fill out licence forms.

We are doing the Dick Johnson package which includes:-

2 X Practice sessions (10 mins)1 X qualifying session (10 mins)5 lap final – Grid Start

Price will be $120 per person which includes licence. We need a mini-mum of 16 people and can have as many as we like.

Confirmation of drivers attending is required no later than 3rd March 2016.

The club will attend the “Car Club Display” area with a maximum of 40 cars.

There is also judging on the day, amongst all car makes and models, broken up into year of manufacture categories. If you wish to have your car judged, you will need to complete a separate judging form, which can be downloaded from the event’s website, and on the day you will need to park in a separate area to our club display.

There is numerous events on during the day including test n tune, trade ar-eas, helicopter joy flights, judged cars and bikes, display cars and bikes, dyno power testing, wheel changing competition, Sound Off Bass Battle, historic car display and the Australian Rocker Cover Racer Championship. Tons of different activities throughout the day for every taste. Some of these events, like judging, require individual registration, which can be done via their website www.queenslandautospectacular.com.au

We have a reserved space for 40 cars from the club arranged. The event organisers have requested that vehicles in any club displays arrive together so there will be a convoy cruise to the event, meeting at KFC Redbank at 5:30am for a 5:45am departure. The gates for entrants open at 6am and the public at 7am.

Cost is $10 per vehicle and $10 each for driver and each passenger, payable on the day at the gate upon entry.

Proceeds on the day go to various charitable organisations.

Cost is $80.00 per entrant which includes 1 other spectator in that car. This is payable by cash/cheque/Credit card to the club on the day. Special pricing is available for same car significant other grudge matches. Please ask.

We will meet you at the front gate and issue you with your entry form and two entry tickets per car upon receipt of payment.Additional spectator cost is $20 per Adult, $18.00 per student with ID and kids 13 and under are free. This is payable on entry at the gate on the day. Spectators can park inside as there is always plenty of room at the back of the tower on test and tune days.

Willowbank Raceway trackside café will be open.

Your car does not need to be registered nor does it need to be a HSV or HDT. We have no maximum competitor numbers and we have had up to 35 in the past with every

one getting more than enough track time. We could easily cater for up to 50 so invite your friends along to compete and settle those long standing arguments once and for all. We don’t mind a bit of any Brand verse HSV/HDT action. If your car runs faster than 10.99 seconds please see Willowbank raceway website for special additional requirements.

Clothing requirements - Minimum Long sleeve shirt, full length pants and closed footwear. Australian Standard Helmet required

If you are competing you will be issued with 2 entry forms at the gate. You will then make your way to the staging lanes where you will complete the Willowbank Raceway form and hand to scrutineer. The second club form will be handed in when you are ready to nominate your target time up to a maximum of 3 test passes. They will check your helmet and issue you with a number and the number will be written on your windows with white boot polish. This washes off afterwards with no damage. At nominated times above the lanes will be open and you will be free to run for 1.5 hours. Time slips are printed for each run and are available at the base of the tower for pick up. The club is supplied all timing information the following week to allow calculation of fastest time. Your entry covers you to stay on and run after 4.00pm in the main test and tune event.

For 2016 we are going to run the dial your own time format for scoring. After a maximum of 3 test passes you will hand in your information sheet which will identify you and your race number and you will nominate your time. Points will be allocated for the closest 2 passes for the remainder of the meet to the nominated time and you will need to compete in both events to qualify for the end of year trophy. The trophies on offer will be First to Third Male and First to Third Female.

If you want to be in the point score you will need to make sure you hand a nominated time form in on the day.

For 2016 I intend to post scores up after each event so everyone knows how they are going and to attract a little more interest.

It is always a low stress great fun event. So please come out and have some fun and bring your mates with you. No need to advise your attendance in advance. Just make sure you are at the main gate by the nominated time on the day.

*Queensland Raceway have given us special entry for a sprint group on the Sunday of their Two Days of Thunder event Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th June 2016. Note this is an all day sprint event. It is a chance for our sprinters to run in front of a decent crowd and we will be supporting the Sunday Show and Shine as well. We need our sprinters and our members to get behind this event to repay the privilege afforded to us this year. A field of 15 sprinters and good numbers for the show and shine from non-sprinting members would be excellent to see. There is plenty to see at this event with many other categories including some keenly fought racing categories. It is also customary for lunchtime laps of the track for show and shine participants.

For QR scoring please check their website. The major club trophy will be done using the regularity format again with trophies at the end of the year for first to third. We will also be issuing a trophy for fastest over the 4 events as well (scoring will be done on 3 out of 4).

There will be at least 3*4 lap sessions plus passenger ride session at discretion of track management - time permitting.

The cost is $150 per car payable to the club by cash or cheque on the day. Other costs apart from running costs are QR AASA track licence of $55 per year or $20 per day. A timing device can be bought for $80.00 which will last for approx 7 years or can be hired for $20 a day with an $80 deposit required with $60 refund upon return. Helmet hire is available for $5.00 a day. QR operates EFTPOS facilities at both tracks for Licence, Transmitter, and helmet hire.

Participants should make themselves aware of safety equipment requirements by visiting QR website but in short it is helmet, long sleeve shirt, long pants and

shoes. If running a full competition harness the club strongly recommends the use of a Hans type neck restraint.

Entries will need to be done via QR Website and you need to first register as a user then go to event date and click on HSV group to complete your entry for each session. Please email me when you have done this so I know who is coming. Entries will be on a first in first served basis and should be done a week in advance wherever possible. If you want late entry please phone Peter Woods on 0428723612 to check availability. Note Do not complete your credit card details on line with QR (except for Licence). When asked for Credit Card details for the event use HSV Owners Card number 9999 9999 9999 9999 and expiry 09/19. Payment is made on the day to club via cash/chq or Credit card.

Entrants should arrive at track at approx 11.45 for sign in with the drivers briefing normally taking place approximately 12.15pm with first groups on track around 1.00pm.

Expected finish time is 4.00pm. Prospective entrants should check the motorsport tab on our website to view handy tips for vehicle preparation for the sprints.

If you want to race this is not the event for you. If you want to stretch your cars legs and improve your driving skills we would love to have you along. You should also be aware that your car is unlikely to be covered by comprehensive insurance for any damage whilst on track.

Location – Function Room (Big yellow Building on the hill) Lakeside Raceway, Lakeside Road Kurwongbah (for your GPS). For those without Lakeside road is located just off Narangbah Road near the Dakibin Railway Station and the Gold club is on the corner.

Arrival time: 7.00am to 7.15amParking: Park below the function room between it and the track. There is bitumen drive with parking on grass area.Breakfast time: 7.30am to 8.15ishBreakfast menu: Bacon, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, chipolata sausages, eggs and toast. Tea and coffee is also available.

Cost: $30 Single, $55 Couple, $70 Families with Children to age 12. Payable on the day to the club by cash, cheque or credit card.

Happy Laps: Commence 8.15ish and will last around 20 minutes or a little longer depending on behavior on track. Please note all passengers intending to ride in car must have arm bands and to get an arm band you need to pay as above. This event is run cost neutral and we do not make a profit from it.Event Finish: approx. 9.00am.

Please note – Unfortunately Lakeside raceway has many sensitive neighbors so to help Queensland Raceways reputation and our own could you please ensure that we arrive and exit the venue and surrounds in a manner not designed to attract attention. We want the venue to keep its community licence to operate well into the future.

Rules for Happy Laps – (They may seem onerous but the vast majority attending will have participated before and have always left smiling and asking to do it again – So here’s your chance)

HAPPY LAPS ARE NOT HOT LAPS or TEST LAPS. Happy Laps are for family cruising NOT performance driving. So, Any car-to-car contact is an instant stop for the session, Any car going off the track is an instant stop for the session, >1 sec of tyre smoke is an instant stop for the session, Speed obviously in excess of 120kph is an instant stop for the session; this is more than fair as there are sprints and drag events that hot drivers can participate in if they want to go fast.

In addition, during Happy Laps;No helmets are to be worn by anybodyNo unregistered or trailered cars are permitted on the trackNo cars fitted with aftermarket roll cagesAll cars must have current registration and plates must not be obscuredDrivers may be breath tested including by the Police - anyone reading more than 0.00 will be banned from the trackQR will name and shame drivers who push the limits and cause a session to be cancelled

RSVP – Final numbers are needed by Tuesday prior to event so see dates above and via email [email protected]. Please indicate your name and number attending. If you want to pay by Credit Card in advance we need your, number, expiry and ccv and I will process Friday before the event. The club has to advise and pay in advance so if you advise your attendance we need your payment. The event is being run at no profit to keep prices reasonable so what we charge is what we have to pay QR.
