Is your prescription cost TOO HIGH?
81 Miller Road, Suite 800 Castleton, NY 12033 477-2167
One of the best ways to get less expensive and equally effective prescription drugs is to switch from a brand name to a generic. Brand name drugs can cost up to 3 times more that generics. Depending on how often you need the medications, you could save hundreds throughout the year with generics.
Schedule an appointment at our offi ce and fi nd out if your prescription has a generic equivalent. You could be saving a lot of money.

WORDS TO THE WISE for MayBy Shanon of Seraphims Keep
For the most part we are programmed to believe that our family and close friends are who ultimately want what is good for us. When you need advice, ask your parents, your sibling, that favorite uncle or aunt, and in many cases, that is most certainly true. But interesting enough, the very attraction of turning to those who know us best for help is because they know and understand you and want what is good for you, based on, who they know you to be. But what if the you that they know, isnt working for you now? Those closest to us, and I think this in on unconscious level for the most part, want us to stay the person they know as a way to keep us safe. I dont know how many times, even now, family will say to me, oh you are getting so thin! I know I need to lose another 20 lbs, but those comments affect me and at some level I stop doing what I know I need to do, to calm them.
Its lonely taking things on by yourself, and family and old
friends are an easy support system but sometimes tuning to others who dont know you, for guidance, is a much better solution if you are trying to change. They will see you as a clean slate not their daughter/friend who has had such a tough life and is doing so well, considering.
This May, reach out to the support system you have within the structure of your community for input and help. Reach out to those who are not emotionally invested in your staying the same, but more in you being the best you can be, for yourself.
You will always be you, at your core. Change doesnt change you it only creates opportunity for you to fi nd new ways of living your life and leading the way for those you love, to do the same. HAVE A HAPPY MAY!!

A message from OUR TOWNEDear Readers - May brings us so many things - great weather, outside fun, gardening, plans for the summer and for Our Towne a new look! We have updated our look with not only a new logo and super graphics, but also more community information than ever! Rensselaer County has so much to offer that every month we are growing with information, readers and advertisers! We will keep bringing our readers good news and our advertisers great prices and results! We are dedicated to help our locally owned businesses to keep going in this tough economy and afford to advertise! We are also determined to bring our readers the best information about the local community - things to do... where to shop...interesting articles - all from local people. Our Towne has added a Woman Owned Business page this month that features a short article from
businesses that are locally owned. As Our Towne is also a locally owned business, we too feel the effects of the economy and know the struggles small businesses are going through...thats why we are here for you! Have a Happy Month of May and we will be back in your homes and businesses next month. See you in June!

At the 2010 Rensselaer County Outstanding Student & Educators Awards Ceremony, Rensselaer High School nominees: Ma Nada Khaing, Ms. Jennifer Drautz, and Kathleen Kopaskie were honored for their contributions to their school and their community. Each year, the Greenbush Area and Troy Family YMCAs sponsor an annual ceremony where each high school in the area can highlight the accomplishments of their students and educators. Ma Nada Khaing (nominated by Mrs. Tricia Steck), was honored for her many volunteer accomplishments including her work within the Burmese community teaching English to children and adults. Ma Nada is a member of the National Honor Society and consistently carries an academic average in the high 90s. Ms. Drautz (nominated by Mr. Stephen Rees) was honored for her many contributions to Rensselaer Middle and High Schools. Most notably, Ms. Drautz was recognized for starting the tradition of ninth grade students attending the
Presidential Inauguration. Kathleen Kopaskie (nominated by Mrs. Denise Wright) was recognized for her leadership skills and her involvement in many volunteer opportunities both at school and in the community including: the Albany City Rescue Mission and the Rensselaers First Presbyterian Church. Kathleen is the President of Key Club and a member of the National Honor Society. _____________________________________________
CASDAs Scholars Recognition ProgramThis Business Education Partnership recognizes outstanding graduating seniors from Capital Region and are invited on the basis of scholarship and service to attend the annual Scholars Recognition Dinner. Each student chooses as a guest the one elementary or secondary school teacher who has had the greatest infl uence on that student. Tiffany has been accepted to The College of St. Rose in the fall. Tiffany chose as her guest Ms. Linda Kennedy, a high school mathematics teacher and high school team leader. Tiffany, wrote a short statement , Ms. Kennedy is the type of teacher who not only challenges her students mathematically, but also encourages them to strive for academic excellence. It's easy to blame lawyers for the glut of frivolous lawsuits that clog the calendars and dockets of judges in courtrooms across the nation. That blame, however, would be misplaced. My practice experience has taught me that the public is far more responsible for this crisis than the legal profession ever could be. Think about it - lawyers act on what they are told by their clients. And let's not imagine that clients don't lie to their lawyers because they do. All the time. If you want to fault lawyers (and I know you do) you can criticize them for not removing the cases from the Courts quickly after they fi nd out that their lawsuit has no merits. And, honestly, that's not entirely their fault either. Once we attorneys take on a client's representation and fi le a complaint on their behalf, removing yourself from the case can only be done with the Court's permission. That means that a petition has to be drafted and fi led with the Court and a hearing must be called so the Judge can hear evidence before granting the lawyer's request to withdraw from the action. And, of course, the lawyer is bound by attorney-client privilege or confi dentiality which prevents the lawyer from disclosing anything that he or she learned during the course of the representation he or she is looking to get out of. The process can be a slow and tricky one to say the least.
All lawyers have been duped at one time or another, by a client who was particularly good at misrepresenting the truth. I had a client a few years back who was involved in a car accident while travelling between two of her employers work locations. The client, who was driving a co-worker from one place to the other, claimed that she was hit in the rear while waiting for a light to change. She claimed that immediately after the accident took place the car that hit her fl ed the scene. She also claimed she was pushed into the car in front of her by the rear-end impact but the person in the car she hit advised that they had no auto
insurance and they left the scene before the police could arrive to write up a report.
None of this is unusual, particularly for an inner-city auto accident. But what was unusual is that my clients passenger wasn't corroborating her story. She described everything in the same way except that she described my client as responsible for the entire collision. According to her passenger, my client was on her cell phone with an appointment calendar opened in front of her while she was driving at the time that she hit the rear of the vehicle in front of her. The passenger did confi rm that they were hit in the rear by a vehicle that later fl ed the scene.
So why did I take the case? I had represented the client before so she got points from me as far as credibility was concerned. And she told a very convincing story as to why the passenger was making her side of things up citing a long rivalry at work with the passenger looking to get her hands on my clients higher paying job. It's true, things were starting to smell a bit funny, but there wasn't enough to fl at out call my client a liar just yet so we proceeded with the case. Which all seemed to be going well. Depositions were taken, statements were given, papers had been fi led and we got to the point where settlement should be discussed.
And it wasn't. The Defense Attorney just kept avoiding the issue. So I got impatient after months of delay and I pushed him on the issue. That's when he disclosed to me that he had concerns about my clients educational background. This was old news to me - the issue came up early on in the case and I had my client get a letter from the Dean of the school at the university she attended who verifi ed that my client had graduated and earned a Masters Degree. Now I was hearing that the Defense Attorney was not satisfi ed with the written proof I had supplied. We
exchanged words, I got off the phone and immediately pulled the Dean's letter from my fi le. And then I called the Dean. The Dean was familiar with my client but not because she had graduated with a Masters Degree, but, rather, because she had worked in her offi ce as an administrative assistant some years ago. After checking my client's academic record, I was advised by the Dean that she had never graduated from that university with any kind of a degree let alone a Masters Degree. Her only academic involvement with the university was through one solitary class she had taken and dropped out of mid-semester. Clearly, as an admin, she had access to the dean's stationery which she had stolen and had been using to fabricate an educational background she simply never had.
Needless to say, that case was settled for a nominal fee (nuisance value as they refer to it in insurance circles) and I parted ways with that client for good. Why did anyone pay out anything on this claim? That's easy - even liars are injured in car accidents. The client's problems with truthfulness didn't change that there was an auto accident. What it did do was make it hard to believe that a Judge or a Jury would ever believe her, making her chances of getting a suitable recovery for her damages virtually impossible. And that is how it should be.
So remember - it's not a good thing to lie to your lawyer. And if you are and you haven't been discovered yet, rest assured, you will be. My experiences have proven that to be the case every time. Next month, more interesting tales about the practice of law.

Bocker the LabradoodleWith the preview of Summer, mom broke out my backyard wading pool and did I have fun! Great way to cool off. Swimming in the lake can't be far behind.
Thanks to my friends at the Boys and Girls Club for inviting me back to visit during their after school program. I even came face to face with their pet chinchillas, who weren't too sure about my big face staring into their cage. Paws for a Cause at the Empire State Plaza was another fun event. Glad I could help out my friends at the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society by signing some pawtographs and raffl ing off a Bocker plus puppy for donations. Gave a lot of kisses too and got to visit all the great exhibitors there. Our friend Bill Berloni was there and put on an exhibition of how he trains dogs to be in Broadway Shows. All his dogs are rescues and they have appeared in such plays as Annie and Legally Blond and Wizard of Oz. What fun!
What a great book party for our friend, Sheryl Matthys' new release "Leashes and Lovers, What Your Dog Can Teach You About Love, Life and Happiness. I'm included in the book as well as a photo of me and one of my Tail Wagging Tutor students! Of course, I pawtographed a copy and sent it to her as a surprise.
This is the time of the year for lots of Walks for causes support..am glad to be supporting The Autism Connection, Bark for Life (American Cancer Society), the Humane Society and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. I know I'll be making lots of new friends along the way!
OK..so it's time for all my pals to get their humans to enter them in a really cool contest. As you know, I am SpokesDog for Dogs In Party Hats. My gelato (ice cream) fl avor, Bocker's Labradoodlicious Swirl, has been the biggest seller so far this year and it is YUMMY! It's now time for dog owners across the country to unleash their imaginations in a whimsical contest called Dogs in Party Hats that doubles as a fundraiser for the internationally accredited nonprofi t guide dog school Guiding Eyes for the Blind. The event, now in its second year, represents a unique and innovative partnership between contest creator and sponsor Via Vanti! Restaurant & Gelateria and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. So I'm asking all my friends to have their humans take a photo of them in their "party" attire; think of an ice cream fl avor that best represents you, and upload the photo at the Dogs In Party Hats website, http://www.dogsinpartyhats.com. Contest will be open until November, and then twelve winners will be picked, one for each month of 2011 and their gelato fl avors will be created and featured at the restaurant. Their photos will also be featured on the website and on Facebook for all to admire.Visit Bockers Doodleland at http://www.bocker.tv for more information and photos on all that's going and dont forget
to check out my store! You can fi nd me on Facebook and Twitter too. If you have any questions for me or would like to contact me about booking an appearance, please e-mail me at: [email protected].

Are You Ready for a Puppy or Dog?1) Time Commitment: How much time each day do you have to devote to the animal? you willing to commit to the dog for the dog's life? Puppies require far more work than adults.2) Human Medical Issues: Are there any allergies or medical conditions in your family that could cause issues resulting in having to get rid of the dog? No breed is truly hypoallergenic3) Cost: Can you afford a dog? Getting the puppy or dog is not the big expense. It is what follows that can drain your wallet: training, supplies, food, vet bills, etc.4) Housing: Can you properly house the dog? Being chained in the back yard with a hut and water is not proper housing. If you cannot make a dog a family member, keep him safely inside when you are not home and let him have plenty of exercise in a safely fenced area, reconsider.5) Lifestyle: What is your lifestyle like? Are you an active family that spends time hiking and camping or going for long walks? Are you more sedentary? Some breeds require a lot of exercise daily both physical and mental.6) Grooming: What about grooming? All dogs need grooming even hairless breeds! Think about this before you choose your breed - long or short coats.7) Need: Why do you want a dog? Companionship, participating in sports, protection? You must research the breed or cross in regards to what you want8) Experience: Are you an experienced dog owner or is this your fi rst one? There are many breeds that are not appropriate for a novice for one reason or another. 9) Long Term: What will happen to the dog if you start a family? What if you have to move? 10) Golden Years: What when the dog ages? Are you prepared to cope with the onset of old age. A dog will spend his life trying to please an owner. The least we can do is make their Golden years truly golden. http://www.my-dog.info/getting-a-dog/ready-for-puppy.asp

Pet AdoptionHi! I`m Abby, a lovely young Shepherd mix . Even though my previous owners found me to be well-behaved and good with older children, they didn`t have enough time for me so they brought me here. The assessment team also said that I`m a
good girl, but perhaps too active for small children. Please come and visit me! I`ll sit up smartly for you and maybe you`ll take me home!
Howdy, Im big Basil and I sure am an armful. My coat is grey with pale orange, and you can call me a tortoiseshell. I have lovely pale green eyes. My former family brought me to the shelter but I have no idea why. Im a friendly puss who
enjoys company and being petted. Ill happily purr for you and rub around. Im a bit too large to enjoy being picked up, so you can just scratch my cheeks. For a gal my age of 8 I adjust to changes well, so I know we will all be happy when I go home with you!

ASHLEY is a 10 year old shepherd-husky mix. She came to Peppertree because her owner was moving and was going to bring her to a shelter where her chances of being adopted were slim. A neighbor took her in but could not keep her and she was brought to Peppertree. Ashley is a bit confused with all the changes but is very good with people and loves older kids (10+). She is a bit of a dominant/alpha-wanna-be dog, so she does not do well in a home with other dominant dogs. She would do best in a home with more docile dogs or as an only dog and should be placed without cats. Ashley is housetrained and besides being so beautiful, she is a very smart girl and responsive to training.
If you would like more information about Ashley, call Peppertree Rescue at 518-435-7425. Please visit our website at http://www.peppertree.org.
Rescue me!
I might be a tiny bit shy when I fi rst go to a new place (because I was born to a feral Mom but I learned how to like people), and I dont especially like being picked up and carried around (you humans are so TALL!!), but Im very affectionate and love to sit on your lap and get
cuddles. I like to snuggle with my foster mom on the couch or the bed, and will follow her around to keep her company. Im playful and like the other cats in my foster home, but Im also very good at relaxing and hanging out on the cat tree. I havent been around kids (or dogs!) and may be a little shy for really young children, but should be fi ne with older
kids as long as they dont chase me. I would be better in a home with a feline buddy to keep me company I get lonely by myself. If Im a little shy when I fi rst go to your house, just give me about 24 hours to adjust and feed me some treats a couple of times, and Ill soon be your new best friend! To fi nd out more about me or to arrange to meet me, please call Heather at 339-3315.

I Am Your Dog(Authors note: A friend shared this with me, and I just had to pass it on.)
I am your dog, and I have a little something Id like to whisper in your ear. I know that you humans lead busy lives. Some have to work, some have children to raise. It always seems like you are running here and there, often much too fast, often never noticing the truly grand things in life. Look down at me now, while you sit there at your computer. See the way my dark brown eyes look at yours? They are slightly cloudy now. That comes with age. The gray hairs are beginning to ring my soft muzzle. You smile at me; I see love in your eyes. What do you see in mine? Do you see a spirit? A soul inside, who loves you as no other could in the world? A spirit that would forgive all trespasses of prior wrong doing for just a simple moment of your time?
That is all I ask. To slow down, if even for a few minutes, to be with me. So many times you have been saddened by the words you read on that screen, of others of my kind, passing. Sometimes we die young and oh so quickly, sometimes so suddenly it wrenches your heart out of your throat. Sometimes, we age so slowly before your eyes that you may not even seem to know until the very end, when we look at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes. Still the love is always there, even when we must take that long sleep, to run free in a distant land. I may not be here tomor-row; I may not be here next week. Someday you will shed the water from your eyes, that humans have when deep grief fi lls their souls, and you will be angry at yourself that you did not have just one more day with me.
Because I love you so, your sorrow touches my spirit and grieves me. We have NOW, together. So come, sit down here next to me on the fl oor, and look deep into my eyes. What do you see? If you look hard and deep enough we will talk, you and I, heart to heart. Come to me not as alpha or as trainer or even Mom or Dad. Come to me as a living soul and stroke my fur and let us look deep into one anothers eyes and talk. I may tell you something about the fun of chasing a tennis ball, or I may tell you something profound about myself, or even life in general. You decided to have me in your life because you wanted a soul to share such things with. Someone very different from you, and here I am.
I am a dog, but I am alive. I feel emotion, I feel physical senses, and I can revel in the differences of our spirits and souls. I do not think of you as a dog on two feet? I know what you are and who you are. You are human, in all your quirkiness, and I love you still.
Now, come sit with me, on the fl oor. Enter my world, and let time slow down if only for 15 minutes. Look deep into my eyes, and whisper into my ears. Speak with your heart, with your joy, and I will know your true self. We may not have tomorrow, but we do have today, and life is oh so very short. So please . . . come sit with me now and let us share these precious moments we have together.Love, on behalf of canines everywhere,
Your Dog(Author Unknown)

Chamber Launches Executive Dialogue
The Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to present Executive Dialogue, a new forum for business owners, CEOs, and mid to senior-level executives to meet, support, and consult with one another in a frank and confi dential environment. In this peer-to-peer program, groups of non-competing professionals will meet regularly for candid discussions, assistance, and mentoring. Each group has the capability of acting as a board and consultants for its members on a wide variety of real-life business topics. By posing questions, sharing practices, and exploring concepts, participants work together to fi nd solutions to problems and strategically tackle common and uncommon challenges, leading to their growth & success.
Initiated by the Chamber Board of Directors Education Committee, Executive Dialogue responds to the needs and requests of our membership, particularly requests made during various Focus Groups hosted in 2009. The new forum also fulfi lls our Strategic Plan which calls for enhanced, cost-effective opportunities for the professional education and personal development of members.
Make no mistake, this is not a networking group, and participants do not spend their time selling to one another, said Chamber President Linda Hillman. This is a professional support network for experienced professionals to set aside valuable time, share their experiences, gain valuable insight, and propel themselves towards their business goals.
The mission of Executive Dialogue is to foster open and confi dential communication among small groups of business owners, mid-management and senior level executives. Each group provides its participants with support and consultation on business issues such as increasing profi tability, recruiting and retaining quality employees, human resources, marketing plans, and more. The group may function as an unpaid board of directors for your business, providing you with a place to build trusted relationships.
Additionally, the groups will have access to MBA students at The Lally School of Management & Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The pooled experience, expertise and talents of the group can often point to solutions for everyday problems, as well as long-range challenges. The Chamber is seeking professionals to take part in Executive Dialogue as group participants, mentors, and advisors. If you would like to join other professionals in a collaborative and inspiring environment, contact Ryan Silva, Director of Business Development, at 518.274.7020, ext. 14, or by email [email protected].

Miss Sigmund Speaks About Divorce
Dear Miss Siggy,
My parents are divorcing. I am sure I can stop them. I am trying to get them back together. I keep talking to them about times that they loved each other. My mom says I have to stop. I dont want to stop. I want them to remember. Do you think it will work?
Sincerely,
Desperate for Family
Dear Desperate,You sound so sad, sweetie. It is very painful to watch your family break up. Many kids try to get their parents back together, and all kids dream that their parents will remarry. I am sorry to tell you this, but in all of my years as a psychologist, I have never seen that happen.
I think you should join a Banana Splits group at school. You can talk with other kids who feel just like you do. And remember, no matter how things change, your fam-ily is your family for life.
Sincerely,
Miss Sigmund, CGC, TDI, Ph.D.
Miss Sigmund Speaks About Preferences
Dear Miss Siggy,
Two of my friends said that curly hair is better then straight hair. My hair is straight. I know it is dumb, but I was so sad I started to cry. Help.
Love,
Straight and Sad Dear Straight and Sad,Reading letters like this makes my hair curl. I growl and get mad when I hear kids competing over foolish stuff like hair. Curly hair is not better than straight hair and straight hair is not better than curly hair. All of this is just silly.
Dont sweat the small stuff. Love your hair, and let your friends like curly hair. If your classmates say one is bet-ter than the other say Silly Goose, you prefer curly hair, but that doesnt make it better than any other hair!
Love,
Miss Sigmund, CGC, TDI, Ph.D.
The kids are clamoring for something fun to do. Putting aside your housework for a while, you decide to join them for a family venture.
1. Climb aboard. Get on your bikes, roller blades, or skateboard and get moving.
2. Head for the hills. Join an organized nature walk or form your own family group when you visit a park.
3. Enjoy the season's fi rst root beer, frozen custard, or hot dog at a local drive-in restaurant or spring fair. Everything tastes better in the wide-open spaces!
4. Be a sport. Head for a favorite fi shing hole, play softball, go hiking enjoy the outdoor activities after a long winter!
5. Plant a garden. Give each family member a small plot of their own for favorite veggies or fl owers.
Spring is not the time for sitting in front of the television or playing video games. Head for the great outdoors to enjoy this season of new life and
promise as you spend quality time building lasting bonds and memories.
Fitness for kids: Getting your children off the couchFor many children, biking to the playground and playing kickball in the backyard have given way to watching television, playing video games and spending hours online. But it's never too late to get your kids off the couch. Use these simple tips to give your kids a lifelong appreciation for activities that strengthen their bodies.
Set a good example~If you want active kids, be active yourself. Go for a brisk walk...invite your family to join you or to p
