STEWARDSHIP - Diver’s Disease: The old mountain preacher’s text was “They brought Jesus to those who were taken with diver’s disease.” The old preacher declared in his sermon: “Now doctors can scrutinize you, analyze you, and sometimes cure your ills, but when you have diver’s disease, and then only the Lord can cure you. And brethren, there is a regular epidemic of diver’s disease among us.

Evening of Reflection with Fr. Vinny Fortunato, O.F.M.Cap

"From the desert to the Cross: Preparing for the 40 days of Lent"

UNEXPECTED EXPENSE

About a week ago we discovered during an attempted oil delivery to the parish center that the vent line from the oil tank had collapsed. Our oil company tried to clear it so that we could get our oil delivery but to no avail.

We have had a tank company (recommended by our oil company) in to evaluate the situation and the best we can do right now is to go with a temporary above ground tank so that the parish center can continue to be heated throughout the winter.

At the end of the heating season we will make a decision (getting more proposals) on a permanent solution.

The cost of the temporary fix is $4,500, which includes removal of the temporary tank at a later date. You know how important our parish center is in the life of our parish and we could not afford to go without heat. The oil would have run out by this weekend.

The Youth Ministry is very grateful for the overwhelming response from Our Lady Queen of Peace parishioners in assisting us in making our service project a reality. We have assembled over 100 “Blessing Bags” and will be delivering them to the Sisters at the Solanus Soup Kitchen in Harlem on February 9th. Your generosity helped us fill these bags with the daily necessities for those in need. Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth ... You are the light of the world”, we all came together to salt the earth, many grains of salt truly do make a difference. THANK YOU!!! Peace to you and your families, OLQP Youth Group.

LESSON FOR THIS WEEK – Mid-winter blahs? It’s time to remember and laugh! Here goes – Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape. Do the math, count your blessings. Laugh every day – it’s like spiritual jogging. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry. If you worry, you didn’t pray. If you prayed, don’t worry. And finally, no matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

"In the time prior to celebrating our Mass, as the parish family of Our Lady Queen of Peace,

you are invited to spend this time in quiet prayerful reflection, asking our Lady and her Son for peace in our world,

our country, our Church, our families, and in our hearts." Project Viable Babies Postcard Campaign a Big Success + Follow-up Phone Call!!!

Last weekend, our parish participated in the postcard campaign to ask our NJ State Representative to support the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (A-1686/S-537) which would protect babies in the womb at 20 weeks and beyond. (This is just the first step in protecting all babies in the womb.) The campaign was a big success! There is one more thing you can do to help protect the babies in the womb. Call your one State Senator and two Assembly Members and ask them to support the "Pain Capable" Act (A-1686/S-537). You can find their phone numbers by visiting ht tps://www.nj leg.state.n j .us/d is t r ic ts/municipalities.asp, finding your town and the associated NJ District and then selecting the associated District Number. Thank you for participating in this important life-saving project!
