PASTOR’S VIEWPOINT

With the beginning of the new liturgical year, Fr. Kaleab was appointed to a different ministry. I did not receive an official document from the bishop’s office, but a phone call expressing the transfer of Father so as to give him the opportunity to have more pastoral time with the Eritrean community. His presence in our parish was hopefully a positive experience for him. We will keep him and his ministry in our prayers. As pastor, I take it as a learning curve, and after the curve a straight highway till the next curve or hill, something like driving to Montreal with the adventures included in any trip of any length of time. The Advent spirituality sprinkles a lot of joy in many of its presentation of God's love for the creation He creates as He is the Way to fullness of love and life. Living in time and space with a multitude of different persons, all special, all in the image of the creator, manifesting a mosaic that can be difficult to appreciate at certain times of a given day in a complicated space with trees and buildings and moving parts that look like cars and trucks and the odd bike, on a wintery slippery lane. As one gathers a few years of experience and ages like exquisite wine, the Joy of the Gospel takes on a life of its own. Who would have imagined that joy can be found in silence, and instantly, and like an unsuspected moment of elation? The awareness and conscientiousness of the presence of God within and among us brings with the experience a joy that needs to be acknowledged and thanked for. The pink (rose) color of the liturgical third Sunday of Advent does not come close to the massive presence of a mural put together by the early hoar frost, unexpected, beautiful, silent and revealing the powerful presence of Love and Life, available for anyone hospitable and eager to be refreshed by the breath of God which is Joy.

Seasons of Advent Advent has a twofold nature: It prepares us for Christmas, when we recall Christ’s first coming among us, and it is also a time when we look forward to His second coming at the end of the ages. Advent is a season of joyful expectation. During Advent, each Sunday’s Gospel reading has a specific focus. The Old Testament readings, especially those taken from Isaiah, are prophecies about the Messiah and messianic times. The selections from the writings of the Apostles present exhortations and instructions on different themes of this season.

Development & Peace—Share The Journey As we have encountered some real migrants in the short videos over the last 4 weeks, we have to ask ourselves ‘What can I do to help them?’, ‘What can I do to change things?’. These brothers and sisters of ours need our help, our understanding, our compassion and our love. We can make a difference by being aware and informed. If we have the opportunity to encounter a stranger in our country, we can try to reach out to them in friendship and make them welcome in our country. We can also become members of Development and Peace by becoming a Year Round Donor to support those migrants and refugees we will only see on TV. Their plight and suffering are real and they need our help. Development and Peace links with local grass roots organizations that work for the changes in those countries to negate the need for migration, as well as providing emergency aid for destitute children, women and men trying to survive in catastrophic circumstances. Please pick up an envelope at the back of the church to become a Year Round Supporter or go to www.devp.org to join online. Alternately there are also envelopes for cash donations. God can use whatever we can give to work miracles. Be part of a miracle!

Illuminate You are invited to join in a dynamic evening of adoration, praise & worship, reconciliation, and fellowship on Friday, Dec. 14th at St. Alphonsus Parish (315 Munroe Ave). Come and worship Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament as part of a vibrant Catholic community. All are welcome! The evening starts at 7:30 PM. More information is available
