Dear Friends: As I mentioned in other Pastor's Letters recently, Our Lady of Lourdes is facing some personnel changes very soon. Father Manny Lucero is safely back in the Philippines. And come the end of June, two of our long-time priests will be embracing new assignments. After fifteen years of service to our parish, Father Ed Seagriff will be taking on a new assignment. The placement of his next assignment is not yet determined and I'll share that with you once Bishop Barres determines it. After ten years as Chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital, and a very active residence here at Our Lady of Lourdes, Father Cletus Nwaogwugwu is also being given a new assignment. Father Cletus earned his Graduate degree while studying in Spain. This gave him a much needed facility in the Spanish language. A facility which he will use by assisting in St. Boniface Parish in Elmont, and at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Valley Stream. His placement is Elmont will re-introduce Father Cletus to a neighborhood he knows well. His sister and her family are longtime residents of the Elmont area. I'm delighted that he will be close to his family but we will miss his joyous and energetic presence here at Our Lady of Lourdes. Before coming to our parish ten years ago, Father Cletus had assisted me at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hempstead. I'm so glad he accepted our invitation to become a wonderful part of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and we wish him great happiness in his next pastoral ministry. Also hopeful that he will return often to visit our parish! I was also notified this week that Father Ed's position here as Associate Pastor will be filled by Father Kevin Thompson. Father Kevin is a relatively new priest. Upon ordination, Father Kevin spent his first years at St. Rosalie's Parish in Hampton Bays. He followed that assignment with a year long stay at Sacred Heart Parish in North Merrick, before being named Pastor of St. Elizabeth's Parish in Ronkonkoma. Unfortunately, serious health challenges sidelined Father Kevin during the past year and he was granted a health leave to get well. Happily for our parish, Father Kevin is now much better and looking forward to his return to active ministry here at Our Lady of Lourdes. I have known Father Kevin for many years as he was a layman and parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hempstead, where I served as Pastor. Active in Music Ministry there, I was delighted when Kevin decided to enter the Seminary. He is a talented and a good man. We are blessed to have him with us as Associate Pastor. Please make Father Kevin Thompson warmly welcome when he joins us in late June. Finally , a word of updating. Parish Outreach Director Corinne Lok as been undergoing treatment to battle cancer during the past several months. Her treatment follows serious surgery and I know so many of you have been keeping this great soul in your prayers. Her reports from the doctors are good and promising. Please continue the prayers and let's hope this wonderfully compassionate woman will be returned to good health so she can continue the many positive things she has accomplished for so many of those in need. Have a peaceful week. In the Love of Christ,

Msgr. Jim Lisante Pastor

Some sentiments written by our Level 2 students on heart-shaped cards that were offered to Jesus at their First Communion Mass:

“God is the one who saved us from evil.”

“Dear Jesus, I love you because I’m thankful for my new puppy.”

“Dear Jesus, I love you so very much.

I really want to get 100 on my Math test.”

“I love Jesus because he gave me McDonalds.”

“I love Jesus because he carried the cross for us.”

“God, could you bless my baby brother and my family?”

“Jesus, I love you because you gave me a roof over my head.”

“We Care” Blankets

As our wonderful group of “Care Blanket” volunteers continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30am at Parish Outreach, the gifts of their love, time and talent in crocheting

and knitting beautiful blankets for seriously ill children is nothing less than a beautiful thing! Since our group began in November 2009, the completed blanket count stands at 3,065. I’m sure in no time at all we will be adding to this amazing number. Thank you to our lovely group of ladies for all the good work you do to bring love and comfort to many children undergoing cancer care. Outreach is happy to accept donations of crochet hooks, knitting needles, and is especially in need of acrylic yarns in support of this effort. If you are interested in joining our group please contact Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260.

“Ministry of Consolation”

Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a wonderful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes “Ministry of Consolation” team. The most valuable gifts we can give are those that come from the heart. The pre-cious gifts of our time, love and compassion are espe-cially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one. Created to provide warmth, caring and personal attention to assist families in preparation for the funeral mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry’s call to love and care for one another. Thank you so much to all our volunteers for embracing this beautiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to volunteer. Thank you for your consideration.

As spring flowers continue to bloom around us, we are now entering the final phases of our Memorial Garden Beautification Project. As such, we will now be offering a limited number of poured stone “Garden Planters (12)” to be permanently placed in the areas between our memorial benches and at the entrance to our garden. The cost of each planter is $1,000.00, and will display a plaque naming the donor/family, or occa-sion being memorialized. Due to the limited number of available planters, we ask that you place your order early so as to take advantage of this opportunity and provide enough time to have us install the planters for this season. Please inquire within our rectory for further details regarding availability and number of characters that can be used for engraving.

God Bless and enjoy the summer!

Please complete the following to reserve a memorial Garden Planter and

As we enjoy the beauty of Spring, we have begun Phase VI of the Memorial Garden Grotto Restoration. There is another opportunity to purchase memorial bricks, for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to do so. As a reminder, memorial text can contain a message of remembrance for our de-ceased loved ones, but can also pave our “Living Walkway,” marking moments such as; Births, Baptisms, Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations, Holy Orders, Anniversaries…etc. Please watch for the many upcoming changes, as we restore this beautiful garden dedicated to Our Blessed Mother and Bernadette. We will keep you informed in the bulletin of the different opportunities to care and share in memorializing and re-storing items in the Grotto. If you have any questions, please contact the rectory office @ 516 541 3270. Thank you for your continued support. God Bless!

sored by the NYS Right to Life Committee. For info and reservations call 518-434-1293.

ABORTION – IRELAND: Ireland voted to repeal the Eighth Amendment to its constitution to permit abortion. The vote was roughly 2

to 1 in favor of allowing abortion. In 1983, the pro-life Eighth Amendment was passed by a 2 to 1 margin. Michael Cook, editor of

Bioedge stated, “It is obvious that the country has changed in a single generation…Ireland is simply treading the well-worn path towards

secularization which has swept across Western Europe.” The government will now draft legislation, which will probably allow for abor-

tions up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. If there were a serious risk to the health of the mother, an abortion could be carried out up to 24 weeks.

If a lethal fetal abnormality is detected, an abortion could be carried out at any time. Health Minister Simon Harris stated earlier this year

that conscientious objectors would be respected, but it is not clear whether doctors who refuse to perform an abortion would be expected

to refer a patient to another doctor.

U.S. POLICY CHANGE: The US recently put the World Health Organization on notice that it should stop its abortion activism. In 2

statements, the US delegation said that the bureaucracy at WHO must respect international consensus reached on sexual and reproductive

health, and that abortion is not a human right. The delegation expressed ‘deep concern’ about the activities of WHO’s Program on Human

Reproduction. The US also complained that WHO’s program gave ‘elevated status’ to one non-governmental organization – International

Planned Parenthood Federation – allowing them “to operate on an equal footing with governments and international organizations seem-

ingly to the exclusion of other viewpoints.” The US also rebuked the WHO for its understanding that reproductive health includes abor-

tion, a position at odds with the international consensus.”
