Diocese of Yakima Novena for life January 14th to 22nd, 2019 Our Lady of Lourdes Novena for life The Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Novena for Life Jan-uary 10th thru January 18th at 6 P.M. in the Church. We will be saying the Rosary and then the Novena Prayer. The March for Life in Yakima will commence January 26th at 1 P.M. at Grace of Christ Church on Yakima Ave. and finish around 3 P.M. New Parish Directory Lifetouch, the company that will be doing the new OLL directory, will be starting to make calls to schedule appointments for parish photos. If you have changed your telephone number and/or address recently, please call the OLL Church office to update your records. We will also have a sign up sheet after every mass. If you know someone in the military service please bring a picture so we can put it in the parish directory. Pictures will be taken February 5-9.

As we continue our celebration of the Christmas season, we observe today the great Feast of the Epipha-ny of the Lord. The word “epiphany” means manifestation and throughout the Christmas read-ings we have seen that the newborn King is eager to reveal Himself to all those willing to accept His pres-ence in their lives. From poor and humble shepherds to the interna-tional group of magi featured in today’s Gospel passage, Jesus makes it clear that He offers Himself as a gift to everyone. We also see throughout the scriptures that God uses what is familiar to us to draw us to Himself. In the case of the magi – astrologers – He uses a star. Our Lord continues to speak to each one of us today. But we must be alert to “hear” and “see” Him in our daily lives. How can we become better attuned to the ways God is speaking to us? We must strengthen our spiritual “senses” by spending time with the Lord in prayer every single day. In the same way that we set professional goals or exercise goals, we can set spiritual goals to ensure that we are taking the time to listen intentionally to God dai-ly. When we establish a regular, intentional time for prayer, we will find that the Lord continues to speak to us throughout the day. We will more easily recognize the “stars” He places before us to draw us into closer relationship with Him. We will begin to see that He is indeed present in our lives at every moment. What is Pro Life? Are we sure we are 100% Pro Life? – Part VI The Church teaches that all life is sacred and must be cherished and protected from conception to natural death. By keeping this guiding principle in mind in reviewing all the following moral issues of today, we can quickly see what it means to be 100% Pro Life, no exceptions. IVF, In Vitro Fertilization This literally means a process whereby human life is generated in a laboratory environment in a petri dish, separating human procreation from conjugal union. Only 10-20% of these embryos result in a normal pregnancy. What happens to the rest of all these new little lives? They are either unwanted and eliminated, (selective reduction), or stored and frozen, with only 2/3 of embryos surviving the frozen process. This is intentionally creating life, then destroying it because it was not wanted, needed or considered de-fective. There are other ethical and highly effective techniques for identify-ing and treating the causes for infertile couples. Na Pro technology has helped many couples conceive a child.
