1. Welcome

On behalf of the Oshawa Girls Hockey Association executive and our Tournament

committee, I would like to welcome you to our 12th Annual Fall Classic Hockey

tournament.

I would like to take the opportunity to recognize the many volunteers who have helped

make this weekend a reality…our local businesses and vendors who have offered their

support to Oshawa Girls Hockey once again…Thank You!

The players and coaches are looking forward to showing you some great women’s hockey,

team spirit, sportsmanship and Fun, all while playing a game they love. So come out and

support the teams.

You will find arena maps and vendor information within this program. Please do not

hesitate to ask any of our Tournament staff for directions or restaurant advice, skate

sharpening or shopping advice…they would be more than happy to help!

The 2011 Fall Classic will operate out of the following arenas...

This $39.7 million spectacular facility features four NHL-sized ice pads, a spectacular Leisure Pool, Sauna, Whirlpool, “Lazy River” water feature and a two storey Waterslide, Gym, Fitness Centre, elevated indoor walking track and Program Rooms. The Legends Centre is also home to the newest Oshawa Public Library Branch and the Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres Branch.

Activity rooms can be rented per hour for team meals; parties etc… contact the Legends Centre directly for booking information and hours of availability.

3. Safety

We strongly encourage all teams visiting the tournament to have an emergency plan in place and to

remember to restock your trainers and first aid kits.

For your own safety and the safety of your trainers, should a player be injured during a game, please

wait until the official stops the play before entering the ice surface.

In the event of a serious injury, please notify the arena staff and the tournament official immediately.

Players requiring a hospital will most likely be taken to Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

3.1 Concussions

In the event a player suffers a concussion or if you feel that your player may have suffered a concussion,

please exercise extreme caution and have your player seen by a doctor immediately and rest them for

the remainder of the tournament. Concussions are traumatic brain injuries and are to be taken very

seriously. In addition, most concussions are deemed by players or parents as “non-injuries” and go

unreported….so even if the symptoms aren’t severe or serious, please complete an accident report and

submit it.

6. Other Things to Do

Tournament weekends are typically busy for everyone involved. However, if you are looking fro

something to do away from the arena, here are a couple of suggestions:

Swimming - Family, team or pleasure swim at one of Oshawa’s pools located at Legends Centre,

South Oshawa Community Centre, Donovan Recreation Complex, or Civic Centre.

The Movies - Take in a movie at one of the regions theatres:

8. OWHA Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct identifies the standard of behavior which is expected of all Ontario Women's

Hockey Association (OWHA) Members, including athletes, coaches, parents, directors, volunteers, staff,

chaperones and others.

OWHA Teams, Associations, Programmes and Leagues are committed to providing a sport environment

in which all individuals are treated with respect. Members of the OWHA shall conduct themselves at all

times in a fair and responsible manner. Members shall refrain from comments or behaviours which are

disrespectful, offensive, abusive, racist or sexist. In particular, behaviour which constitutes harassment,

abuse, bullying or cyber-bullying will not be tolerated by the OWHA.

During the course of all OWHA activities and events, members shall avoid behaviour which brings OWHA

members or the sport of hockey into disrepute, including but not limited to abusive use of alcohol and

non-medical use of drugs.

Members shall not use unlawful or unauthorized drugs or narcotics or performance enhancing drugs or

methods.

OWHA members shall at all times adhere to the OWHA Team, Association, Programme and League

operational policies and procedures, to rules governing the OWHA events and activities and to rules

governing any competition in which the member participates on behalf of the OWHA.

Members of the OWHA shall not engage in activity or behaviour which endangers the safety of others.

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, suspension or release

from membership. Such action may result in the member losing the privileges that come with

membership in the OWHA, including the opportunity to participate in OWHA activities.

2011 Oshawa Girls Fall Classic Rules

OWHA Sanction # 1112029

1. Hockey Canada and OWHA rules shall apply. 2. All teams from outside Canada require a Travel permit, certified roster and Medical insurance. Travel permits must be provided to the Registration Table upon the team’s registration. 3. All players participating in the tournament must be properly registered through the OWHA (or their appropriate provincial or national governing body affiliated with the IIHF) to play on the team with which they are listed, or qualified to play by a proper OWHA “Pickup Consent” form or IIHF equivalent. 4. Any changes made to the roster form electronically submitted to the tournament must be made in writing using the OWHA “Pickup Consent” form and submitted to the Tournament organizers (@ Headquarters) prior to the first game. If playing 7am-10am have the convenors at the arena initial the pick-up form and then submit at Tournament Headquarters when you register the team. 5. A maximum 17 skaters and 2 goaltenders may be registered with each team. 6. All teams must register at Legends Centre on Friday morning at least one (1) hour prior to the team's first game. In the event the team’s first game is between 7am and 10am on Friday, those teams will be permitted to register immediately after their first game. 7. All teams must be available to play 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. 8. There will be a timed two (2) minute warm-up beginning when the ice surface is ready. 9. All games will consist of 3 periods (10 minute-10 minute-12 minutes), stop-time; except Bantam AA and Midget AA, which will consist of 3 periods (12 minute–15 Minute –15 Minutes) stop-time. 10. In the event that a total of 20 penalties (minor, major, misconduct) have been assessed in one game, the clock shall be operated on a run-time basis for the duration of the game. 11. As soon as there is a 5 goal differential, the clock shall be operated on a run-time basis. Once the differential is less than 5 goals, the clock will resume on a stop-time basis. 12. All players, including teams from out of country, must wear equipment approved by their governing body. 13. Players will shake hands after each game. 14. One - 30 second timeout will be allowed for each team during Elimination (5, 9 or 11 team division) Semi- final and Championship games only. There are no timeouts in Round Robin Games.

15. Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. (no points awarded for the Elimination game – winner continues on) 16. Standings after the round robin (in some divisions after 2 games) will be calculated on the basis of the points awarded as per rule #15. In the event of a tie between teams at the end of round robin play (or 2 game divisions), the following criteria will be used to break the tie in the following priority order:

a) Winner between the tied teams when they played head to head (not applicable in a three way tie) b) Percentage as calculated by dividing team’s total “Goals For” by the SUM of the team’s “Goals For and Goals Against”. TGF / (GF+GA) = %, c) Fewest Goals Against, d) Most Goals For, e) Fewest Penalty Minutes, f) Coin Toss 17. In a 4 Team Division, 1

st & 2

nd place teams after ranking, as determined by rule #16, advance to the Final

game. 18. In a 5 Team Division, the teams will be ranked after 2 games, as determined by rule #16. The 4

ranked teams will play an Elimination game; the winner will advance to semi-finals. 19. In a 6 Team Division, 1

st & 2

nd place team after ranking, as determined by rule #16, advance to the Final

game. 20. In an 8 Team Division, there are 2 pools of 4 teams. 1st & 2nd place teams in each pool, as determined by rule #16, advance to the semi-finals. 21. In a 9 Team Division, there will be a pool of 4 teams and a 5 team pool. In the pool of 4 teams, the 1

place ranked teams, as determined by rule #16, will advance to Semi-finals. The 5 team pool will be ranked after 2 games, as determined by rule #16. The 4

th & 5

th place ranked teams will play an Elimination

game, the winner will continue in the RR (no points will be awarded to the winner). The 1st

In a 10 Team Divisions, there are 2 pools of 5 teams. 1st & 2nd place teams in each pool, as determined by rule #16, advance to the semi-finals. 23. In an 11 Team Division, there is a pool of 6 teams and a pool of 5 teams. In the pool of 6, the 1

th place ranked teams will play an Elimination

by rule #16, advance to semi-finals. In addition there will be 1 Wildcard, which will be the top ranked team, as determined by rule #16, after ranking all of the remaining teams. 25. In a 14 Team Division, there are 2 pools of 5 teams and 1 pool of 4 teams. The 1

st place team in all 3 pools,

as determined by rule #16, advance to the semi-finals. In addition there will be 1 Wildcard, which will be the top ranked team, as determined by rule #16, after ranking all of the remaining teams.

26. In a 16 Team Division, there are 4 pools of 4 teams: 1st place teams in each pool, as determined by rule #16, advance to the semi-finals. 27. In an 18 Team Division, there are 3 pools of 6 teams. The 1st place teams in each pool, as determined by rule #16, advance to semi-finals. In addition, there will be 1 Wildcard, which will be the top ranked team, as determined by rule #16, after ranking all of the remaining teams. 28. Elimination, Semi-Finals & Championship games are played to a winner. In the event of a tie at the end of regulation time, a sudden victory 5 minute overtime will commence. Teams will play 4 on 4 Plus Goalies. Players may be changed at any time. Goalies may be “pulled” at any time and a substitute player from the bench may be used. If there is still a penalty being served at the end of regulation time it will carry over into the OT, so will be 4 on 3 until the penalty time is served. If still tied at the end of 5 minutes, a shoot out will occur. 29. Shoot Outs: Teams do not change ends for Overtime or Shoot Outs. Each team must designate 5 shooters (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5) directly onto the game sheet prior to the start of the game. Any player serving a penalty at the end of overtime will not be eligible to participate in the shoot out. All players except shooter and goalies will be on the bench. Once a player has shot, they will go to the penalty box. Shooters from both teams will shoot simultaneously, starting at centre ice. All 5 designated shooters from each team will shoot. If still tied, each team will designate one shooter at a time until there is a winner. A player may not shoot for a second time until all players on the game sheet (except goalies) have shot. 30. The home teams shall wear their lighter coloured jerseys, and the visiting team will wear their darker coloured jerseys. In the event of a colour conflict, the home team must change their jerseys. 31. All players and team officials must sign the game sheet prior to each game. Any player or team official who is serving a suspension must record that they are serving the suspension on the game sheet in the area where they would normally sign their name. Ex. (SERVING 1 of 3, or SERVING 2 of 2). 32. Teams are requested to change as quickly as possible after their game and to vacate the dressing rooms within 30 minutes following the game. Teams are not permitted to hold parent or team meetings in dressing rooms as this will delay the next team from entering the dressing room. Teams are also responsible to clean up after themselves and to notify a tournament official or arena staff member if the dressing room needs cleaning. 33. The consumption of alcohol in dressing rooms is strictly prohibited in all arenas. 34. The OGHA strongly supports the Zero Tolerance Policy against abuse of OWHA Officials. Any player, team member, team official, or spectator may be asked to leave the playing area or arena premises by an OWHA Official. 35. The decisions of the Tournament Officials are final.

Once a player or team official has been suspended/ejected from a game, she/he cannot return to the ice to participate in any post-game ceremonies (hand-shaking, medal presentations, etc.) If the suspended person does return to the ice, further suspensions will be issued
