Do you remember that children’s song,

My God is so big

So strong and so mighty

There’s nothing my God can not do….

Now, I wonder how many of you kept going and sang the next line .

The Fiji Mission team came back with a video of their trip and in it is a group of Fijian school children singing this song, loudly and with enthusiasm. They are singing with boldness; proclaiming the truth about who God is and what He can do. It’s inspiring and I am praying that the inspiration becomes contagious. Our vision statement encourages us to be bold in our faith, and brave in our actions, as we seek to be men and women who influence society for the glory of God. So what is our next step?

Step 1. Consultation and reflection

Under God’s guidance, we want to develop big and bold plans, but we know that to do this wisely, review and evaluation of the current plan, is essential. We need to be both honest and thorough in our investigation so that we can build on a strong foundation. Our last Strategic Plan was one of rebuilding identity and community. It was a plan for consolidation. We therefore have been engaged in a number of data collecting exercises to ascertain how well the goals set in Strategic Plan 2013-17, have been achieved.

So thank you to those of you who have already completed the section surveys, Learning Hub survey, been involved in focus groups, attended class parent meetings, participated in interviews, or just called in to share your thoughts and ideas. This is such valuable feedback and crucial for authentic parent partnership. If you would still like to come and chat, please contact the front office to make a time to speak with me, or one of the staff team.

Step 2. Reporting back

Collecting data is great, but it is equally important to do something with it! Over the next few weeks, newsletters will be publishing some of the key findings from our surveys and focus groups. Staff will be holding a special staff meeting in week 5 to review their findings from each of the OCS Key Plans, and the Board will review the findings to determine the priorities and directions for the next

stage. The term 3 Association Meeting will also have a dedicated time to update the Association on key findings and give time for prayer and discussion.

Step 3. Strategic Plan 2018 – 22

Next the leadership team will be heading off for a 2 day Strategic Retreat in the first week of the school holidays. During this time they will also meet with the Board, to pull together the draft Strategic Plan 2018 – 22.

This draft plan will then be presented to staff early in term 4, and then to the Association in the term 4 meeting, together with budget and updated Facility Masterplan, as has been our practice for several years now.

For now….

We would greatly value your prayers and your feedback. We want to have big and brave dreams AND we want to act with wisdom and integrity. Our God is so big and so strong and so mighty, and we His people are called to act with wisdom, humility and graciousness. It will be an exciting journey and a great time to be part of the OCS community.

Blessings to you and your family

Dear Parents,

This year we will be participating in the Woolworths Earn &

Learn program. Through this program we will be able to get

new educational resources for our school/early learning

centre – and all we need you to do is shop for your

groceries at Woolworths. From Wednesday 26th July to

Tuesday 19th September, we are collecting Woolworths

Earn & Learn Stickers. You will get one Woolworths Earn &

Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift cards).

Place the Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn

Sticker Sheet and when it’s complete, the Sticker Sheet can be dropped into

the Front Office here at the school or at your local Woolworths. At the end of

the promotion, we’ll be able to get some great new equipment. The range is

extensive and offers lots of items ideal for our students – including resources

for Maths, English, Science and some fantastic fun supplies for Arts & Craft,

Sport and for our library. If you’d like to know more visit

woolworths.com.au/earnandlearn.

Thank You!

REMEMBER YOUR SURVEYS

… products that you might buy every week can change the world?

OCS staff had the privilege of hearing the ‘thankyou’ story at the CEN National

Conference a couple of weeks ago. The co-founder of Thankyou, Daniel Flynn, was

a student at Donvale Christian College in Victoria, and at 19 he was confronted

with the realities of life for 1 billion people around the world living in devastating

poverty. Thankyou Water was the result of the determination of a handful of

teenagers who agreed that ‘impossible’ was just an opinion, not a fact!

Thankyou now distributes a range of products where 100% of profits go to fund

sustainable solutions for the most marginalised and vulnerable people living in

extreme poverty (less than $1.90 a day). To date, they have given over $5.5 million

to helping hundreds and thousands in need.

They do this through the combined efforts of the people in local communities they

serve, Impact Partners, the thankyou team, and YOU!

Their full product range includes:

-Water and body care to help get water and sanitation programs to people in need

-Food to help feed people in need

-Baby care and nappies to help get child and maternal health to families in need

…Every 103 seconds a mother dies in childbirth … 99% of deaths happen in developing nations … Globally, 2.7 million babies don’t make it through their first month of life every year because they don’t have access to basic health care

with mission partners, their product range and how you can subscribe to their

emails and receive an e-copy of ‘Chapter One’ – the first instalment of this

You will find Thankyou products in Orange at IGA, Woolworths and

We’ve had the awesome (and humbling!) privilege in partnering with these groups of people to fund access to water, sanitation, food and maternal and child health solutions for over 700,000 people in need in 20 countries.
