Serbia strolled through 4-1 in the first round against an under strength Sweden team who were missing Robin Soderling. Serbia played without top-ranked Novak Djokovic. Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic won their singles on opening day but when the latter teamed with Nenad Zimonjic in the doubles they failed to close it out at the first attempt. However, Tipsarevic returned on Sunday to see off Michael Ryderstedt in straight sets and Dusan Lajovic won the final point on his Davis Cup debut. Serbia will travel to Czech Republic in the World Group quarterfinals, 6-8 April. The nations have met 10 times previously splitting the results. On the last occasion Serbia came back from 2-1 down on home soil in the 2010 semifinals before going on to win the Davis Cup for the first time.
