Maharaja Surajmal Institute has seen a number of important developments throughout the year. The college newsletter is a showcase of the activities and events that are taking place in our college which provides a platform for highlighting the merits and academic achievements of the institute. Students were formally welcomed and introduced to the culture of the Institute. The detailed program structure and evaluation criteria were explained to students. They were also briefed about various training programs being planned time to time to develop competencies among students for approaching the job market. From the Director’s Desk

It is my great pleasure to extend

heartfelt greetings to the readers

of this newsletter. Maharaja

Surajmal Institute has seen a

number of important

developments throughout the

year. MSI has become a

dynamic venue where brilliant minds from all over the

country converge and share their values and culture. The

true essence of education is to create an environment to

a technical education. Thus, we have several new and

informative events to share with you. It is my pleasure to put before you the snapshot of

activities and events through this newsletter. I am

grateful for the support of students, alumni, colleagues,

and faculty members in the last year. The college

newsletter is a showcase of the activities and events that

are taking place in our college which provides a

platform for highlighting the merits and academic

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The Orientation Program for the first semester students

was organized on August 13, 2019. Students were

formally welcomed and introduced to the culture of the

Institute. The detailed program structure and evaluation

criteria were explained to students. They were also

briefed about various training programs being planned

time to time to develop competencies among students

for approaching the job market. The program ended by

creating a significant impact on the students and

motivating them to achieve great heights.

ANNUAL DAY

Maharaja Surajmal Institute celebrated its Annual Day

on January 11, 2020. Prof. Prem Vrat, Pro- Chancellor,

North Cap University, Gurugram graced the occasion as

the Chief Guest. Prof. Rachita Rana, Director, MSI

extended a hearty welcome to the dignitaries and

delivered the annual report. She presented the

achievements of the institute, academic as well as co-

curricular, and wished success to the students. The

Annual Prize Distribution function was a moment of

pride and honor for all the winners and achievers of the

Institute. The students who secured first, second and

third position were awarded with certificates, mementos

and prize money for their commendable performance in

academics and extracurricular activity.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEET

Annual Sport Day for 2019-20 session was organized

on January 25, 2020 at college sports ground in

collaboration with NSS cell of MSI. The day started

with march-past by the students of various

departments, torch lighting by chief guest, oath taking

ceremony. The annual sports day welcome Hon‟ble

Chief Guest Sh. Surinder Pahal ji, President Kabbadi

Association of India. The students participated

enthusiastically. There were a wide variety of

activities and games like Relay, Tug-of-War, Discus

Throw, Shot-put that aimed at the overall exercise of

the human body. Every year we organize various

competitions of Cricket, Volleyball, Football,

Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carom etc. for boys

and girls. The event turned out to be a huge success

and showed an active participation with full zest and

enthusiasm.

ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE:

DR. SARUP SINGH MEMORIAL DEBATE

To celebrate the Birth centenary of Dr. Sarup Singh

on January 15, 2020, an Inter-college debate was

organized on the topic “Privatization of elementary

education is the way forward to ensure quality”.

ANNUAL CULTURAL FEST

GENESIS 2020

Genesis 2020, Annual Cultural Fest was organized on

January 6-7, 2020. Genesis embodies the idea of

holistic development of students and ensures that

every student gets a platform to showcase their talent.

It also provides a platform for students from every

year to enhance their leadership skills by organizing

events. Genesis 2020 was a two-day event with

plethora of events ranging from literary to creativity

to cultural to gaming like Battle of Bands, Ad Act,

Newspaper Dress making competition, Creative

writing, cooking without fire, Dramathon, Stand-up,

Minute to Fame, Street Dance, Innovision, Street Play

Competition, Mr. and Ms. Genesis.

AVENSIS 2020

Maharaja Surajmal Group of Institutions organized its

Annual Techno-Management Fest “Avensis” on

January 8-9, 2020. The two days extravaganza saw

elaborate participation of over 5000 students from

various colleges from all over India. Avensis 2020

had a concoction of over 37 events for the students.

The fest comprised of Technical and Managerial

events including Codify, Mockstock, Hackathon,

Parakh, LAN Gaming, Robotics, Fun and creative

events like The Ad Mad Show, Meme-O-Maniac,

Rannbhoomi, Literary and Quiz events like Tap a

Tale, JAM, Creative Writing all of which attracted

participants from all over India.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “EMERGINH

TRENDS IN BIG DATA, IOT AND CYBER

SECURITY”

Two days National Conference was organized on

March 13-14, 2020 to provide a platform and

stimulate the discussion on the latest findings of the

researchers working in the field of Big Data, Internet

of Things, AI and Machine Learning, ICT and e-

Learning Methods, Networks and Communications

and Cyber Security.

Webinar on Mental Well-Being

A webinar on mental health titled “Grow through

what you go through” was conducted by the faculty of

Maharaja Surajmal Institute on May 25, 2020 on

Zoom platform in the wake of Mental Health week to

discuss the state of mental health of students during

the lockdown and how to cope with it. The speakers

for the same were Dr. Promila Dabas and Dr. Vanita

Webinar on The Corona Pandemic

Challenge and ICT in Education and

Teaching

A webinar on the corona pandemic challenge: coping

up with physical, emotional and digital stress and ICT

in education and teaching: learning post corona

pandemic was organized by Maharaja Surajmal

Institute on 1 June, 2020. Dr. Puja Dewan, medical

consultant, gynecologist and Prof. Rachita Rana were

the keynote speakers of the webinar.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

FDP ON “QUALITY 4.0: AN APPROACH

TOWARDS INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGY”

One Week Faculty Development Programme on

“Quality 4.0: An Approach towards Innovative

Pedagogy” from July 15-19, 2019 was organized.

Various issues related to the Quality 4.0 were

discussed and deliberations were made and special

emphasis was laid on the topics: An Approach

Towards Innovative Pedagogy, Role of Faculty

Development Programme in Imparting Quality

Education, Motivation of Students and Teachers,

Employment as an Outcome of Innovative Pedagogy.

FDP ON “RESEARCH METHODS AND

DATA ANALYSIS USING SPSS”

Another one-week FDP on “Research Methods and

Data Analysis using SPSS” (Module-I) was

successfully conducted from February 17, 2020. Dr.

Ajay Kumar Chauhan, an eminent speaker for FDP

shared his knowledge on the various sub-topics of

research methods and SPSS. The FDP witnessed

participation from more than 80 faculty members of

different departments of MSI and other institutes of

repute. All the sessions proved to be very enriching

for the participants and enhanced practical skills of

faculty for implementing SPSS in teaching and

research.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

Industrial visits for the students of BBA and B.Com

(H) were organized to SEBI Regional Office and

Max Insurance, Delhi. For BCA students an industrial

visit to Training Basket, Ithum Tower, Noida was

organized to give students industrial exposure on

topics “Cloud Computing, Network Security,

Machine Learning, Deep Learning, & Project

Discussion”. An Educational visit to NCERT (CIET)

was organized by B.Ed department to familiarize the

students with all aspects of teaching and learning

related to NCERT.

PRE-PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES

Large number of pre-placement activities and

workshops were conducted for the students of all

courses to enhance their personality development on

various topics like resume writing, advanced excel,

group discussion, CV building session for mock

placement, pre-placement talk, how to crack

interview, mock interview, aptitude test, cracking the

CTET and many more. The main aim of these

activities is to groom students so that they can deal

with the challenging situations at work. Since pre-

placement time can be quite daunting, these sessions

also help in motivating the students by increasing

their self-esteem. These activities also help in

sharpening the skills of individual's for success in

placement tests and to handle interviews in the best

possible manner.

WORKSHOPS, SPECIAL LECTURES

AND SEMINARS

The main objective of organizing workshops, special

lecture and seminars for students is to make them

acquainted with the conceptual as well as practical

knowledge on various existing and emerging subjects.

MSI organized 26 workshops, 12 special lectures, 7

seminars and 49 activities in the academic session.

NEW INITIATIVES

SUMMER SCHOOL

Six Weeks‟s Summer School for Python,

Data Analytics and Machine Learning was

conducted by HACKVEDA Ltd. for BCA students

of MSI from June 17, 2019 to July 26, 2019. At the

end of the workshop, Forty Two qualified the MTA

Exam conducted by Microsoft Technologies, USA

on To promote project development and research

aptitude among the students, these students were

divided in eight groups and projects were also

allocated to each of the group which are to be

mentored by the faculty members of MSI along with

the mentors from Hackveda Ltd. Students got better

learning and exposure to work on live projects

which gives them an edge for various placement

drives.

WINTER SCHOOL

Four week‟s winter training on, “Ethical Hacking

and Web Development for Full Stack Website

Development”, was conducted for BCA students

from December 23, 2019 to January 17, 2020.

Resource person for the training was Mr.

Devanshu Shukla, Founder at Hackveda and Yash

Sharma. They encouraged the students to get

involved in the upcoming trends and technologies

that will prevail in the future and highlighted a

few programming languages such as HTML5,

CSS3, JavaScript and frameworks such as Spring

Boot, Angular and the importance of these in the

Front End Development. He especially focused on

RESTful Services, Customizing User

Authentication and bootstrap for product

development as per the requirement of the market.

At the end of the workshop, twelve students

qualified the MTA Exam conducted by Microsoft

Technologies, USA.

ADVANCED EXCEL TRAINING BY ICT

(200Hrs. TRAINING)

MSI is member Institute of ICT Academy and

MSI hosted the Financial Literacy Training of 200

Hrs starting from Jan. 28, 2020 to March 13,

2020. Mrs. Anju Passi, Academic and Corporate

Trainier on behalf on ICT Academy trained

students on the financial literacy and developing

the soft skills .Major topics covered Activities

conducted by MSI during session: 2019-20 during

training were :Banking and its Operations, mutual

fund, CIBIL score and types insurance, loans and

debt recovery, customer care, Soft Skills,

Communication Skills, interpretation skills

presentation skills time management goal setting

team building creative thinking and leadership

skills.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

The Institute has regularly maintained an excellent

and exemplary account on academic front by

producing University Gold Medalists and distinction

holders. Students have bagged Gold Medal in various

programmes: BBA (Banking & Insurance), B.Com

(H), BCA and B.Ed in 13th

convocation held on 3rd

December 2019 at GGSIP University.
