Promote as widely as possible to attractteams to participate in the event.

Once the organiserhas an idea o the number o

    teams that they would like

to invite to take part in this

    event, along with the dates,

    venue(s) and costs or the

    tournament or league, the

next step will be to promoteas widely as possible to

    attract teams to participate.

There is a range o methods

    that the organiser may wish

to use to promote the event,

    such as producing posters

    and flyers, using the

    Internet, word o mouth

    through riends and local

    ootball clubs, etc. Futsal is

a new sport or most people

    in England, and so the

    promotion and marketing

    stage is crucial to help

    people understand what the

    game is and to encourage

    them to participate in theevent.

    Once teams have been

    recruited, the event

    organiser needs to liaise

with the teams prior to the

event or prior to the start o

    the league season, ensuring

    that they have all the

    PROMOTIONAnd

    Communication

    The FA Affiliation

    inormation they need to

    help them prepare properly.

    Inormation such as: the

    tournament rules, the ormat

and fixtures, the kit that they

    will be expected to bring,

    the location o the venue,

time o arrival, any costs andany registration orms. I it is

    a league then the organiser

    should ideally look to

    contact the teams prior to

    each match and ensure that

    they are aware o their

    match details.

The event organiser should contact the local County FA

prior to the tournament or league to discuss the need for

appropriately affiliating the event with them.

    equipmentVenueand

The choice of venue is veryimportant to ensure asuccessful event.

    This is especially

    important when

    accommodating a number

    o teams. Futsal should be

    played at an indoor sports

    hall, preerably with a

    wooden or rubber/synthetic

    floor. Futsal should not be

    played on grass and

    where possible not on

    artificial tur either. The

    pitch should ideally have a

    two metre run-of around

    the perimeter o the pitch.

    At a tournament,

    depending on the age o

    the participants that you

    are catering or, you may

    need to consider the

    length o time that players

    are not on court in

    between games. Young

    players may get restless i

    there are long gaps

    between their matches.

    For similar reasons, it

    would be beneficial to

have an area such as aca or the teams to wait

    in between games,

particularly i there is not a

    spectator viewing area.

    The event organiser will

    need to consider whether

    the venue has the

    necessary Futsal goals,

and i not then how these

    will be obtained. It would

also be advantageous ithere was an electronic

    scoreboard that could be

    used or the matches, but

    this is not essential.

RulesEventPrior to the event it is important to pay someconsideration to the rules that you intend tofollow during the league or tournament.

    These need to be

    finalised and circulated to

    the teams and the reerees

    beore the event or beore

the start o the season so

    that all parties have time

    to understand how the

    tournament or league will

    be played.

    Where possible, stick to

the FIFA Futsal Laws o the

    Game, but you may need

to modiy them in order tofit the specific

    circumstances o your

    event, particularly in a

    one day Futsal tournament.

Common rule changes or a one daytournament or estival are:

Match Duration: requently the games areshortened and played on a non-stopping

clock in order to fit all games into theallotted schedule.

Timeouts: in order to keep games runningto time then requently timeouts are either

reduced (one per team or entire game) or

    removed entirely.

Accumulated Fouls: i the duration o the

game has been reduced then the number oaccumulated ouls that can be conceded

beore a penalty is given is oten reduced in

order to make this more relevant

    and appropriate.

    The event organiser

    should also consider other

    elements that are specific

    to your tournament or

league such as disciplinaryaction taken ollowing a

    sending of (particularly in

    a league scenario), what

happens i there is a draw

    at the end o a

    knock-out game or when

    teams are on equal points

at the end o a group stage.

    For a league you should

    also consider elements

    such as teams ailing to

turn up or cancelling at the

    last minute.

REFEREESIn official Futsal matches thereare two referees to officiate thematch, a third referee to

manage the benches and tokeep count of the team foulsand a timekeeper.

The event organiser will need to organise thereerees in advance o the tournament or league,

ensuring that they are able to attend and that relevant

communications have been sent to them (e.g. time o

arrival, matches to be reereed, teams taking part, etc).

The event organisermay decide it is

unnecessary to have somany match ocials. It is

    suggested that there is at

    least one reeree and a

    timekeeper who will also

    keep count o team ouls

    during the match.

    The event organiser

    should also take into

    account the need to rest

    match ocials during the

course o a one daytournament, rather than

    repeatedly be called upon

    to ociate games. This

    can obviously lead to

    exhaustion or the reerees,

    resulting in poorer

    decisions being made.
