Oz Opera presents The Barber of Seville Oz Opera is coming back to Gloucester Public School to perform The Barber of Seville. ‘A serious case of love at first sight is a big problem for Count Almaviva. Enter the resourceful barber named Figaro, who cleverly solves everyone’s problems — for a price. Secret letters, cunning disguises and all sorts of confusion will delight young audiences as the boy gets the girl and Figaro gets paid!

Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is one of the most popular operas ever written. This travelling production will enthral school students of all ages, complete with beautiful costumes and engaging scenery.’ There will be two session times on Tuesday 31 March - 11:30am (infants) and 1:30pm (primary). The cost is $8 per student and can be paid at the office/online or sent in with your child/ren. Permission notes are at the back of this newsletter. This performance is a wonderful opportunity for our students so don’t miss out! Susie McLeod Oz Opera Coordinator

Stage 3 Canberra excursion deposit due next Friday 20 March Our Stage 3 excursion to Canberra will be on Monday 24 – Thursday 27 August 2020. As with most tour companies, we are required to pay a deposit to lock in bookings for accommodation and attractions. Therefore, we require a deposit to be paid no later than next Friday 20 March to guarantee your child’s place on this trip. Should finances be an issue, please contact the office to arrange a meeting with Mrs Wakefield to discuss payment options. We look forward to your child experiencing all this fantastic excursion has to offer. Please see the notes sent home with your child last week. Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

Year 6 Parents: Expression of Interest Forms for High School in 2021 A reminder to return the form within the booklet, ‘Moving into Year 7 in a NSW government school in 2021’ by no later than Friday 20th March 2020. While this is not an application to enrol, this form is essential in indicating which secondary school you are intending to send your child to.

Parents, please read all sections of this booklet carefully as it outlines the options available to you and gives you the basis for selecting the right secondary school for your child. For most students, the locally zoned high school is Gloucester High School. If you have any questions about this form or need assistance in any way, please feel free to contact me after you have read through it. Rod Maggs – Assistant Principal (Stage 3)

SRC Fundraiser – Koala Day The SRC’s Koala fundraiser is this week - Thursday (12/3/20). As we have all seen throughout our difficult summer of bushfires, the environment of the koalas has been greatly damaged and many koalas have been badly injured. All moneys raised on Thursday, will be divided between the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie – Plant a Koala Food Tree program (https://www.koalahospital.org.au/act-now/plant-a-koala-food-tree) and Koalas in Care, which was co-founded by an amazing couple, Christine and Paul McLeod, who at their property at Taree, dedicate their time to rescuing, caring and rearing injured, sick and orphaned koalas (https://www.bhg.com.au/how-to-donate-to-fawna-and-koalas-in-care). In class, students will be completing a koala artwork and discussing the impact the fires have had on our wildlife. All gold coin donations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting our SRC.

SRC Committee Andrew and Lachlan take the next step

After heading to Forster for Manning Zone trials recently, both Andrew Fraser and Lachlan Sansom headed off to Maitland last Friday for the Hunter cricket trials. Both boys again displayed their talents in batting, bowling and fielding amongst a field of extremely talented young players. The boys both impressed the selectors to be shortlisted for the final ‘invite only’ selection session. They both head back to Newcastle again this Friday for the final trial and we wish them all the best of luck. Well done, lads! Rod Maggs GPS Cricket Coordinator
