This is my first newsletter article to you as your new Community Lay Director for 2018. Alt- hough I have written several newsletter articles over the past two years, this one comes with a different emphasis. This means in my role as Community Lay Director, with the commitment of the other board members and myself, we will be setting out to consider our goals and objectives for the Community in 2018. I have been praying since the November Gathering that God will give us the direction, energy, and vision to fulfill our role as board members. It will be our goal to make our Community stronger and truly the hands and feet of God. As we discern the questions about what can we do better this year; what needs to be changed; and what can be done to make sure each walk is filled prior to cut off dates. I am reaching out to you, the Community, for your input. Your board will be setting some realistic goals to address some of the questions. We feel we need to set goals be- cause they will help us build trust, a stronger board, and a purpose driven community. The greatest benefit to ones life will not be our accomplishments but rather what happens inside of us while were moving toward our goals. We need to set good goals because good goals will be answered. Proverbs 11:27 says, If your goals are good, you will be respected.(TEV). When we give our lives to accomplishing what God has called us to do, it brings honor to Him and builds a legacy on earth. So, this is where you can help us. If there are things you feel we should be considering making the Gatherings more engaging, more spiritual, more inviting - please let one of your Board members know. Or, please, feel free to send me an email sharing your thoughts. If you want to get involved in some way by supporting the efforts of the commu- nity and the board, please let us know that as well. We need volunteers to support each of the operating groups on the board. You see, when it comes to helping, God always starts with what we have. We may not have much time. We may not think we have much talent. But we can give God everything in our life. We can give him our heart. We can give him our reputation. We can give him our past, our present, and our future. It may not be much, but we can give him what He has given to us – our desire to serve Him. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:25-26, All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So, I run with a purpose every step(NLT). Paul was a purpose driven goal setter. We need to be that too, so we can win the prize God has prepared for us in Heaven. I look forward to seeing you all at our first Gathering on January 19 th at the Garden City Church of Christ. It will start at 7:00 p.m. with snacks and fellowship! May God bless each of you in 2018 with good health, answered prayers and a continuing desire to reach out to those who do not know Him. I am looking forward to seeing what God has planned for us in 2018! De Colores Phil Newton

A Note from the New Community Lay Director…

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is my first newsletter article to you as your new Community Lay Director for 2018. Alt-

hough I have written several newsletter articles over the past two years, this one comes with a different emphasis.

This means in my role as Community Lay Director, with the commitment of the other board members and myself, we

will be setting out to consider our goals and objectives for the Community in 2018.

I have been praying since the November Gathering that God will give us the direction, energy, and vision to fulfill our

role as board members. It will be our goal to make our Community stronger and truly the hands and feet of God. As

we discern the questions about what can we do better this year; what needs to be changed; and what can be done to

make sure each walk is filled prior to cut off dates. I am reaching out to you, the Community, for your input.

Your board will be setting some realistic goals to address some of the questions. We feel we need to set goals be-

cause they will help us build trust, a stronger board, and a purpose driven community. The greatest benefit to one’s

life will not be our accomplishments but rather what happens inside of us while we’re moving toward our goals. We

need to set good goals because good goals will be answered. Proverbs 11:27 says, “If your goals are good, you will

be respected.” (TEV). When we give our lives to accomplishing what God has called us to do, it brings honor to Him

and builds a legacy on earth.

So, this is where you can help us. If there are things you feel we should be considering making the Gatherings more

engaging, more spiritual, more inviting - please let one of your Board members know. Or, please, feel free to send

me an email sharing your thoughts. If you want to get involved in some way by supporting the efforts of the commu-

nity and the board, please let us know that as well. We need volunteers to support each of the operating groups on

the board.

You see, when it comes to helping, God always starts with what we have. We may not have much time. We may not

think we have much talent. But we can give God everything in our life. We can give him our heart. We can give him

our reputation. We can give him our past, our present, and our future. It may not be much, but we can give him what

He has given to us – our desire to serve Him.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:25-26, “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will

fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So, I run with a purpose every step” (NLT). Paul was a purpose driven

goal setter. We need to be that too, so we can win the prize God has prepared for us in Heaven. I look forward to

seeing you all at our first Gathering on January 19th at the Garden City Church of Christ. It will start at 7:00 p.m. with

snacks and fellowship!

May God bless each of you in 2018 with good health, answered

prayers and a continuing desire to reach out to those who do not

know Him. I am looking forward to seeing what God has planned

for us in 2018!

A Farewell Note from our Past Lay Director…

I was given the task to write a farewell note to the community, but feel like I should

say “but I am just over here as your new Data Coordinator. Only one year of my three year

term is complete on the Emmaus Board. Although I will miss some aspects of the Commu-

nity Lay Director role, I am just as excited to uphold my new role and hopefully take the new

database a step further in 2018. I will be assisting Walk Lay Directors and the Board with

information and reports thanks to a group of people supporting me from the community.

Please continue to feed me any changes to your personal data and Emmaus Walk experi-

ence. Looking forward to 2018 and the many future interfaces.

Do you know how Emmaus got started...YES I mean in the beginning?!?!

Please join us as we welcome the founder of Walk to Emmaus to our Jan-

uary Gathering on Friday the 19th!!

Rev. Robert Wood...

Rev. Woods was one of the founders of the Walk to Emmaus. He will

share how his involvement in the original Catholic Cursillo movement in

Peoria, IL started his journey to creating the Walk to Emmaus.

He shares as part of his message the impact this movement was having

on people in in Peoria, IL; “None of us Protestants knew exactly how to

pronounce it, much less understand it. But we knew the effect it was hav-

ing on thousands of lives in the Peoria Area. It was setting a prairie fire

that was strangely warming hearts and inspiring Christians to become

more expressive of their faith.”

As always you are welcome to join us at a monthly Gathering...BUT this

time it’s extra special ...we would love to reignite the Columbus Emmaus
