DESCRIPTION
Chitosan is a linier polysaccharide derived from chitin A mayor component of the shell of the crustacean organisms The second most abundant biopolymer in nature next to cellulose. In the last year chitosan has proved to be valuable product for using in different application such as seed coating, chelating and growth promoters etc Chitosan reported to have various biological functions, for instance, anti microbial activity, growth inhibitor of some pathogensTRANSCRIPT

THE INSTITUTE
Centre for applications of isotopes and radiation technology (PATIR) BATAN, occupies in area of about 15 ha in the Pasar Jumat Atomic Energy Research complex, South Jakarta.
The main task of PATIR is to develop and promote application of isotopes and radiation through R &D in various field, such as : Industry, Sterilization, Polymerization, Agriculture, Food Preservation and environmental studies
With the support of professional manpower, irradiaon facilities and weel-equipped laboratories, PATIR has contributed to the national development through is achievements in R %D using nuclear technique. Some of of the results achieved have been applied in commercial practice in industry and agriculture.

Study on oligo chitosan as additive for food preservation : Tofu, fish ball and noodles. The first step we studiy of antimicrobial activity of chitosan . ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY TESTS OF CHITOSAN.
Antimicrobial activity tests were done by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of chitosan.
Microorganism was used in this experiment are Escherechia coli dan
Salmonella thypi by concentration 108 cfu/ml.
The minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of chitosan to
Escherechia coli dan Salmonella thypi are 1000 to 1200μg/ml.
MIC and MBC of the chitosan depend on the initial concentration of acetic acid are used in this experiment.
