FROM YOUR

PASTOR’S HEARTJuly is here. Our year is either half gone or half left depending on your point of view. The Fourth of July always brings many friends and

family home for the big Alderson celebration. May we have a blessed celebration as we remember those who worked and fought to make our country free. Of course, freedom is never free. And that applies to our faith as well. We are made free from sin at a great price. Jesus, God’s son, paid the price willingly. May we honor His sacrifice by telling others about Him through the words and deeds of our lives.VBS – This year our VBS Director is once again Amanda Bowden. We are thankful for her willing leadership in planning and conducting this year’s Bible school. Please be in prayer for her and her team as they prepare for VBS the week of July 8th.Concerts – Our Summer Sunday Night Concerts on the Lawn are in full swing. Consult the calendar and article later in the newsletter to see our line-up of guest artists. This is a great time for community outreach. Please plan to be here to greet our guests and to enjoy the wonderful music in the majesty of God’s creation.Work Teams – In July the Alderson Ministerial Association will host three work teams. I will personally coordinate the efforts of Montgomery Community Church from Cincinatti during the week of July 8. They will assist us with VBS as well as do some repair work to homes. Pray for their safe travel, safe work, and for God’s blessing upon alll they do to His glory.

The next Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, August 4th at 8am at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Faith of our fathers, living still,In spite of dungeon, fire and sword;O how our hearts beat high with joyWhene’er we hear that glorious Word!

Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death.

–Frederick W. FaberVBS 2012 Is Here!

Our 2012 Vacation Bible School will be Sunday, July 8 through Thursday, July 12 from 6:30–8:00pm. This year we will not serve an evening meal before VBS but will provide a snack during the evening. On Thursday night July 12 we will have a hot dog picnic at 5pm before the closing program which will be at 7pm.

We need workers to help with Bible stories, crafts, recreation, snacks, and other activities. We will have support from youth serving with the work team from Montgomery Community Church in Cincinnati, OH. However, we need youth and adults from our church to lead our VBS. If you can help, please contact Amanda Bowden, our 2012 VBS Director.

Since our VBS will immediately follow the annual Fourth of July festivities, we want to have a float in this year’s parade. We need adult volunteers to help prepare the float, posters, and flyers. We also need adults and children to ride/walk with the float in the parade. Also, we need donations of suckers that we will distribute during the parade.

Fourth of July Fund RaisersOur Christian Education Committee has also planned two fund raisers to be held during the Fourth of July parade. The proceeds will go toward repairs to our church building. We need your support to provide both the necessary supplies and people-power.

We will sell sausage bisquets and ham bisquets during parade line-up the morning of July 4th in the lot beside Joyce Lehmann’s home. We will also sell hot dogs, chips, baked goods, and drinks in Hugh Harris’s yard before and during the parade.

We need: hot dogs, buns, small bags of chips, canned soft drinks, bottled water, baked goods (e.g., cookies and brownies), frozen sausage patties, frozen Pillsbury biscuits, coffee, boneless cooked ham, or monetary gifts to purchase these items.

If you can help with any of these activities or donation needs, please contact Sheila Harris, our Christian Education Chairperson.

AMA Summer Work Teams Are Here! Our Alderson Ministerial Association (AMA) will sponsor three work teams in our community during July. The teams are:

Montgomery Community Church, Cincinnati, OH – This group of American Baptists will be with us from July 8th – 14th. Led by Matt Syrus, they will consist of about twenty-five junior and senior high students and their adult leaders. They are open to help with a variety of lighter projects such as painting and siding. They will also assist our church with VBS during the week they are here. I will serve as their liaison for the week.

North Madison Congregational Church, Madison, CT – This group will be with us from July 22nd – 28th. Led by Jefferson Chin, they will be a team of about thirty junior and senior high students and their adult leaders. They are open to help with a variety of lighter projects.

Oaklyn Baptist, NJ – This group of old friends will be back with us from July 21st – 27th. This team of fifteen adults is led by Fred Daugherty. They have been coming to Alderson for several years and are a seasoned and well-skilled team. We look forward to the return of our friends from New Jersey.

Please be in prayer. Pray for the AMA as they make final plans and do preparatory

work for the projects the teams will undertake. Pray for Theresa Massey who will prepare food for the teams. Pray for the local work coordinators who will facilitate the teams’

efforts during their weeks of service. Pray for the teams to have safe travel and safety as they work in

our community. Pray for God to be glorified in all that is done in His name.

While a tourist vacationed on the Florida coast, his boat capsized. Although he could swim, his fear of alligators kept him clinging to the overturned craft and praying aloud. Spotting an old beachcomber on shore, the tourist shouted, “Are there any gators around here?”

“No,” the man hollered. “They haven’t been around for years!”Relieved, the tourist began swimming leisurely toward the

shore. About halfway there, he asked, “How’d you get rid of the gators?”

“We didn’t do anything,” the beachcomber replied. “The sharks got ‘em.”

Stewardship Focus

Thank you for your regular tithes and special offerings. Below you will find an overview of where we are financially.

General Fund for the Month Ended May 31, 2012:

Beginning Balance$ 1,182.09 + Total Income$ 8,740.00 − Total Expenses$ 10,730.19Ending Balance$ ( 808.10)

General Fund – Thank you for your support of our church’s General Fund through your regular tithe. We had a good offering the first Sunday of June to put us back in the black. However, we need your sustained support to continue our church ministries and to care for our building and grounds.

Building Fund – Lee Forbes has completed

repairs to our church roof. The cost came in under-budget at $4,300. These expenses have been paid in full. We need your support for our Building Fund beyond your regular tithe in order to complete additional repairs to our church facility.

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering – Our goal this year for OGHS is $2,500. This offering is used to support relief needs throughout our world. In past years it has provided relief in Haiti after the earthquake. Last year this offering provided relief after the tsunami in Japan. There are continuing needs due to drought and economic hardship throughout the world. Your giving supports relief ministries of our ABC, USA missionaries and other Christian missionaries around the globe.

Thank you for giving to our Building Fund and our One Great Hour of Sharing offering over and above your regular tithe to our General Fund.
