FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART

Our year is moving rapidly along. Here we are already in May. School will soon be out and summer activities will be starting. Don’t forget to keep church in your plans as we move into the busy season of vacations and outdoor activities.

China Trip - Thank you for your prayers and support for me and Deborah as we travelled to Chengdu, China. I led a successful master’s level seminary course covering the Old Testament from Genesis to Judges for about twenty-five eager students. I also had the privilige to lead a pastor’s seminar covering the books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. You were a part of this missions work through your support of our shared ministry. Also, Deborah and I were able to check off a bucket-list item of walking on the Great Wall of China!

Graduation Time - Along with the end of school comes graduation for some of our students. I know of several of our students that will graduate from college this month: Kari Still from WVU, Joseph Bryan from Texas Tech, and Keith Wiseman and Brennan Wood from WVU. If you have a graduate you would like to recognize in addition to those mentioned above, please let me know so we can add them to our list.

Of course, Deborah and I will be in Lubbock, TX for Joseph’s graduation on May 15. We are thankful for growth in knowledge and wisdom for all of our students. We wish them well as they move on to graduate school and the workplace.

The June Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, June 6 at 8am at Old Greenbrier Baptist Church.

Vacation Bible School 2015 Plans

Our 2015 Vacation Bible School dates have been set for Sunday, July 19 through Thursday, July 23 from 6:30–8:00pm. On Thursday night July 23 we will have a hot dog picnic at 5pm before the closing program which will be at 7pm.

We need workers to help with Bible stories, crafts, recreation, snacks, and other activities.

We want to have a float in this year’s July 4th parade. We need adult volunteers to help prepare the float, posters, and flyers. We also need adults and children to ride/walk with the float in the parade. Also, we need donations of suckers that we will distribute during the parade.

Seven Things You’ll Never AMA Summer Work Teams

UpdateOur Alderson Ministerial Association (AMA) will sponsor five work teams in our community this summer. The first team arrive this month.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Camden, NJ – This group has served with us for the past three years. They will work on community projects and serve at Wellspring the week of May 16.

United Church of Christ, Southbury, CT – This large group of volunteers helped us in construction of Amy’s House a few years ago. They will return again the week of July 5 to take on a number of projects in our community.

Oaklyn Baptist Church, Oaklyn, NJ – This group of friends returns for their eleventh consecutive year of ministry in Alderson. We look forward to continuing to work with them the week of July 18.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Nutley, NJ – This group of young men and women will come from the New York City area the week of July 26 to assist us this summer.

First Presbyterian Church, Honesdale, PA – This group returns for their fourth year of service with us the week of August 2.

Pray for AMA leaders and volunteers who will facilitate the teams’ efforts during their weeks of service.

Pray for the teams to have safe travel and safety as they work in our community.

Pray for God to be glorified in all that is done in His name.

1. Feeling reverence for your Maker.2. Showing kindness to an aged person.3. Destroying a letter or e-mail written in anger.4. Offering an apology that saves a friendship.5. Stopping gossip that could wreck a reputation or

church.6. Taking time to show loved ones consideration.7. Accepting the judgment of God on any question.

??? Bible Quiz ???One Old Testament prophet believed that God hadconsecrated him to be his spokesman even before his birth. He wrote: “Now the word of the Lord came to mesaying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’”

Choose the correct prophet from the list below.

Indiegogo Funding Campaign – So far, we have received over $5,000 in contributions for the start-up of the Academy. In addition, many items of equipment and furniture have been donated. However, we still have needs for more funding to launch the program.

The EACA team has developed a website on Indiegogo, a crowd-sourcing website which will broaden the base of those who know about our program and donate to it. The Indiegogo site launched on the web in early April. Pray that God will draw interest and giving to our Academy through this innovative use of technology. We appreciate all who have given and continue to give to make this ministry of our church possible. Please visit the site and share it with your friends via e-mail and Facebook:

Registration Underway – The EACA team has placed a banner on the front lawn of the church. The team has also prepared a brochure that was sent home with each Alderson Elementary student in April.

Registration Forms are available at the back of the church sanctuary or by contacting the church office. We are accepting registrations for both the Pre-K program and After-school program. For more information or if you know of someone who would like to register a child, please have them call the Academy phone at (304) 992-9312 or the church office. Information about our Academy’s programs and costs is also available on our church website.
