In April and May 2020, OCIC and Results Canada co-hosted an online Advocacy Bootcamp Series to strengthen participants’ skills as an advocate for sustainable development and global poverty issues.
Topics covered included: Advocacy 101 and strategies, Parliamentary Advocacy, Advocacy in a digital age, and Advocacy M&E.

Other Capacity Building MilestonesNew opportunities with the Knowledge for Change (K4C) Toronto HubIn September 2019 OCIC joined the UNESCO Knowledge for Change (K4C) Toronto Hub as a founding member alongside the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), and the Toronto Centre for Learning and Development (CL&D).
The network later shaped our collaborative Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) Virtual Institute offered in June 2020.

The CBPAR Summer Institute held in June 2020 was a collaboration between OCIC, the Center for Critical Development Studies (CCDS) and the Toronto Centre for Learning and Development (CL&D) that incorporates diverse teaching styles and insights from multiple sectors and partners.

From February 2 to 8, 2020, CSOs, communities and individuals across Canada celebrated the 30th International Development Week (IDW) alongside Global Affairs Canada to highlight Canadian’s contributions to sustainable development around the globe. This year, OCIC collaborated with many of our members and the City of Toronto to carry out a wide portfolio of IDW events.

INTER-COUNCIL NETWORK ACTIVITIESThe Inter-Council Network (ICN) is a coalition of the eight Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation. These member-based Councils are committed to global social justice, and represent close to 400 diverse civil society organizations (CSOs) from across Canada.
ICN HighlightsYouth Delegation Although the CSW 64 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 8 diverse youth delegates (including OCIC YPH participant Aditi Sivakumar attended a two-day Youth Dialogue Forum at the Senate of Canada in Ottawa.
Fund for Innovation and Transformation (FIT) In its inaugural year the Fund for Innovation and Transformation (FIT) has developed a two-staged application process: a concept note submission stage and a proposal submission stage. This year FIT has implemented two intakes of Concept Notes and proposals, with a third currently open (until October 15). 9 SMOs have been funded in each Intake.
Intake 1 funding amount is: $2,123,073; Intake 2 funding amount is: $1,998,777. Intakes 4 & 5 are planned for March and October 2021. See the FIT website for details!
Next: Board Election Results
ICN HighlightsSpur ChangeWithin its first year, the Spur Change program has carried out one National Conference in Edmonton, three one-day National Training Workshops on data collection in Toronto, Halifax, and Regina, and provided multiple live and asynchronous sessions and resources for SMOs.
Upcoming SPUR Conferences will be held in March 2021, virtually, and fall 2021 in Quebec, hosted by AQOCI.
The 2020 Youth Champions Program, a 6-month learning exchange and collaboration between Canadian SMOs and Canadian and international youth, was facilitated by Spur Change to support 17 youth from Benin, Tanzania,Haiti, Colombia, Ethiopia, Palestine, Zambia, Nicaragua, Kenya, Cambodia, and Canada.
