Vol. 4, No. 182 Friday, October 30, 2015

As we gear up for what many to consider their favorite holiday — Halloween — students of the Glasgow High School kick-started the community’s “spirits” last night with their Haunted Hayride, and what a turnout it was as approximately 500 people of all ages jumped on the wagon. Cost was $1 per person which now goes to the Children’s Museum of Northeast Montana.

Cast: Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Amy Ryan, Jillian BellDescription: Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination—the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Cast: Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Anders Holm, Andrew Rannells, Adam DeVine, Celia Weston, Nat Wolff, Linda Lavin, Zack PearlmanDescription: Academy Award® winners Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway star together in Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Intern. Oscar®-nominated and award-winning filmmaker Nancy Meyers is directing the comedy from her own screenplay. In The Intern, De Niro stars as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway).

On Fire!Just like Good ol’ Peyton Manning throwing strikes on the football field, Haylee Thompson was on fire at El Cor Del Lanes’ Stars & Strikes league last night, throwing a total of 23 strikes and would crack a 700 series with a score of 701. Her first game was a 265 followed up by a 222 and 214. And if you can believe it, Haylee had never even tapped into a 600 series yet!

As we escape October with no snow, it’s a’coming. A low pressure system will track northeast Tuesday and Wednesday spreading precipitation across northeast Montana from south to north. Temperatures will likely be warm enough to expect rain at the onset of weather Tuesday, transitioning to mixed precipitation as temperatures cool, and changing to the first accumulating snow of the season Tuesday night into Wednesday. The exact track and type of precipitation is still very much in question at this time.

My husband has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I went to the thrift shop to get all his clothes back.

Two nuns, Sister Mary Agnes and Sister Mary Vincent, are traveling through Europe in their car, sightseeing in Transylvania. As they are stopped at a traffic light, out of nowhere, a small vampire jumps onto the hood of the car and hisses at them through the windshield. “Quick, quick!” shouts Sister Mary Agnes, “What should we do?” “Turn the windshield wipers on. That will get rid of the abomination,” says Sister Mary Vincent. Sister Mary Agnes switches on the wipers, which knock the mini-Dracula around. But, he hangs on and continues hissing at the nuns. “What shall I do now?” she shouts. “Try the windshield washer. I filled it with holy water before we left the Vatican,” replies Sister Mary Vincent. Sister Mary Agnes turns on the windshield washer. The vampire screams as the water burns his skin, but he hangs on and continues hissing at the nuns. “Now what?” shouts Sister Mary Agnes. “Show him your cross!” says Sister Mary Vincent. “Now you’re talking, sister,” says Sister Mary Agnes. She then opens the window and shouts, “Listen here you little scumbag, get the hell off our car!”

BMAs Are Private Land With Working Farms and Ranches Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is reminding hunters that although Block Management Areas (BMAs) allow public hunting (with permission), they are still private property, and most are working farms and ranches. Many hunters have been hitting the field since the Oct. 24 opener for general season deer and elk. However, remember that this time of year is also a very busy time for landowners. Cattle and other livestock are being moved from their fall pastures, and are often times brought near the home site for winter feeding and care. Region 6 BMA Coordinator Tim Potter, Jr., who is also a family rancher and BMA participant, knows that landowners need their space when working cattle and performing other ranch operations. “Sportsman must be aware that they are hunting on private land when they are on BMAs,” Potter said. “Many times, a landowner may need to work cattle in areas a hunter might normally hunt. Hunters need to be patient and give the landowners room to work.” Also, hunters need to be sure to check the rules for each individual BMA before venturing out on the hunt. Some BMAs have no shooting zones, archery only areas, walk-in only areas, designated access trails, driving restrictions, policies concerning gates, etc. Many of these suggestions also apply to public land, such as BLM, State, and USFWS properties. In most cases, these agencies lease pastures to individuals who actively farm or ranch on these properties. In all cases, know the property you are hunting and their policies.
