Message From The Lt. Governor
John Brummer, Lt. Governor
Division 44 Kiwanians,
October has been a busy month. I've had the pleasure of attending
many club installations. My apologies to the clubs where I couldn't
make their installations. There were many with conflicting dates and
it was hard to pick just one. Thanks for the invitation to the events
and was fun meeting everyone and to install and retire the officers and
board members. The food was great!!!
As the Kiwanis New Year is a month old everyone is getting ready to
continue our great service to the kids and our community. As we get
ready to Hit a Home Run for Service. To accomplish this year we need
to add new members to our clubs. A good way to add new members is
to add corporate members and ask graduating Service Leadership
Program members to continue their service in the Kiwanis family.
You can get further information on how to do this by visiting the
Kiwanis International website.
I look forward meeting more members of our great division in the
coming weeks and months. I will be making my official visit to your
club. Please contact me so that we can get your club scheduled. At
my official visits I will share with your club the district and division
goals for 2019-2020 and answer any questions you might have. I have
a passion for Kiwanis how bout you?
See you at the November 11 Division Council Meeting (DCM)

Music Mike - Music & Interactive Fun
The chair for the Kiwanis Kids’ Concert this year was Sunday Barrow. The star of the concert was once again
Music Mike. What a wonderful event on September 30th at Lake Clementia. The kids were singing, marching,
rolling down the hill, and more. There would be no trouble getting them to go to bed Sunday night. Music Mike
might event be called Magic Mike. He involved kids of all ages and their parents in an event of pure entertainment.
Frank Hashorva was the official greeter. For most families it was a repeat event. They come every year. Happy
Birthday to a three year old!

Cosumnes River Elementary School
Cosumnes River Elementary School recently held a Family Lunch. It was sponsored by the PTA. Parents could also
be fingerprinted which allows the parents to help, especially on field trips. Our Kiwanis Club was invited to help
serve lunch. Answering the call for service, shown to the right are: Cookie Whalen, Pamela Haines, and Judith
Embree. Not shown is Frank Hashorva. Photo credit Dia Utterback.

Our BSA Troop 633 Court of Honor
Boy Scout Troop 633 is chartered to the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta. In the Boy Scouts of America a court of
honor is a formal troop ceremony usually held quarterly (and intermittently upon conferment of Eagle Scout rank)
where Scouts and their families come together to receive rank advancement, merit badges, and other awards.
The Court of Honor was held on September 9th at the Rancho Murieta Association Building. Special awards were
earned at summer camp, were also presented.

club charter to Sal Arrigo, Jr. Charter President of the Orangevale Fair Oaks, Kiwanis Club.

weeks with many more in the works.”
Beth Roberts, Past Lt. Governor, Kiwanis CNH Division 44
Beth Roberts is the past Lt. Governor of Division 44, and this club was organized in her term of leadership. At the
charter night, Club President Sal Arrigo, Jr. announced that his club was sponsoring a Key Club at a local high

Brenda Frachiseur, Executive Director Big Brothers & Big Sisters
Brenda Frachiseur, Executive Director of BB/BS (Big Brothers & Big Sisters) gave an enlightening presentation. BB/
BS is an International organization, but the local chapters do not receive any funding from the International
organization; funding is accomplished locally. International was started in 1904, and Brenda has been the Executive
Director for the last 6 years.
The local chapter has 6.5 employees. Currently BBBS has 200 children partnered successfully and has a waiting list of
43 children. It takes a village of volunteers to assist these children to face and advance through the varied challenges
and adversities, and to be able to thrive and progress through the various stages of life. BBBS is dedicated to be
"Champions of Children" and "Defenders of Potential".
Mission: To create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
Vision: All children achieve success in life; by partnering with parent/guardians, volunteers and others in the
community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children
(“Littles”), ages 6 through 18.

connections with Health, Literacy and Parenting. Activities covered at the Hub include finding insurance, doctors, dentists,
classes, and events. Health staff at the Hubs are available by appointment to meet with you, provide individual assessment, and
assistance. You are directed to call 1-800-844-4491 to connect with health staff. There are no eligibility requirements or

Installation of New Officers and Directors Gathering a Fun Success
Sac Suburban’s 2019-2020 slate of officers and board members were sworn in at an installation BBQ hosted by Caren
and Bruce Lagomarsino on Sunday, Oct. 6 in their resort-like backyard. A BBQ meal of tri-tip steaks and chicken
breasts was accompanied by delicious pot luck dishes from the two dozen members and guests in attendance. The
Hawaiian and/or golf theme played well with both décor and attire (see photos below).
Lt Gov John Brummer was on hand to enjoy the event and to de-install the retiring team and install the new crew.
President Michael Brownell shared his vision for the up-coming year and generated teamwork and participation with
his enthusiasm. Rudy (the black lab) was on his best behavior as was Mike Gordon, resulting in no spontaneous
swimming. As has become the tradition, everyone was sent home with baggies of leftovers.

Speaker: Lt. Gov. John Brummer
Although John Brummer has been Lt. Governor in our area 3 times, this is the first time he spoke at our club for an
official visit. That is because previously he was the Lt. governor in Division 7 and won the Super distinguished award.
John is retired having worked for the state for 29 years and 3 years for the Bee. His favorite job was working as a paper boy for 10
years. John credits Kiwanis with helping him to get promoted to a management position with the state. Strange but true, his last
job was working as a paper boy for the Carmichael Times for 4 years. All of John's jobs were in the customer service field. This is
natural for John because he loves people and making new friends.
In his spare time John is a big baseball fan, likes to surf the internet and working out at the gym. He has run 8 marathons, 12
half marathons and numerous 10 K runs.
John has been in Kiwanis for 35 years. He belongs to the Kiwanis Clubs of Carmichael, Orangevale-Fair Oaks and East
Sacramento. He has been honored with a Hixon, Dunlap, Bright and Distinguished Service Awards. John was the Division
Secretary, Division Bulletin Editor, helped build 3 Kiwanis Clubs and was a member of the Kiwanis Family House Board of
Directors. John has held many positions in his Kiwanis Clubs but being an SLP adviser is his favorite activity in Kiwanis. John
met his wife Rae Whitby-Brummer through Kiwanis. She was the Governor for our
district in 2013-2014 and he was the "first guy."
John is proud to say "I am a stroke survivor not s victim”. The stroke occurred 3 years ago at a Kiwanis meeting. His goal is to
be a caregiver for a stroke survivor and also to teach a class in kindness. As Lt. Governor John has set some specific goals
including:
• Increase by at least 10 members for the division by the end of the year.
• Support the new Orangevale club.
• Helping each club to have a "Signature Project."
• Support SLP including new clubs.
• Encourage clubs to apply for grants from CNH Foundation or Kiwanis
• Children's Fund.
• Encourage clubs to utilize Kiwanis and community partners.
• Recognize and honor club members.
• Encourage use of the Division website, club websites and social media to promote events.
John's passion for baseball led to his theme to include the concept of teamwork in sports and the members being the MVPs. John
can be reached by phone at 916.508.3627 or email at [email protected]. We are honored to have such of a tremendous service
oriented person step up again to lead our division.
