I’m usually a glass half-full type of gal, but I thinkall of this rain has gotten the best of me, andnow my glass is overflowing. As most of you areaware, the Bramble10 Bash & Fall Festival thatwas scheduled for September 23rd and 24thwas canceled; or postponed, due to weather andwet grounds at the festival area. From this, Iwas reminded of the quote “The best laid plansof mice and men often go awry” fromSteinbeck’s Of Mice and Men or the poem To a

Mouse by Robert Burns.

Over the course of the week before the originaldate, the entire site map was changed, becauseheavy rains had wreaked havoc on the towncenter plaza field. In an effort to keepeverything together, we shifted the festivitiescloser to the Sport&Health side of the towncenter as that seemed to be the better of thetwo fields. On Wednesday afternoon, withforecasts of nearly 100% rain for Friday, wecanceled Friday’s events all together and hopedfor the best on Saturday. Then after another dayand a half of rain, with both areas sopping wet, standing water everywhere and an 80% chanceof more rain and storms, we decided toreschedule the celebration to a future date in aneffort to deliver a fun, safe and successful eventfor all.

Although Saturday ended up being one of thesunniest days we’ve had in weeks, the festivalarea was still a swamp, so I’m glad that we madethe call to postpone. Being the “glass half-full”type, even as I sit here typing away, and it’spouring buckets outside again, I’m looking at itas chance for the sun to come out and dry it all

up and for a whole month to make this eventeven better. So in the meantime, please join usat these upcoming events:

• Briar Woods Homecoming Celebrationand Parade at the Town Center Plaza/Legacy Park on October 15th from 4pm -6pm; game starts at 7:00pm

• Neighborhood Camp Out on October 15that Legacy Park; $15 family. Campsite setup starts at 3:00 pm. To sign up go to -http://www.signupgenius.com/go/neighborhood23

• Town Center Trick or Treat on October29th, from 11am – 1pm at theBrambleton Town Center

• Teen Halloween Party on October 29th,from 6:00 pm – 10:00pm. Registrationrequired (we need at least 15 teens tomake it happen). To sign up go to - http://www.signupgenius.com/go/teen18

We are entering the season where we will beginto store our summer wears and look toward thecoming cool temperatures and changing leaves. To help you prepare for the coming season, wewould like to give you some helpful tips as youprepare for the changing season.

• Exterior Lights are stressed by coolertemperatures. Check all of the exterior lightfixtures for failed bulbs.

• Seasonal plantings may need to be trimmedback or removed in order to keep the up keptappearance that deters burglars.

• As we move things to the shed ensure you aresecuring the door with a dependable lock. (Don’tforget the quick shot of WD40 into the lock toprevent freezing.)

• If storing items in the garage, ensure they aresecure and will not fall. Loose items can fallagainst garage door tracks and prevent themfrom closing correctly.

With the cooler weather many homeowners willhave windows open enjoying the cool nightbreezes. Be sure to close and lock thosewindows when you are not at home. Even a shorttrip within the neighborhood could be theopportunity a burglar is looking for.

Do a quick check and make sure your addressnumbers are still visible. Summer growth mayhave covered them and now is a good time totrim plantings back so those numbers are visibleto emergency responders.

With Halloweencomes candy.Andunfortunately, too much candycan lead totooth decay.

Most candy isfilled with sugar, and sugar is the monster behindtooth decay and cavities. The sugar from candycan remain on teeth long after its been eaten. When left, it fuels plaque that turns the sugarinto acid. This acid attacks tooth enamel andcauses tooth decay.

“Having your child immediately brush his or herteeth to remove the residue sugar that is left ontheir teeth after eating candy is one of the bestways to help prevent tooth decay,” says Dr.

Haress Rahim, director of Brambleton’s BlooDental.

Dr. Rahim also recommends purchasingHalloween candy that is low in sugar or sugarfree.
