A Note from Your Deacons
We hope you have walked through the dining room and seen the children’s
coats we have gotten so far to support the Salvation Army. That’s only a
SMALL amount of what has been collected or bought with many more still
to come ….THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY! Our drive ends October 15
with a small celebration being planned in church on October 13. Please
know how appreciative your Deacons are for your participation allowing us
to bring support to our community.
We continue to find opportunities to assist our members and our
community in our brain storming meetings. Deacon meetings are jovial and
productive, led by a thoughtful moderator who shall go unnamed, right Tim
Gano? Please feel free to let any deacon know if you have ideas for how we
can better care for our church and our community.

Sharing our Faith
Recently in my household we have been watching the new HGTV show
A Very Brady Renovation. For this show, HGTV has purchased the house in
California that was used as the outside of the Brady’s house in the original
Brady Bunch series. The HGTV stars are working alongside the grown up
“Brady kids” to renovate the inside of the house to be a replica of the TV
home, which had previously only existed on a sounds stage. It has been
interesting to watch them try to find furniture, wallpaper, carpet, countertops,
and even appliances to match the ones that had been used on the show.
What is really interesting about this
show being a hit with my children is that neither
of them had ever watched a single episode of
the Brady Bunch but still they were fascinated
by this renovation. I decided that we needed to
remedy that and quickly discovered that the
Brady Bunch shows are actually available to
stream on Amazon Prime. So, just this last week my girls and I have started
the task of “binge-watching” the Brady Bunch series. It has been so much fun
to expose them to a show I remember watching as a child (of course they were
reruns for me too), and to see how they react to the 70s décor and clothing
choices.
I absolutely love having the chance to pass things that I enjoyed in my
childhood down to my children. Of course, my children have not found all of
those things as interesting as I did, but, when they really enjoy something I
enjoyed it brings me so much joy as it also fills me with nostalgia.
This got me thinking about how we go about passing on our faith. Just
as I cannot force my children to appreciate pieces of culture from my
childhood, we can never force someone to become a follower of Jesus. In fact,
when we try to force our faith on someone else, it most often has the reverse
effect and makes them uninterested at all. All we can do is try to share with
others the joy, peace, love, and purpose that a relationship with Jesus has
brought into our lives and hope that they too will want to have that experience.
Perhaps one of the best ways to think about this comes from the fifth
chapter of Galatians, where the Apostle Paul talks about the Fruit of the Spirit.
Remember he says that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” When we let
our lives bear this kind of fruit, we can trust that God will use it to impact the
lives of those who encounter us. Join me this month in praying that God would
fill us anew with the fruit of the Spirit and that others will see that fruit and
know that they too are loved and called to be part of God’s great story of
redemption for the world.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Todd
